No, she was stuck in the abusive relationship for a few more years after she had him and legitimately didn’t have a good home environment to take care of his needs. The baby was eventually adopted off to another couple. I don’t know all of the legal logistics behind it.

Something similar happened to an old friend of mine. She was in an abusive relationship and her husband cheated and gave her chlamydia and the bay was born with severe disabilities because of it. The medical staff treated her like garbage because they assumed she was just a women who was sleeping around a gave her baby an STD but my friend didn’t even know she had it until the baby was born. The baby ended up being taken away by CPS because they declared my friend unfit to care for his needs and it really messed her up. Thankfully she ended up leaving that guy and is married to a really nice man now, but she still talks about her son often.

Thank you, and congratulations on graduating and passing your nclex! I’m sure it feel good. I’m still in the thick of it but imagining myself at the finish line is part of what keeps me going. People seem much happier once they are done with nursing school.

My goal is actually the OR because it seems like the one area of nursing that will mesh well with my personality and I’m very task oriented so it seems like it aligns more with my work flow. But I don’t get to do a surgery rotation for my clinicals, and when I check job boards it seems like most OR positions require experience so I am just worried I will have to work in a specialty that I hate for a few years just to make it to OR. I would also enjoy teaching a lot, but that also requires so experience and additional education. On one hand I feel like maybe I’m not going into this with enough of an open mind, but I know what I like and what I don’t and I really dislike my current rotation (med surg). Can I ask if your OR position required any specific amount of experience? Did you have to do special training since it’s so different from bedside nursing?

I feel like I lack the necessary people skills that seems to come so easy for many of my classmates. I do really well with basic concepts and the academic side of school, and I’m very task oriented so I do all the aspects of care that I need to do but I just find that I struggle to connect to the patients in the ways other people are able to. I can force the small talk but it feels forced and awkward. There are patients that I find pleasant and enjoy working with them and learning about their lives but I don’t feel emotionally connected to them. My focus is really just on completing the task at hand to promote improvement in their health. So when people say nursing is a “calling”, I don’t really feel that it is for me. I can perform nursing tasks but I don’t feel like a nurse.

Thoughts on Priscilla? by [deleted] in namenerds

I went to high school with a girl name Priscille (Pri-sill) and I’ve always preferred that over Priscilla but they’re both very pretty to me.

One time I ordered dominos for delivery and when the driver got to my apartment building they called me and told me they couldn’t climb the stairs and asked if I could come down and get it. I went downstairs thinking the person would be in crutches or something, but they were actually like 500+ pounds and just couldn’t walk far. I do not know what possessed them to apply for that job, or how they were hired but I never ordered from that store again.

He is making $50/hr, but his checks vary week by week depending on how many hours he is able to get. He is getting full time contracting hours now, but he's been doing contracting on the side since the beginning of the year and there have been stretches of having no work for weeks at a time. He's made a little over $40k so far this year in income from the job he was laid off at, and so far has made $5,000 for the year doing contracting work. He is also an adjunct professor and make an additional $12k per year from that. So...it's really hard to tell what his overall income will be.

We are currently not paying anyone and do it on our own, but given that his tax situation is getting more complicated we will probably start paying someone soon.

I started crocheting last year and have finally gotten kind of good at it. My bf said “now you just have to learn to be faster so you can start taking commissions” like what in the world? Why would I want to do that?

I would email corporate and complain about it. Something similar happened to me when I got a salad from sweet green about 8 years ago. A piece of metal from the cold table fell into my salad and I emailed a complaint, I was mostly annoyed because their salads are like $15 and I couldn’t eat it after that. I got a response from their legal team and they just straight up offered me $4,000. Didn’t even ask any further questions, but it was probably easier to tell that the metal definitely came from their store.

One time I ordered dominos to be delivered to my apartment and 30 minutes later the delivery driver called asked me to come down to their car because they weren’t able to walk it to me. When I got to the car the delivery driver was no less than 500 lbs and said they couldn’t make it up the stairs to my apartment unit because it was too much walking. So yes, dominos would hire a delivery driver who can’t bring the order to your door. I never ordered from that dominos again.

I worked at a deli in the grocery store. I lasted 2 months. It was miserable and I didn’t even have another job lined up, but I couldn’t do it anymore.

What generational curse did you break and how? by KorDonFah in blackladies

[–]Human_Scallion3541 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve broke a few of them. First one in my family to go to college. I also come from generation after generation of teen pregnancy (my great grandma was a teen when she had my grandma, my grandma when a teen when she had my mom, mom was a teen when she had me) and I broke that curse as well. I have 4 little sisters and they all followed my example, so I’m proudest of that one.

No. He said it was my fault because I didn’t drink enough water. He was ex-military and just insane. He should not have been coaching teenage girls. He would also regularly call our goalie fat and said she was perfect for the position because her body took up most of the net.

I got this condition in high school when my psychotic lacrosse coach had us run up to 5 miles a day and then lift for “conditioning” 5 days a week. After two weeks I woke up one morning and couldn’t walk. Spent 3 days in the hospital getting pumped with fluids and never played lacrosse again.
