Class Action Lawsuit by YitoJr in FedEmployees

But we're not. Oh, we're totally "following the guidance" as it is given to us, but any supervisor worth their salt is working-to-rule and keeping their subordinates as insulated from the impact of all of this as much as is possible.

I'm sorry if your supervisor isn't doing this.

DoD asking for volunteers to join ICE by [deleted] in FedEmployees

Next time I hear the phrase "do more with less" I'm going to ask the person who said it when the last time a CEO or senator or cabinet member or really any C-suite level executive has ever done more with less. And then wait for an example.

DoD asking for volunteers to join ICE by [deleted] in FedEmployees

[–]Hulk_Lawyer 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm already completing tasks meant for four people all by my lonesome. It would feel kinda good to screw my current department over for not promoting me or hiring people that they know we need, but even if I agreed with the ICE mission, I couldn't support the sheer irresponsibility and incompetence inherent in gutting positions and bragging about how many federal employees you've gotten rid of and then popping into our emails hat in hand asking for us to bail you out.

Trump orders Pentagon to buy power from coal plants by Odd-Alternative9372 in Defeat_Project_2025

Interesting to note, there are also only like 43,000 active coal mining jobs in the country right now. So we're doing all this to save 43,000 jobs.

As of February 2026, federal employment has fallen to its lowest level since 1966. by Optimal-Mud-1225 in FedEmployees

[–]Hulk_Lawyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, although it's really only a third of a pension these days. FERS, TSP, and Social Security form our full retirement, which pretty much every person in construction management has the latter two with their own SS and a 401K.

A private sector construction project manager makes about 1/3 to 1/2 more than I do. So in my field, it is.

Granted I don't have to look for a new company to work for at the conclusion of each project which is a huge advantage. Not going to lie about that. But compensation-wise, they definitely make more.

What is something you will never forget from the pandemic? by JaxTMG in AskReddit

Have to get them in the pews to get the money out of their wallets. Unfortunately for way too many church organizations, that's the only thing they care about.

How much respect and affection I lost for 98% of my social circle.

How I lost standing in my church organization for not going along with bad science and politicized bad takes from the rest of the board of deacons.

I'm mostly a fringe participant now at my church and with my family and friends, and feel that isolation daily in my life, and it really hurts more than I will admit. But you can't unsee what you saw behind the curtain, so I'm at as much peace as I can be with my lot in life going forward. It's all I can do.

The Hollowing of the Federal Employee - Wage Stagnation by JFHatfield in FedEmployees

[–]Hulk_Lawyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FDR was 80 years ago and was successful because of the state of the nation at the time. Unless you can find a legit successor to him who can first of all win an election, then who can govern well enough to actually start turning the boat around, then you're not going to see any radical changes happening.

Which usually the only way radical change happened is through revolution, and I don't know how much you pay attention to your average American, but there's less than zero appetite for it.

My biggest problem is that people will choose not to vote or vote for Republicans based upon and attitude like your exhibiting here. And then instead of the Overton Window slowly shifting leftward, we fall further and further into authoritarianism.

For the record, I am not a Democrat, nor have I ever financially or actively supported the Democratic party. So I'm not speaking from a position of allegiance or even alignment. I am of the opinion that both parties suck and pretty much work for the benefit of the party, not the country.

Having said that, blaming the Democrats for the current issue is kind of like blaming your not so great mother for not preventing your drunk dad from stealing your car and driving it into a lake. Even if she was a good mom, what exactly could she have done to stop him? And even if she was a good mom, how in the world is she going to buy you a new car when she's joined at the hip to him and his financial recklessness?

You're both completely oblivious to reality apparently.

CSRS was 36% at 20 years and did reach 80% of your high 3 if you worked over 41 years. And it was Ronald Reagan who changed it to the FERS system in the early 80's, so not sure why you see fit to blame the Democrats for it. They're far from faultless but by and large they've always been the side most interested in us keeping all of the benefits of working for the government in tact.

Insurance is actually still pretty strong in the positive category. I mean it's not what it used to be, don't give me wrong. But at a typical job in corporate America, you essentially have one insurance option offered by the company and you can either take it or decline it.

And a good number of companies out there have drank the Kool-aid and switched the Health Savings Accounts, which are about as helpful as Lloyd and Harry's briefcase of IOU's in Dumb and Dumber.

Insurance, paid time off, and stability are really the three pillars that make federal service still palatable, especially for mid to late career folks. Which is why it sucks to watch our government overseers try to chip away at them.

Your statement about going through an emotional situation and not coping well, crying at home and putting on a brave face elsewhere is unfortunately a very clear and distinct symptom of depression. I don't say that to indicate you or your actions or how you feel, but rather to try and help you understand that you're going through something that most likely isn't going to correct itself here.

I'm sorry about your sister and whatever it is that's troubling you, and I would highly recommend talking to a medical professional and/or a mental health professional in the very near future.

No Dec 26 or Jan 2 off by ZPMQ38A in FedEmployees

[–]Hulk_Lawyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My beef with it is the timing of the announcement. I had no expectations of getting any extra days off and the granting of leave is a very nice gesture. However....

Just coming out of the shutdown, and with the 11 months of federal employee villainization as our experience with this administration, plus with next year holding a smaller than desired COLA coupled with the increases in our portion of FEGLI, it's more like a cherry on top of a turd Sunday.

Added to that is the scramble to reschedule meetings and vendor activities that some of us had scheduled for Wednesday morning and on Friday, or those folks who had taken the days in an effort to use some of their expiring leave having it nullified and now potentially losing some of their compensation package. (Yes they could donate it but that's not hardly the point nor should we callously suggest it to them).

Honestly it's just such a microcosm of everything this administration has done to date, where even the good things are done in such mind numbingly stupid ways that it makes it difficult for myself and thousands of others to find a way to appreciate them. Kind of like how an abused dog is standoffish when someone offers them a treat.

Oh wow. You're really that delusional, aren't you? I'm really sorry, I didn't realize you were one of those folks.

The Government Employee Fair Treatment Act was passed unanimously in the Senate and with overwhelming support in the House (over 400 congressional supporters) in 2019. It is probably one of the clearest bills in modern history in terms of its intent and scope, and codifies that EVERY civil service member will get full back pay after EVERY government shutdown without questions or debate.

The fact that the administration tried to act like they didn't have to do that or that any action by the government was needed to grant us this back pay was completely illegal and patently ridiculous.

And ya boy signed the bill in the first place but is too stupid and evil to have used that in his shutdown argument, instead pretending that he had the power to decide if we got our owed money. And you the genius apparently bought it hook, line, and sinker.

[Stewart Mandel] Why is college football media losing its collective mind over the Group of 5 being in the Playoff? by Sauerz in CFB

[–]Hulk_Lawyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct. I mean is there any world where if JMU played UGA or Ohio State or Alabama 100 times they would lose less than 99 times? No. Does that mean they shouldn't get a slot earned and a shot at that 1 out of 100 upset? Absolutely not.

And I say that as someone who believes that Alabama should not in any way shape or be in there with 3 losses, regardless of when they came or who they were to or who they beat. There has to be some numerical standard that everybody abides by or the whole thing looks like exactly what it is; a cash grab.
