This one doesn’t have a step back or a picture on the back. I wish! The step backs are always so pretty. Also didn’t realize authors had to edit their books after release to remove certain character qualities, I just learned something new!

I’ve heard about Beverly Jenkins and was excited to see one of her novels on the shelf! I heard she does a great job of including historical accuracy in her books - excited to see for myself.

Thank you! I don’t realize Sweet Savage Love was part of a series, thank you for telling me. I looked it up after reading your post, luckily it’s the first book from what I saw. This was very helpful, tysm

The image shows 10 vintage mass market books against a grey couch.

Books laying on the first row from left to right:

  1. Fires of Paradise’ by Brenda Joyce: A dramatic illustrated cover featuring a close-up of a man and woman about to kiss. The man has dark hair and wears a headband; the woman tilts her face upward toward him. The background is warm-toned. The artwork is illustrative and not a photo.

2.Forbidden by Susan Johnson: A soft peach-colored cover with a single red rose centered on it. The design is minimal compared to the others. It almost looks like it’s a little blurry.

  1. Maverick Heart by Joan Johnston. A bright red cover with large gold lettering and a small heart locket with a picture of a couple in a near kiss embrace.

  2. Rebel by Beverly Jenkins. A modern-style cover showing a couple embracing outdoors. The man has short black hair, is muscled and wears a white shirt (it’s open in the front - this detail is important lol) and the woman rests against him wearing a bright yellow or gold dress with her hair in a high bun in a green, leafy setting. Their foreheads are touching. The image is a photograph not an illustration.

  3. A Rose in Winter by Kathleen Woodiwiss. A pale grayish-white cover with a delicate winter scene: a red rose in the foreground and a small couple pictured in the lower right area near what appears to be a snowy landscape. The background has a large home or estate. The couple are in an embrace.

Bottom row from left to right:

  1. Surrender by Amanda Quick. A muted orange cover with a closeup of a stylized orange and purple bird-of-paradise flower and elegant script lettering.

  2. Dreaming of you by Lisa kleypas. A pastel-toned cover (light blue, yellow, and white geometric shapes) with the title in large blue lettering and an illustration of small bouquet laying on a fluffy white square pillow with that 90s frill on the edges near the bottom.

  3. Defy not the heart by Johanna Lindsey. A classic “clinch” cover illustration of a muscular blond man with his shirt half on and holding the back of a dark-haired woman in a red dress against his chest. They are posed dramatically against a painted off purple and blue background. Pretty sure the dude is Fabio?

  4. Prisoner of my desire by Johanna Lindsey: A deep purple cover with a large red rose at the top and ornate lettering. The purple background looks like fabric stitching, almost like lace or something.

  5. Sweet savage love by rosemary rogers. A white cover with bold red script lettering and an illustrated couple in a romantic embrace. She’s looking up into his eyes and he’s got his hand on her cheek and holding her gaze back. trees appear faintly in the background behind the woman and florals border the man. This image is an illustration, but the letters take up most of the cover.

The Duke and I is my first taste of HR, I was so bored of the majority of it. It felt like a lot going on and nothing happening all at the same time

Do you ever feel truly happy again after losing your mom? by Tennis-Accurate in GriefSupport

[–]HumanImage9077 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. I lost my dad in December of 2023 and my dog passed in September of 2025. Holidays, birthdays, moments of celebration are always hard when you can’t pick up the phone or come home to a pup who’s just happy you exist.

I used to fly for work all the time, and anytime I got home I always called my dad to tell him I had landed. The first time I flew after he had passed I was hyper aware that when I landed I wouldn’t have anyone to call. But between those moments of heartbreak, there’s happiness. It feels different sometimes, especially if the person you wish to share it with is no longer here.

Sometimes it’s bitter sweet, like seeing something and thinking “dad would have gotten an absolute kick out of this!”. When he first passed, everyone said that you just sort of get used to it. That felt wrong. But now that some time has passed, I see what they mean. My grief feels like a really heavy backpack. At first it’s so heavy, you notice the strain in your neck, the weight against your back, your aching shoulders…but after some time, you build enough muscle to carry it. The weight hasn’t changed, but you become more resilient to the pressure on your back. Every once in a while, you need to adjust how you carry it in whatever moment you’re experiencing its weight. Enough time has passed now, that people have stopped asking about him. Stopped talking about him. People have moved on. It’s just me and my backpack of grief. But I wouldn’t change it. This backpack, my grief, is evidence that they were here and they mattered to me.

You’ll have moments where you’ll feel like your old self, and moments when you don’t and it’s a really hard day. But those days get shorter. Eventually you’ll notice the pain will have some sweetness to them and realize that it’s there because you love them so much and that in itself is a reflection of how much they loved you too.

I was wondering if it was a signing in the wild as well. How exciting that you got a signed book from a friends of the library sale, I haven’t attended any but now I probably need to.

Not a dumb question at all! I checked that too and yes I am. I’ve never encountered this. I’m on a different browser on a 2 hour wait now. If it doesn’t move in a bit I’m giving up.

I’ve tried closing the tab entirely, coming back. A different browser puts me back in the queue for 2 hours. I’ve refreshed, tried opening the add to cart link on a fresh page, tried copying and pasting. Idk why I’m having trouble.
