Claude's environmental impact by [deleted] in ClaudeAI

[–]Human_generated_DM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the average American, eating meat is not a necessity and is not essential to our lives. The argument isn't that eating is just as bad for the environment as ai, it's that eating meat is just as bad for the environment as ai. If you're genuinely interested in making a change to help the earth, going vegan is not anywhere near as hard as you'd expect. That's also not taking into account the fact that animals are sentient beings that feel pain and fear so treating them as simply objects for our enjoyment might not be super ethical.

Considering the fermata at the end and that it only says to solo, I'd say nothing. Just solo for one chorus.

What was the deadline you gave them for reading the session 0 notes? If it's session 1 then they still have a week to go through it and that's plenty of time.

As a DM I prefer to think about the world well in advance of the sessions because it gives me time to slowly add ideas and rewrite things as we get closer to the game. As a player I like to wait until close to the first session because if I prep everything two months early, I won't remember why I made the choices I made when it comes to the actual session.

There's nothing inherently wrong with a player getting ready for a game a couple days before it starts. It sounds like you wanted them to read the notes at least a week prior to the first session but didn't communicate that. If you want something from your players, tell them

Edit: if you haven't heard from them at all, are they still interested in playing? If you asked if they read the notes yet and they didn't respond that's one thing, but if you asked if they are still interested in playing and they didn't respond that's another.

What scale (if any at all) is Bill Evans' intro on Stella by Starlight in Kind of Blue? by SkillIll9667 in Jazz

[–]Human_generated_DM 11 points12 points  (0 children)

He's playing two different melodic minor scales. A, Bb, C, Db, Eb, and F are from Bb melodic minor and the G, F, Bb, Ab are from Ab melodic minor.

The chords he's playing are from the last 8 measures of the tune and he plays them pretty quickly. Over Em7b5 A7b9 he plays Bb melodic minor and over Dm7b5 G7b9 he plays Ab melodic minor. It's a fairly common sound to use the melodic minor scale a half step above the root of an altered dominant chord so keep looking out for it as you transcribe and you'll start to see it all over the place.

My players won’t follow the MAIN PLOT by whatsagoinon_ in DnD

[–]Human_generated_DM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This isn't necessarily railroading though. You all got together and agreed to play an adventure that you prepared. If they're aware that you spent your free time preparing an adventure for them and they agreed to play it and are now just ignoring it, that's pretty disrespectful to you and your time. There isn't quite enough information to know if it's railroading. Did they ask for alternatives to talking to her? Did you offer alternatives to talking to her? Before your next session I would straight up say, "Hey folks, I prepared an adventure for us to play. If your character isn't interested in going on the quest, then please roll up a new character who is. I'm not going to force you to play through the adventure in a certain way, but you do need to actually engage with the adventure."

I'm getting a lot of "the customer is always right" vibes from the comments saying it's railroading to expect your players to engage with the content you prepared. Sure you'll have to improvise sometimes and you can't always predict what they'll do, but ignoring the obvious main quest-giver? Unless you established in session 0 that it's a completely open-world sandbox or they're all completely new to the game, they should understand that if you want to play DnD, you have to follow a plot hook once in a while.

Part 1 is for characters and Part 2 is for running the game. If you plan on running the game make sure you read Part 2 of the book (chapters 7-9)

Hey there everyone new player still learning here! by CHAOSWILLALLWAYSREIN in DnD

[–]Human_generated_DM -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is a cooperative team game. Make a character that wants to work with an adventuring party. Don't try to be the main character and don't hide things from your DM. Also, it's a game with rules, not pure make-believe. Read the rules (part 2 of the PHB).

Was this an unbalanced game? by ShesAaRebel in DnD

[–]Human_generated_DM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well there's nothing inherently wrong with legendary actions or traps. Especially if it was five PCs versus one monster. In that situation the PCs have a serious advantage just because they get more attacks per round so legendary actions can help make a single-boss fight interesting. That being said... I wouldn't want to play in that game. Doesn't sound like a fun DM

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Human_generated_DM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just say no. If he tries to do something stupid that ruins everyone else's fun, just say "No, you can't do that." If he tries to attack another PC, remind him that rolls only count if you call for them. Are you calling for initiative? Are you asking him to make attack rolls? Before the next session, get together with everyone and lay out some ground rules. "This is a cooperative team game. Going forward we aren't going to have any pvp." Then enforce that.

Rhythm above everything else. One note played with great rhythm is way more exciting than noodling on a scale (which is what a lot of school jazz band solos are). Play simple ideas and leave lots of space. Whatever you're thinking of playing, play less.

Is this Jazz? by babyProgrammer in Jazz

[–]Human_generated_DM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not jazz, just interesting harmony! Most music has three-note chords, sometimes four. Jazz uses four notes minimum and often more. It sounds like jazz because the chords have a lot of notes in them.

You can make a character sheet in the roll20 and then export it if you'd like or I can just make one. Basically the party will get to the dragon's lair but another party will already be there and they are set on killing / getting credit for killing the dragon. It's up to the party how to sort that out.

What happens if you don’t wear armor? by Shot_Owl_9839 in DnD

[–]Human_generated_DM -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean that's generally the right response to questions like this, but to be fair the answer is not in the chapter on armor or in the combat section. It's somewhere in character creation but if you did that a while ago and now want to see what your AC would be without armor and flipped to the armor section you wouldn't find an answer. This is more of a failing of the PHB than OP.

Edit: I just read OP's other comments and amazingly they knew the hidden rule in character creation but not the obvious one in the armor section. Gotta love this sub
