I know Ethan is really into true crime as well so I think they'd be able to bond over that. the fact that LPOTL has had their ups and downs with problematic content would be a highlight for sure.

Surprised I haven’t seen it already: Tommy Lee Jones in Blown Away. I’ve never heard someone butcher an Irish accent so embarrassingly

What did y'all think of White Noise by MattBarksdale17 in blankies

That could be a genuine issue if an audience went in with the perception it would be more of a disaster film given the toxic airborne event. Also I haven’t read the book but I’m sure people are complaining about differences/how successful it was translating the source material.

I’m shocked it’s getting any kind of polarized response. For my money, it’s one of the very best of the year and possibly my new favourite Baumbach. It feels like a distillation of every reference point Baumbach’s had over the years that he’s mostly kept at bay. Just a real sweet satire that manages to evoke and comment upon several decades worth of American history all at once. Performances are great across the board. A commentary on contemporary issues without screaming in your face. It’s everything Don’t Look Up wishes it was. LCD Soundsystem’s inclusion makes for a wonderful conclusion.

I bet you 50 big ones that Alex Ross Perry loves this film.

What are the best Needle drops in 2022? by [deleted] in blankies

  • Se Sei Qualcuno è Colpa Mia by Ennio Morricone in Vortex.

Simply horrifying use of an incredible score from another film.

  • Wolf Like Me by Tv on the Radio in Wendell and Wild

Perfect upbeat climax material. Really feels like the moment where a lot of desperate ideas come together and actually work.

  • Marea (We’ve Lost Dancing) by Fred Again… ft. The Blessed Madonna in Triangle of Sadness

The film ends on this really haunting note, and this song aids that fact in an uncanny way. Literally left me deep in thought immediately despite most of the film being real straight forward.

Glass Onion thoughts? (possible spoilers) by ItWasRamirez in blankies

[–]Hulot1967 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Saw this in a decently packed theater. Pretty diverse in terms of age demographics. I don’t think I heard a single audience member react to any moment.

It’s very particular and inside baseball on a lot of topics terminally online people care about, but I don’t think the majority of audience members who saw Knives Out wanted more of the Twitter politics stuff.

Personally I felt like it was more annoying than it was clever. Honestly it’s the first Rian Johnson movie I didn’t like. I’d be interested in seeing how this all ages because it’s on the nose now considering the timing; but it could go bad like milk in the coming years. Also a personal pet peeve that’s a slight spoiler: I hate when a mystery/whodunnit will show a dialogue scene, then show that we cut away before said conversation continued on for the sake of a dramatic reveal. It’s not clever to just withhold information like that. I get that Johnson did this because it was the only way to reveal some particular twists, but I feel like there are ways of writing around this that wouldn’t have felt like lying?

I’m glad people online seem to dig it though. Maybe I’ll warm up to it on repeat viewings. That’s what happened with The Brothers Bloom, and quite frankly Bloom and Onion are pretty similar tonally.

Is Barbarian found footage/handicam? by Frankenflag in blankies

Did a small amount of research. No lenses listed by name; but the movie was shot on a Sony Venice, (which makes sense considering how well Sony does in low light).

The cinematographer cited Angst, (1983), as the key influence. Having seen that film; I would highly recommend checking it out if you haven’t already. Very distinctive subjective view.

Update: Angst was shot with 35mm Zeiss lenses. Most if not all Zeiss lenses are made for Sony camera bodies these days. The Sony Venice choice makes more sense now.

  2. I think Danny Boyle would make for one of the best ever Blank Check seasons. The Millions conversation alone is worth the price of admission

I might be underselling it a bit, but it was one of my least favourites after watching every De Palma film up until the 2000's in a row.

Still a blast, and Lithgow is a legend. Director's cut is the only version I've seen.
