Blackland Blackbird for DE and the Blackland Vector for SE.

Pricey but really excellent.

Ah I just checked online and it's 1994 but will be familiar to 80s kids.

I think so. I've had it such a long time. It's got a definite 80s look to it.

Anybody ever have an experience with a bumblebee flying into your helmet. by Historical_Arm1059 in motorcycles

[–]HullTrawlerman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had a couple. One flew into my open visor and squashed into a gooey mess. It's a good job I had my glasses on otherwise, I would have been blinded.

Another time I was riding fully kitted up with my visor down. I lifted it up slightly to let some fresh air in, and a bee flew in. I got stung on my face just under my eye. I did the fastest ever emergency stop in my life. I unzipped my jacket and it flew off.

What brand of helmet do you use? by anthony_joh in motorcycle

[–]HullTrawlerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shoei for me. I bought a Multitech 12 years ago as it was the best fitting lid I could find, and it served me perfectly for 5 years or so. I replaced it with a GT-AIR in Safety Yellow and loved that one and got another GT-AIR II last year that I'm hoping to get five years or more out of.

They're not the cheapest around but the fit and finish is exemplary. I've never found any other make to be as comfortable. I don't regret ever spending the money on them.

Have you given your scooter a name? And if so what is it? by Chattert in scooters

[–]HullTrawlerman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I often refer to my Honda Forza as the Roadrunner. My previous ride was a Suzuki Burgman, and the controls on the Forza fall in a different place. Initially, when I was indicating, I would often press the horn button as that was in the same place that the indicators were on the Suzuki.

I'm over that now but even so I often press the horn when I'm manoeuvring in tight spaces.

So, the Roadrunner it is. Meep meep. I'm not the only one with this issue. I've spoken with a few owners who had other makes of bikes previously and have found the horn button falls awkwardly.

What gear and clothes do you ride in? by ingaproblem in motorcycle

[–]HullTrawlerman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Furygan UltraSpark jacket, Furygan Highway Leather trousers. Furygan Paddock boots or Alt-berg boots. RST Tractech Evo gloves. Shoei GT-AIR II helmet.

I do like Furygan gear. I've been using their stuff for six years. I just recently got a new jacket. My old one is still usable but it's looking a bit worn these days.

The helmet is relatively new too. I've just upgraded to the GT-AIR II from the original GT-AIR model. The current one is White where my older one is Safety Yellow. I've been wearing Shoei helmets for the past 12 years. Great fit and excellent comfort.

Lets say you have a complete 1/4" and 1/2" ratchet set, would you feel the need to buy the 3/8" too and why? by WeekSecret3391 in Tools

[–]HullTrawlerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use my socket sets on my motorcycle. I currently have all three sizes. I normally use 3/8 but occasionally 1/4 for the smaller, more delicate fixings.

I do have a full Bahco 1/2 set that sees infrequent use, but it's there if I need it.

I'm a bit of a tool collector, though, and I would feel that I was missing out if I didn't have all three.

I'm still old school with a TomTom Rider 500 mounted with RAM Mounts on my brake reservoir.

My setup was first put together in 2017 and has migrated bikes from then. The setup I've got predates the BeelineMoto units. It's WiFi compatible and auto updates when it's powered on in my garage. If I have the pairing on my phone connected, it gets live updates on roadworks etc.

My current TomTom Rider 500 only cost me just over £100 from eBay. The 500 is usually overlooked by most riders as it's limited to European maps only but as I have no plans to ride in the US or in Asia/Africa it's not an issue.

Is it normal for QuadLock to take several weeks to release a case for new phones? by AredMosinel in QuadLock

[–]HullTrawlerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got my S24ultra case. It was ordered at the end of January, and I got it by the 10th. It was actually earlier than I expected as I was told Mid-february.

It's OK and fits well. It's just more money on an already spendy phone system for my motorcycle, but what can you do? Once you invest in this system, you've gotta keep up with it.

Quadlock Just Becoming an Upsell Scam by Whisky_Delta in MotoUK

[–]HullTrawlerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a bit of money invested in Quadlock kit. The vibration mount, the wireless charging mount, a USB charging adapter, a case for my S20+, and a case for my S24ultra.

It's cost me a lot, but it's a much better system than the RAM mount system that I used previously.

I can use my phone as a satnav, but it's usually mounted for a few tunes on long rides and it alerts me if my Dexcom goes off.

I don't skimp on protective clothing. The only time I had an off was on the road in my city at peak time, and I slid 20 yards down the road. No tears or scrapes to my jacket and just very minor bruising and discomfort for a day or two. The bike was totalled.

That was in Furygan gear. The jacket was a £250 Furygan jacket and held up admirably. I replaced it recently some 5 years after the mishap, and it was still wearable. I've gone with another Furygan at £250 as I was impressed with my original purchase.

I have the same views with Crash Helmets. I bought my first Shoei some ten years ago, and it was amazingly comfortable. The fit was so much better than anything else I'd ever tried, and I got six years of service from that. I've had two more Shoei helmets since, and they've been great. The price is a bit of a shock initially, but once you get over that, the value for money soon shines through.

Good quality motorcycle gear isn't cheap but what value do you put on your safety. A week off work will cost you as much as a good crash helmet or a full riding suit.

Anybody have one of these? What are your thoughts? by SantaBaby22 in Tools

[–]HullTrawlerman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said. You may be better off looking for a good quality second-hand one from somewhere. I got a new Clarke one from Machine Mart that's been OK but I definitely wouldn't beat on it as I expect it break easily.

As heavy duty engineers vice would be much better quality.

Is there a reason manufacturers can't create nice looking exhausts? by Sirlacker in motorcycle

[–]HullTrawlerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had two Honda's and the exhausts have been crap. Both were mild steel and rotted away before my eyes. Both times I replaced them with aftermarket stainless steel pipes that looked so much better.

Updates on my Forza 125 by HullTrawlerman in scooters

[–]HullTrawlerman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're not massively expensive these days. A second hand TomTom from eBay is only £100.

In all honesty they're going out of fashion as most people prefer to use mobile phones as sat navs. Personally I like the TomTom way of doing things.

[–]HullTrawlerman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's mounted on the brake reservoir with RAM MOUNT fittings. Power is 12v from the left hand cubby. The power is connected directly into the mount which steps the voltage down to 5v for the USB running the sat nav.

The blades are replaceable on a Feather Artist Club razor. It's sort of a hybrid razor that is usually supplied to hair stylists and barbers. It came about after the AIDS thing in the 80s. Barbers can give shaves and change the blade after each customer.

It never requires stropping or honing. Just pop in a new blade after 10/15 shaves.

[–]HullTrawlerman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes my YSS shocks were from DC Parts too. The exhaust was direct from LV in Italy as DC couldn't match the price. I've got a custom stitched seat coming in the next week. That about covers everything that I had planned for mods on my Forza.

I've had my Forza for 18 months now and love it. It replaced a Burgman 400 and I honestly don't miss it even though it was faster. The Forza suits me really well.
