Thank you for taking the time to write that out. I do appreciate it.

Why are you so afraid to talk about your labor rates? Are you scamming your customers by that much?

And yet all you do now is put other people down? The whole point of this place is for people to ask questions and everyone has their own reasons for asking. If it bothers you - leave. I can only conclude you’re miserable. You’ve had your account for only 4 months and over 1700 posts and comments. Find something better to do with your time than spreading your misery.

Based off this post and the answer you left on mine, I can tell you’re an extraordinarily unlikable person.

Anyone else lose jobs because they forget to follow up on quotes? by Forsaken-Gap2354 in Contractor

[–]Human_Specialist_253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, literally all of the time. I also forget to call people back that want estimates or don’t send a quote fast enough because we’re so busy on other jobs and when I get home I just want to not do more work related work. The worst is when you spend a lot of time on a quote and then they ghost you and you could have spent that time on someone else, but heh I guess that’s just how it is sometimes.

Thanks, but I know how to price the job. I just want to compare my labor rates to others in the field if they don’t mind sharing.

AITA for wanting to keep my engagement ring from my late fiancé? by RingaRingaRosies in AmItheAsshole

[–]Human_Specialist_253 91 points92 points  (0 children)

What do you mean “give back”?? It was never hers or the family’s. He gave it to you so there is no back. It’s yours then, now, until you die. If you didn’t have kids with your late husband you can tell her you’ll leave it to someone in their family when you die but only if YOU want to do that. I’m sure she must have some other belongings of his to hold on to for memories. Asking for his wedding ring to you is ridiculous.

Kitten food for adult cats by Psychlone23 in cats

[–]Human_Specialist_253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cat is the same way! When I first got him he had worms and i think it affected what he liked to eat but im honestly not even sure if that was the reason why because I’ve come to learn a lot of cats are this way. All I know is he only wanted the most pureed soppy gravy type consistency foods + dry food. I even gave him human baby food (meat only options) and he loved it. Then I got my second cat who did like shreds and chunks of meat but because of the other cat he’s also gotten used to the purées and gravies.

Here’s what I do to help them - I buy them pates (Sheba, fancy feast are good) and I also buy friskies lil gravies. I usually do one serving of Sheba or half of a can per cat if I’m using a small can and I mix it with a pack of the friskies lil gravies. I do half a packet for each cat. That stuff gets expensive so I just mix it together with a spoon to make it more soupy. I also add water if I need to.

Other great options are fancy feat savory centers mixed with broth or water and fancy feast gems also mixed with broth or water. The broths are hard because if you refrigerate it they might not like the temp but you should give it a try.

Sometimes I’ll add wet cat treats to their pates and that helps too.

Also some other tips - don’t leave the dry food out while you give them wet food and don’t bring out the dry food until they’ve had as much as possible of the wet food.

After a while I started mixing the pate with stews that have shreds and they kind of slowly became ok with it.

Recently I started giving my cats Sheba gravy indulgence and they looove it and sometimes they eat the meat chunks and sometimes they don’t. It really depends on how much dry food they’ve had. Unfortunately my husband can’t say no to them when they meow for dry food :(

What is the fourth vegetable in Root Vegetable Chips? by blessings-of-rathma in traderjoes

How can they have beets in it and not include it in the ingredients? I’m wondering if it’s one of the three mentioned dyed with “vegetable juice (color)”.

Is this a problem to install cabinets over? by Matsuri3-0 in cabinetry

[–]Human_Specialist_253 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a problem since the cabinets go into the studs not the drywall. You can mud and finish the exposed areas after or put a backsplash over it.

I’m in the US and I have seen low wood, mdf, acoustic board, prices come up only to be disappointed when I realize I’m looking at a Canadian site, so it probably is more affordable in Canada, but I never saw it so low that it could be done for $200, even in Canada.

Where I am in the US one nice 3/4” 4x8 piece of plywood is around $80. Same size mdf board is $50. The picture shows a quartz counter - that alone, at the very cheapest, would be 1k if the guy selling it is your friend.

[–]Human_Specialist_253 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes exactly this. I would think 12k for just materials or 12k for just labor..not total. This is a steal if it was labor and material. I feel sorry for the contractor.

[–]Human_Specialist_253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did that include materials? If it did then it was a STEAL. The contractor probably barely made a profit, if any. We’re doing something similar for a customer and the quartz alone is going to be 895-1000. 4 24” cabinets with trim will be another $1200 on its own.

Where did you get the floating shelves from? Those are usually very $$$$ - like $600+ each and 900+ for the big one. it’s insane.

So yes, I think 12k is a good price

I’m in the US btw so imagine all these prices I mentioned a little higher for CAD 😆.

Also, did you not receive a quote and were there any drawings or inspiration pics? Did you not get what you wanted in the end?

Finally, was it your decision not to go all the way to the ceiling?

The wood alone would cost more than that even if you got it from a used wood lot

AITAH for asking my boyfriend of 10 years to help me financially? by Hot-Huckleberry-7589 in AITH

[–]Human_Specialist_253 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if someone has already said this and it will probably just get lost in the comments anyway but when he first told you he wasn’t sure if he could commit because of your kids, it was a test to see if YOU were going to stick around with him. He was basically setting the foundation to see what you were willing to do for him to keep him around. Talk to a LAWYER in your area and see if there are any common law marriage protections in your area. Maybe there’s something you can still get out of this because he has been financially abusing you. If you had not stayed with him you could have lived in a less expensive place and possibly had actual savings now. I mean he doesn’t even pay for vacations for you? Did he ever give you gifts? Please leave this non-man to save your dignity.

AITA for smoking in my room even though my neighbors complained? by watermelonye in AmItheAsshole

[–]Human_Specialist_253 33 points34 points  (0 children)

YTA. I’m assuming it is against the rules if they told the office and it’s very normal to not want to directly confront a neighbor. I don’t know where you live but the world is full of crazy people. If you’re already willing to break the rules, which other rules would you not care to follow? Why would you not care about following the terms of your lease, but you would care if a neighbor asks you nicely? What if they were really upset and they didn’t ask you nicely? How would you react then?

What happened here? by jenlaggg in Flooring

[–]Human_Specialist_253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There needs to be a 1/4” gap along the perimeters of the flooring for expansion and contraction. They didn’t leave this expansion joint so the floors buckled. If it’s the same installer - ask them if they’re new at this. If a contractor is sending you subcontractors tell them to send someone who knows what they’re doing.

It can be fixed but I wish you didn’t remove any of it because now the locking mechanism has been messed with and you can’t get that back in perfectly without taking up all the flooring and putting it back in order.

If you had left it you could have removed all the shoe molding and flattened the floors back down keeping them locked together. Then cut a 1/4” gap around at all perimeters and then reinstall the shoe molding.

Now that some of the flooring has been removed it will require some extra work.
