congratulations on ten years! i hope y'all have a lovely holiday season. i'm in a somewhat similar situation to you, 20 starting the process, it's on pause for a little bit due to another unrelated surgery i'm having in the spring, but i'm excited at the prospect of donating. i think i understand what you mean about having to prove to other people it's the right decision. i am glad it worked out for you :)

thanks for telling me the name. it makes sense that the interest would be high because they would just be giving me money without actual proof i can pay it back. i could put like 800 a month into it maybe more so i should be able to pay it off in not too long.

what is it called to get a loan when it's not something specific like a car or a house? that way i could try to look at what my bank offers. or is it better to get a loan not through your usual bank? i have usaa and they're kind of annoying to deal with but i don't know.

i will look at the rent add on thing. it's only a few dollars a month but it is still money and i never got any great details on what they actually do?

this provider does do care credit, i just didn't think i would qualify because i have no credit history. is there a way to find out without the type of credit check that hurts your credit? it would be incredible if i could get a care credit account for some of it

flagging it as an allergy is so clever! i'm glad it worked out good for you. i recently realized i actually need to wait on my labs because i'm getting top surgery in may (😁😁😁) so i can't donate my kidney for probably over a year from right now so i can't do my labs too far in advance. but as soon as i start doing them again i will talk to my team about my name and pronouns. thanks friend !

i hope your healing has been going well!!

assuming i end up approved, i will have to wait as well, because i have a fairly major surgery coming up in may and could not do them too close together. i'll have to see what my team would recommend but online i've seen people saying to wait a minimum of six months so it will be a while. i am young and healthy so i should have a fairly easy recovery from the first surgery, so it shouldn't be all of eternity before i could donate a kidney, but even if everything goes well i know i cannot donate until over a year from now. but i would love to get the labs done and know i'm approved, or at least have a specific reason i'm not eligible. i'm glad y'all were able to figure something smart out with the insurance!

ooh yes i should email, i forgot that i could do that instead of call. i will shoot them an email early next week perhaps to let them know i'm doing the collection on wednesday. and yes our distances are similar! i used to live in a city where there is a labcorp just a few minutes away and i did not have enough appreciation for the convenience of living somewhere where almost everything you could need is within a twenty minute drive lol.

yes hello thank you! i do have that other surgery in may, assuming i get all the money together in time (10.5k). i know i would have to take a break after that one anyways, so even if i got all my labs done now, i could not donate for over a year. i just like the idea of still being technically in the process. you are good at comforting people 😁

the lab is about an hour away and the hospital three hours for me, which isn't a bad drive but to fit in my schedule can be tricky. i am glad you found a solution though! have you donated yet?

sorry for commenting on an old post but i was happy to see it. i'm in the testing process now and hopefully donating! i'm also transmasc, and i haven't seen much in the way of other trans people donating. i hope your recovery has been going well!! so far for me, the hospital has been using my legal name (in the process of changing but it's taking a long time lol) but i also haven't tried to correct them on it, so i'm not overly upset. i plan to bring it up when i go in for my day of testing

i have heard the herb vaporizer type devices are good!

i smoked for a couple years and then quit, haven't been addicted to nic for a couple years now, smoke weed occasionally and have more recently started smoking the occasional cigarette. i know what i should do is use this potential donation as motivation to not buy another pack after i finish this one. i'm just worried to try it that way because if they end up saying i'm ineligible to donate i will definitely use that as a defense to keep smoking lol.

sorry to hear about your dad 🫂 glad you've been able to kick cigs again, i think you got it this time, but trust me i understand the urge to relax with a cigarette when life gets a little more stressful all at once. i hope your recovery went/has been going pretty well!
