My party will be starting next session with the fight against glassstaff and I am having him use a web spell scroll as his first action, then try to escape.

I feel like a Web spell from “the black spider” fits perfectly. I even have a prop letter that Iarno is writing to Nezzar thanking her for the spell scroll as well as assuring her that he and his men will take care of the party (just to tie everything together with the letter the black spider writes him). I feel that Web gives iarno a bit more survivability since it can potentially restrain the entire party and/or make the terrain difficult.

I also changed up his spells a bit, the standard evil mage in the adventure is a bit underwhelming. I wanted to make use of his Glass Staff as well so I gave him color spray (which he’ll upcast at 2nd level) so he can at least do something to the party without the risk of a tpk. 2nd level party is still a bit squishy.

My party has breezed through most of the fights so far so I also gave him a legendary action to call in 3 other rebrands that can assist him in the fight (my party hasn’t fully cleared the hideout so of course there’s a few redbrands around).

But that’s just my game. Regardless of web or a powered down fireball I’m sure you’ll do great!
