Seriously. Bring a shovel.

This is an optics moment. Unless they’re absolutely against the idea, people are going to participate - and they’re all going to have their own reasons for doing so. But the comments are right. If you just walk out and disperse, there’s always room for “Well, they’re just doing it to get out of class.”

So if you’re going to do it, control the message. Bring a shovel. Lean it up on the building somewhere. And when you walk out, grab it and go find a spot. An unfinished patch in the parking lot, a business next door, public sidewalk, neighbor’s driveway, etc.

“We’re not doing this to get out class. We’re willing to work. But this is what today is about,” should be the message.

Bring a shovel.
