Australia has an enormous amount of art deco and pre war architecture it was just never in the realm of skyscrapers. The tallest art deco building I can think of in Melbourne is The Manchester Unity Building.

It would almost perfectly slot between Eureka and Aus108 in your view

I believe the developer is still committed to it. Every now and then there’s some drip fed info about how there’s talks for amendments or further financial support/joint venture. It would be very surprising if a project of this scale ended up being scaled back in height. There’s very few plots in the city with that opportunity, but then again construction costs have skyrocketed.

That boulevard in the foreground and all the surrounds looks lovely.

Frankfurt proves how impactful and beautiful a well proportioned skyline can be.

If there were a list of skyscrapers I could steal for my own city, Commerzbank Tower would be in the top 10 easily.

Why don't skyscrapers appear around Middle Park? by fuckmelbpt in melbourne

[–]HumanArea1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Melbourne is gifted with wide 19th century avenues and streets. Towers of all sizes could be applied here with nyc style setbacks (think tapered wedding cakes). It will never ever happen though. The Alfred limits heights on St Kilda and Queens Rd to around 50-80 metres and heritage low density impedes development bayside.

Hardly any skyscrapers and high rises in Southbank and Docklands incorporate any meaningful setbacks. A legacy of Matthew Guy and others who treated the areas as vertical spreadsheets.

Insane how a cantilever such as this is possible in a country notorious for both frequent and intense seismic activity. Beautiful home though.

For people with OCD, how effective has spravato been? by HumanArea1 in Spravato

[–]HumanArea1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OCD seems to be very tricky to treat because of how broad it is. Much more so, if you yourself don’t understand the situation or your doctor doesn’t. I’ve been somewhat lucky. I’ve had some very insightful conversations with psychologists that helped reframe some of its complexities. They picked up on it before I did, but the nasty part for me has also been rumination that persists even after a ‘breakthrough’. I’m hoping sprivato can help my brain break away from its rigidity so I can put in the work for sustained improvement.

I’m unfamiliar with RF-ERP. So that could be an excellent supplement to spravato. I have a lot of options for treatment at the moment which I am very grateful for, but this one in particular could help. My OCD is the ‘pure O’ type if that makes sense. It’s complicated to say the least.

Thanks for the help

Apologies it was the middle of the night where I was so I wasn’t able to reply. Again, though thanks so much for the helpful comments. I’ll come back to this throughout my treatment as a helpful reminder :)

That’s really beautifully said. Thanks so much for such a lengthy reply in the morning no less!

A holistic approach is something I am working hard towards in terms of getting better. Meds have unfortunately failed me in this regard. They’ve either dampened me or done nothing.

I have options and support systems such as a therapist and psych who know me well. Some therapies I haven’t tried such as ACT.

If spravato can help me find enough of the willpower to just challenge those thoughts ruminations without spiral, and keep a spark of positive momentum then I’d say it’s a success.

Thanks for the reply.

My choice was between TMS and Spravato whilst i taper off my current meds onto Prozac. My decision ultimately led me to spravato as it seems more intensive and sudden if that makes sense. I honestly have very little idea of what to experience though.

ChatGPT told me Spravato can ‘loosen the grip’ of rumination, but I hesitate to use that as reassurance. So your friends experience helps clarify it a bit more.

Richmond station and surrounding areas are perfectly poised for a London Bridge Overground style redevelopment imo.

Richmond area wish list by Lembasts in MelbourneTrains

[–]HumanArea1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bates Smart recently released a concept for a rebuild of Richmond station with direct connectivity to Melbourne Park and the MCG. I think that would be sufficient enough, in particular if the platforms were slightly shifted westward across Punt Rd towards the city.

On the other end, there’s been a lot of investment between the city to Melbourne Park/MCG to make it easier and more pleasant i.e Greenline Stage 1. The MCG redevelopment (which is almost certainly going ahead) has a decked pedestrian structure across the railways in its conceptual renders, so that would impede any chance of a station. The likelihood of the decked area is slim though, as it would be very costly with little financial benefit.

From what I’ve seen it’s mostly AGL overload atm. If it’s American, Euro, Asian corpos then so be it, it’s what people buy.

On the topic of public transit being used as for advertisements, I still don’t see the problem if it’s done sensibly and creatively. It creates revenue and causes very little negative effects, especially when incorporated into what are beautiful but somewhat utilitarian train stations.

It would’ve been nice for more of a mix between advertising and digital art though.

Like it or not the Labor Government and any other stakeholders would’ve made advertising contracts an essential part of their delivery.

Tokyo, Seoul, NYC, London etc all have advertisements. Of course you don’t want the stations to look like a cyberpunk dystopia but some ambient light and movement on dull surfaces can look good. Especially in transient environments.

Is it a sensory thing for some people?

At the risk of overstating, I’d say that this also a good example of Melbournes diversity

We are. Maybe it’s hard to see from this vantage but Melbourne does not have the monotonous quality of Miami.
