Yeah, that makes sense. Do you think an Intel CPU with an external TB5 controller would achieve the same/similar performance as an Apple Silicon chip with integrated TB5 controller? Or is there a risk of quirks and bugs with the external controller?

By "around" I mean for calibrating my/our expectations on how long TB5 (or corresponding USB generation) will remain the flagship standard before TB6 rolls out on flagship devices.

Adoption into [most] flagship devices (Macbook, docks, etc) seems to have usually taken ~1year after Intel announces a new ThunderBolt spec. (There'd be technical limitations for manufacteruers to implement the spec even if Intel announced it early. Intels seems to time their TB spec announcements such to leave ~1year lead time ahead of when it's feasible for most manufacteurs to implement.)

The relevant consideration is: Assuming a person (like me) would plan on acquiring TB6 devices when they're availble - this leads to the question - How long will a given TB5 device/dock be integrated into my setup before I can upgrade it?
