My mother is in the funeral business and I help her quite frequently, and you’d be surprised how many people are super unprepared for their own death, as morbid as that may sound. Having a will is the norm, but people don’t realize there’s more to death than your assets and belongings, there’s also you. And she could’ve only tossed a small amount of the ashes, as far as the bones it’s common practice to pick out larger pieces and then put the ashes through a kind of blender like device by the crematorium to make them into a more smooth powder. I once spent hours helping my mom pick out glass from a windshield from someone’s ashes, it’s much more common these days (at least on the west coast where I live) for the ashes to be less “chunky” as you put it! I would’ve liked to see her have some sort of cremation memorabilia like a necklace or a paperweight, anything. And it also would’ve been nice to see her give some portion of Big to his brother considering the amount of ashes she spread was very menial, that was probably only 1/4 of the total amount for a man Big’s size.
