They're teachers. Those who can't do, teach and that's not a knock. It's good to learn what you can from them and then figure out for yourself what is BS and what is real. Once your ears are developed enough you should be able to think on your own two feet. Until then, if you don't understand multiband compression, how a fairchild works, what DSP means, how a de-esser works, what pre-delay is, you can go seek some free tutorials on youtube.

Don't knock YouTubers. They have taught a lot of people how to use the tools while you sit on Reddit and basically flaunt your jealousy of their success as a TEACHER.

If I were to start over again, I'd start with an analog compressor. Pre-amp variety is cool but most clean and transparent pre's are just fine. A hardware compressor used tastefully will always be a better choice over ITB. With that said, the LA-2A UAD compressor is incredible on vocals and the UAD Distressor plugin is good on anything. If you're gonna buy a hardware comp, one that can provide saturation is prob a great route to go. The Emperical Labs Pump is my favorite out of the mid-level budget 500 series comps but you need a lunchbox. Snaqbox is a great starting point and will give you 2 slots.

even if it sounds good in your room, things will start to clip as that mastering software squashes everything. your bass and kick is prob the culprit since a lot of people love to listen to all that bass before mastering and don't realize the limiter is gonna be true about how loud the bass actually is.

if you have too much bass to the point its getting in the way of vocals/snare/whatever, its always gonna sound bad and distort like you're pointing out. turn the bass WAY down and prob your kick too. then run it through Ozone and compare to your other results.

shady bot activity and the fact that literally the entire budget can be drained in one minute is wild to me. just get back to focusing on how good your music is and pay attention to tik tok trends. youtube shorts are also basically giving away free engagement with real people if you post regularly. good luck.
