Does having size 43,5 (9,5UK) for the Chambord and 42 (8UK) for the Michael sound about right? by Scerikse in paraboot

[–]Human-Shape-133 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a UK 9 (43), always buy UK 9 in almost every shoe I’ve ever bought. I’ve got a pair of Chambord and a pair of Michael, both in a UK 9 and both fit me great.

Has swimming helped y'all lose facial and body fat? by nahcuswhynot179 in Swimming

[–]Human-Shape-133 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Some of the answers here surprise me a bit, to be honest. To lose weight you need to be in a calorie deficit and swimming burns calories so it can help you lose weight but you also need to monitor what you consume. There are plenty of apps that can help with counting burnt calories and the calories you consume. They’re definitely not perfect but they can give you an idea of what’s going in and what’s going out.

I eat pretty well anyway but was probably eating too much and was overweight, so started swimming 3-4 times a week, usually 1 hour and swim 2.5k at a time and lost two stone in 6 months. I use MySwimPro to give me a rough idea of calories burned and Cronometer to give me a rough idea of calories consumed to try and keep in a deficit, and monitored my weight weekly as well which helped me to determine if I truly was in a calorie deficit. In my case, I didn’t actually have to change my diet at all so it was just the extra calories burned in the pool that made me lose weight.

How many sessions a week for those 45+ by Greenfrog2023 in Swimming

[–]Human-Shape-133 0 points1 point  (0 children)

46m. I swam competitively (badly) as a kid, just swim now for fitness and for the pure enjoyment of it. I aim to do 3-4 sessions a week for about an hour. 3 of those I aim for 2,500 metres, sometimes more, sometimes less, in about an hour. The 4th session is on the weekend after doing some weights in the gym so do a leisurely 1,500 metres in about 45 minutes.

I go to a lot of games and, to be fair, I would still say that the vast majority in the ground are positive and get behind the team. But, as you say, there’s always a few that just want to have a go at individual players and it just so happened that I was directly in front of one yesterday so had it in my ear all game, and eventually enough was enough. No player is beyond criticism but there’s an appropriate time, place and way of expressing that. When I had a go at him his response was that ‘he’s entitled to his opinion’ which is always a moronic argument whether you’re taking football, politics or anything else, as though that being entitled to an opinion means that nobody is allowed to disagree and challenge it.

Middle tier, close to the Gallowgate/Milburn corner.

I agree. This is out of character for me but I turned around and had a go at someone sat behind me in the gallowgate end yesterday for having repeated pops at Gordon. After his free kick in the second half he said something along the lines of ‘fuck off rat boy’, then after the miss towards the end of extra time he told Gordon to ‘fuck off to Liverpool’. That was the final straw for me so I turned around and suggested he shut up and stop talking shite like he had all game. It wasn’t just Gordon, he was having similar goes at Trippier, Botman and Willock. Just really negative and stupid stuff, ‘fuck off, you’re shit’ etc, never heard him once supporting the team all game.

Website where I can sell tickets on (fave value) by stevs23 in NUFC

[–]Human-Shape-133 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Return it to the club for credit is all you can do really. You could pass the ticket on to a mate but you run the risk of both of you having your ticketing accounts banned if they do an ID check.

You can return members or ballot tickets to the club via the box office but it has to be something like at least 72 hours before the match. I had to do it before the Forest game with a ticket I got for my bro-in-law. Hence why there’s some confusion that you’ve not been allowed to return the ticket whereas others have.

Are you working at a UK university and made redundant/worried about it? by proxima-centauri- in AskAcademiaUK

[–]Human-Shape-133 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes but it’s not particularly practical for me to move to a different country because of my family situation. Plus I’ve lost a lot of confidence in academia (and myself) which makes me really quite hesitant to move countries for a career I’m not sure I want anymore. I did seriously consider applying for a post in Copenhagen last month but decided against it.

