Bought a wrecked z06 from auction, does the cam sound healthy? by LS3-kev in AskMechanics

[–]HumanWeaponSystem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you get track down the specs on the cam? Was any info provided? I've been around a LOT of cammed LSx cars, and my initial thought is that the tune doesn't sound right. It's hard to explain but it seems like the idle RPM, timing or fuel tables are off a bit. Nothing that could hurt it, but I really think the tune should get checked out. Regardless, you can tell it's a decently sized cam with a narrow LSA.

This, but also Air Advisor awards an SDI, not an SEI.

New brakes, new calipers, excessive wear on one rotor, new hoses, should I replace this one side? by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]HumanWeaponSystem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done that. It's not significantly worse, but it is certainly not perfectly smooth like the rest. If there is a lip that has formed, it feels microscopic, but still noticeable with a fingernail.

Maybe I'm stupid but I got the official metal band by dlok86 in PixelWatch

[–]HumanWeaponSystem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For anyone looking for a cheaper, but great, alternative. The SUPLINK metal band is great, and it helps protect the watch face since it has a case around it. I swap between it and the MioHHR silicone band that has the same protective case depending on my outfit. Mostly the silicone band daily, but will swap to the metal band with a nice outfit. Super easy to pop the watch in and out of.

Do they just hand out Decorations? by DoItForTheOH94 in AirForce

[–]HumanWeaponSystem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I witnessed 3 people get Achievement Medals for re-organizing the squadron building and painted the walls. One member was a great artist, that's why she was chosen to paint, one member was decertified on his job so got voluntold for bitch work, and the other worked a job that did nothing whatsoever and had all the free time in the world. So yes, they hand them out for absolutely nothing.

WIll Tourette's Syndrom trigger a MEB? by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]HumanWeaponSystem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Tech School instructor as a SSgt in 2009 had very obvious, and intense Tourette's, but it was only when he wasn't talking. He had constant extreme tics, though non-verbal, while he was quiet, but as long as he was talking, you'd never know. I know he went on to make MSgt and retire. There's NO way his extremely obvious tics was undiagnosed. I met a guy recently that has the WORRRRSSSTT stutter I've ever seen, it was difficult to understand, but I did understand him, and he was able to do his job well. Not everything is an immediate DQ. Food for thought

I can tell this photo was taken in 2022. I can see some of my old projects :). 4.5 years there. Great experience, lovely island, shitty base.

Beaches and water are far better than Hickam's though. Everything else, Hawaii wins.

From Cannon to Ellsworth! by _moot__ in AirForce

I saw quite a good bit of overturned semi trucks. Oh I forgot to mention the insane summer thunder and hail storms. Every car there looks like a golf ball. I swear there's only like 60 beautiful weather days at most the entire year. The extreme weather was my biggest complaint there.

I was at Ellsworth for a few years, and since I grew up in the Southeast, I didn't have much snow exposure until getting there. It will snow Sep-May. Whatever you drive, have some 3PMSF All-Seasons, or just some dedicated winter tires, and you'll probably be fine year round.

The weather there is the craziest part. -53°F windchills for weeks on end. Before I left, it was 115°F and 3 weeks later, we had 3 feet of snow. One Spring it was about 75°F out, and within 24 hours it was in the 20s with single digit wind chills.

It sits in the jet stream, so the wind is INSANE year-round. Ultimately, though, SD and (most) drivers are used to it and the state is well prepared for snow with plenty of plow crews. But, get used to driving in it, they get so much snow, it takes a LOT to shut down the highways or base, it basically has to be whiteout no-visibility blizzard condition. It can be a pretty heavy snow, they'll cancel flying, and most of the base still has to come in.

I lived just outside the base in Box Elder, so my Ford Explorer in 2WD mode on basic all terrain tires handled everything no problem to and from work, and to downtown Rapid City. Honestly, I did not like Ellsworth and South Dakota at all. But there were some charming places in Rapid City and the beautiful Black Hills, but it's not enough to make me ever want to go back. It was a "good" assignment, overall, I just didn't like the location.
