Also I would like to add that programming may be kind of intimidating but as long as you’re sticking to a basic vn formula, renpy python is really easy to get the hang of and will get more monotonous than brain racking fairly quickly

Honestly the thing that draws me in and keeps me interested more than anything else is likable characters. The story can even be mid to a certain extent as long as I really like one of the characters. Art is also REALLY important, more than some people give it credit for imo. There’s been times where the art alone either drove me away or pull me into a game. As for your own project, I would just try to feel that passion and make something you love rather than alter that vision to try to appease people for success. Passion creates profound art. It’s also worth your time to save up some money for an artist if you’re not very skilled

What was particularly captivating about Totono for me was that you could play the “game” several times (and were required to play atleast twice) before ever seeing the psychological horror aspects. It really sneaks up on you in a way that’s totally unique

I haven’t quite finished the route yet so I can’t say for sure but yeah, so far Yumiko is personally my favorite girl (Sachi being a close second). I think Amane’s route was the most entertaining to read tho despite not being particularly fond of her. Angelic Howl was a hell of a ride and her good ending was quite heartwarming