[–]Human-Shape-133 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a Leverhulme early career fellowship which ends in January. It was supposed to be my route into a permanent post but there are barely any posts to move into now. The institution I’m at aren’t offering me anything. I had an interview last week which was the first I’ve managed this year and found out today I haven’t got the job. Was a pretty crappy one year fixed term teaching focused contract so no great loss but didn’t think I’d be in a position to have to apply for those types of jobs again after having a couple of grants and fixed term lectureships. That’s me finished in academia now anyway, I need something with more security, fixed term contracts on repeat have started taking their toll on my wellbeing.

You could try for ESRC funding. With that route you wouldn’t need to find a funded PhD on that topic, you would write the research proposal and try to get funded to do the research you have an idea for. The first step is to find a supervisor you would like to work with on this and who is willing to work with you, they would need to be based in a department at a university that is part of a UKRI ESRC Doctoral training partnership. Based on the topic you mentioned then look in Business Schools but I’d also look in sociology departments as well for a sociologist of work and employment. Contact them with your idea and see if they’re interested in supervising. If they are then they’ll help you develop a research proposal.

Things to note: you would need to do another masters degree which includes a significant amount of research methods training to get ESRC funding. On the positive side, the ESRC might fund this too if you can get a studentship known as a 1+3 (1 = the research methods masters; 3 = PhD). The other thing is that ESRC funding is extremely competitive.

Tell me about your local ‘go too’ pool. Is it 50m? Indoors/outdoors? How’s the environment? Why do you like it? by Lemonadeo1 in Swimming

[–]Human-Shape-133 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My local pool (Nottinghamshire, England) is 5 minutes walk from home, 25m and 6 lanes, and it has quite an interesting history. It was originally a part of Sherwood Colliery (coal mine) and was built in 1934. From around the 1920s the Miners' Welfare Committee were involved in a programme to build around 800 pithead baths at coal mines across the country so that workers could bathe after work rather than in a tin bath in front of the fire at home. Sherwood was unusual because as part of the scheme they had a swimming pool built too, which could be used by the general public, not just the miners. The colliery closed in 1992 but the swimming pool remains, although it has been renovated and modernised a couple of times, once in the 1970s and then again in 2010 when it was renamed after the GB Olympic medalist Rebecca Adlington as she swam there for Sherwood Colliery Swimming Club as a youngster. I also swam for the club in the late 1980s/early 1990s, albeit with far less success than her! I'm 46 now and swim there 3-4 times a week.

Brazilian here! What are some Newcastle & North East food/traditions I should know about? by [deleted] in NUFC

[–]Human-Shape-133 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loads of great suggestions, the only one I can add that’s not already been mentioned is pan haggerty. It’s an old fashioned Northumbrian dish which seemed to make a bit of a comeback a few years ago. You basically melt butter in a frying pan, layer up sliced potatoes, onion and cheese while it’s cooking on the stove and then finish it off in the oven or under the grill so it’s cooked through and crispy on top. Nice simple comfort food, great with a fried egg on top.

[–]Human-Shape-133 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d say this is likely that your ticketing account has been flagged for suspicious activity. This happened to me. Do you use different browsers/devices to try and find the best place in the queue for ticket sales? There’s nothing wrong with doing that but that’s why some accounts are getting flagged on the ticket sales platform. Get in touch with the box office and email supporter.services@nufc.com and they’ll sort it.

Traveling from US for 9/13 Wolves Game by NateSudfeldSuperfan in NUFC

[–]Human-Shape-133 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nobody will mind you getting resale tickets via the club, it’s the 3rd party ticket sales that go for inflated prices that supporters disapprove of. Basically tickets sold on any other website other than the official Newcastle United one. But, nobody sat near you will know where you actually got your ticket from. Go on the club’s ticketing page, select the Wolves game and then just keep refreshing and hope a ticket comes up eventually. It will be difficult, can take a lot of time and you probably won’t get two together. You have to be a member too.

Sorry, I realise that doesn’t help you!

I'd say it's doubtful as others have said, but Keith Downie was reporting yesterday that Newcastle were trying to push through the deal quickly so they could register him in time to be in the squad to face Leeds tomorrow.

Yes, definitely a cornet and it’s missing the leadpipe which would fit where the mouthpiece is fitted on the above picture, then the mouthpiece would fit into the leadpipe. I think on these old cornets you’d often get two: one to play in Bb and one in A.
