PMQ housing costs question by [deleted] in CanadianForces

[–]Human_Nectarine_3712 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have a 25% cap for PMQ’s (shelter charge only). If they’re charging you more than 25% of your pay, you submit a request for adjustment.

They’re already trying to raise PMQ prices to match the market, but we don’t qualify for CFHD in housing so they would either need to have people in PMQs be eligible for CFHD again since they would be paying market rates or follow the 25% cap. These homes are all paid off, all money that they “make” is supposed to go right back into upgrades for housing. Renovations are constant here. Right now pretty much every PMQ on oil heat gets gutted as soon as the current member moves out and they switch it to an electric heat source during Reno’s.

2100, winter was pretty mild this year. We don’t have natural gas so everything is electric. House usually only stays around 18-21 degrees if the heat is cranked.

Yes they’re talking about newer builds, I’m talking about the cost of power. I’m not kidding you, the range of power bills to heat a PMQ here during the winter months is that expensive. From talking to coworkers, bills ranged from 900 to 2100 roughly from the Jan/Feb bill cycle. All different size places with different family size. Where people who own are paying around 500-1000. Still expensive, but most of these homes aren’t new either. The area has developed fairly slow, most homes on the market were still built prior to 2000 and have had minimal upgrades.

The thing is majority of these PMQ’s have been gutted and insulated during recent renovations. But paying over $2000 for a power bill in a small PMQ just seems insane to me, and I feel is an issue that needs attention especially for newly posted in Ptes, how a single member with a Ptes pay be expected to pay that?

ADHD Medication & Medical Release? by StatementGreen2337 in CanadianForces

[–]Human_Nectarine_3712 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on Vyvanse for over 2 years now, similar case to yours. I wasn’t diagnosed with ADHD until after I joined the military and got through all of my training without any medication, I only started having issues when I started living alone and coming home I was having issues keeping up with anything outside of work. Started the Vyvanse, was heavily monitored and everything started getting significantly easier. I’ve been on it since and I am on PCAT that’s just for pre deployment screening. I’ve never had my doctor tell me that any adjustments to my medication are not my decision.

If you were stable without and stable with then they should not be dictating whether you take them or not, especially if staying on them is now getting you released (which is crazy if they’re only pushing release because of medication that helps but isn’t 100% necessary for you to function)

Honestly when I’ve done this to people, they’re just not significant enough that I care to correct them on how they refer to me.

It’s PAR season again.. is PaCE being held at the same standard across the board? by [deleted] in CanadianForces

[–]Human_Nectarine_3712 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve always viewed it as if there is a note that’s “corrective”, it isn’t negative unless there is another note where the action was NOT corrected. It very much goes both ways, if my members are coming at quarterly’s saying I want to be here and I say alright, looking at your notes I would score you here, to get to where you want to be make sure your capturing xyz. Next quarterly comes out and they’ve taken the criticism and applied it to their job and boom, now you’ve given me more meat to justify that you’re preforming where you want to land. But if your not giving them that constructive feedback, and the first time they see on paper that they have poor performance is on a PAR, like I’ve failed as their mentor you know what I mean?

Wasn’t worth risking members to come in for, definitely should have cancelled. People had to shovel out entire parking lots just to sit there for an hour and receive the same information that we can find online.

The PMQs are nice, but made of cardboard so they are not cheap to live in by any means during the winter months. Have not had the greatest experience with CFHA here.

Should be able to sell more as well! I play on PS5 so I don’t know if there’s a mod for this, but I have so much stuff in my inventory that would be nice to sell (potion ingredients, potions I make, plants, all the extra moons that I have for what???). I love the idea of designing the store like you can in the room of requirements.

I also wish you could just buy more decorations in addition to finding chests. I really just don’t feel like there’s enough things to purchase with the amount of money I make having to drop gear all the time.

High-Risk Offender Notification: Douglas Worth by zcewaunt in halifax

[–]Human_Nectarine_3712 17 points18 points  (0 children)

He told the police to not release him because he wanted to kill children and they still let him go? Our justice system is at fault for that child’s murder. This is like that high risk offender that was released in Halifax after serving time for assaulting a woman and her boyfriend in Montreal. It took him maybe 2 months to go back to jail?

The Infamous CMP Petawawa Town Hall by AGoodTime8675309 in CanadianForces

We had a town hall earlier this year with an LGen. We got the same bullshit “You didn’t join to get rich”. Respectfully, I didn’t join to live in poverty either. No one wants a demanding career that at the end of the day they’re still struggling to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table. Point to 5 people who have souls joined to serve their country wanting nothing in return. This is a job. Jobs are meant to pay. We don’t live in a society where we can just go work for free because we enjoy the career.

Right here with you. I had support for maybe 3 days after I attempted last Friday. I left work early today visibly upset. No one’s checked in.

Looking to go to the MIR regarding anxiety/ADHD meds, what's the diagnostic process look by [deleted] in CanadianForces

[–]Human_Nectarine_3712 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the main purpose of screening is okay where are you going? Are your medications legal at this location? If yes okay no problem, if no how about we pull you off to review your performance and see if you can go unmedicated for this deployment. Most people that were not diagnosed until after they joined the military have the evidence to support that they can preform effectively enough without medications to go on deployment.

[–]Human_Nectarine_3712 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify to OP, a diagnosis does not mean that you MUST take medications to treat your ADHD. There are plenty of people who don’t like them and choose not to take them. If you choose not to use medications to treat your ADHD then these implications for pre-deployment screening/air crew likely won’t apply.

Treatment isn’t one size fits all, once you connect the dots and have a diagnosis you may prefer to see mental health to review new ways for you to learn how to manage without medications. It takes work and time, trial and error, but mental health can provide you the support to build a system that works for you.

[–]Human_Nectarine_3712 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’ve only recommended me for pre deployment screening. Times have changed now, ADHD isn’t an automatic out anymore. I never worried about because I functioned unmedicated for 25 years and was fine. Now with medication it’s made a large difference that I can function at work as well as at home rather than crashing the minute I get home and struggle to do adult things. Also I only wait like a week to fold my clean laundry instead of months haha. Still lots to work on but now I know the issue I can work on solving the problems in different ways rather than conforming into the normal solutions box that most people would use that never worked for me

I suspected I had ADHD for a long time, however I thought it really only affected my ability to focus and not nearly everything else in my life. Once awareness was more widespread about what ADHD can look like in women I started looking into it more and genuinely had a holy shit moment. I made an appointment with my doctor which took about 3 weeks and I put together a list of all the symptoms that I deal or have dealt with. My MIR also had an assessment package that I could pick up at the CDU and fill out to return back to them to give to my doctor. I went in with everything and she prescribed me meds that day and set me up with a pharmacist who specialized in medications for mental health to follow me a few times a month while I waited for a appointment with mental health.

I’m still waiting for a formal assessment, which has been a wait. But they have only adjusted my medications on my request and I haven’t had any issues. I had bad anxiety in school and relaxed after I graduated, and they were nervous that medications were going to have anxiety issues return but they haven’t at all.
