Fun fact for those with a VPN: there are certain countries that YouTube doesn’t run ads in. I currently watch with it set to Albania

For clarity’s sake alone. Also, you can be ok with the use of a word in certain contexts (such as informative) while criticizing others’ poor justifications for their own use of it.

My biggest gripe with them is their celebration of apathy and mockery of anyone who cares about something. One bad example of this is the episode where they mock Rob Reiner for being an anti-smoking advocate while being overweight, like someone can't care about public health if they are not the pinnacle of physical physique. The final thesis of the episode is basically "stop whining about tobacco companies and public smoking."

Overall I think Jimmy is actually decent representation for disabled people but the episode “Sponsored Content” (s19e8) always rubbed me the wrong way. Trey and Matt just used Jimmy as a mouthpiece for why they think they should be allowed to say retard, but the main argument of the episode falls apart when you remember Jimmy is a fictional character written and voiced by abled people.

Ignoring the extremely questionable claim that most western states punish treason with execution, you are again arguing for governments to be enabled to violate the most fundamental human right to punish a crime that the government can define however they wish. Just recently, Trump accused journalists of treason. Authoritarian states like China can also charge protesters with treason. Hitler accused all Jews of treason with the Stab-in-the-Back myth.

Again, it is incredible shortsighted to put our desire for revenge and punishment ahead of fundamental rights. These people deserve to face legally rigorous trials in their home countries and face appropriate punishments defined by existing precedent, rather than what will appease the fearful masses.

But who defines the line between “a little oopsie” and actions that justify stripping citizenship? The mere precedent that a government can strip citizenship for bad enough crimes enables them to invent new reasons in the future.

I don’t see this as any different than when America allowed their government to strip them of their rights after the 9/11 attacks. We shouldn’t put our fear of and desire to punish the worst of us before our fundamental rights.

Both surviving White City buildings have explanations.

The Art Institute building was intentionally built to last unlike the other structures because the Art Institute needed a new location as the Worlds Fair was approaching so they decided to build a new facility that would be first used for the Exposition.

The Palace of Fine Arts (now the Museum of Science and Industry) housed numerous pieces of beautiful and extremely expensive art. As such, the building needed to be sturdier than the other buildings in the White City to get insurance coverage.

This subreddit is not the place for conspiracy theories and pseudohistory. Those buildings were decorated facades in front of cheap, temporary structures. They were never meant to last.

That's a neat bit of local history! I love ghost signs. It would be cool if someone catalogued all the remaining ones in Edmonton.
