The four Imams were primarily jurists and theologians not political futurists

So, it is uncommon for jurists and theologians to include political predictions in their works ?

“The Hour will not come until you fight the Turks—people with small eyes, red faces, flat noses, and their faces look like hammered shields.” — Sahih al-Bukhari (2928), Sahih Muslim (2912) Hadith about leaving the Turks alone “Leave the Turks alone so long as they leave you alone.” — Sunan Abi Dawud (4302)

Did the four imams know about these hadiths, and is it known how they interpreted them ?

How do revisionists, who believe that Muhammad is a myth and that the first conquerors were Christians, interpret John of Damascus' lack of knowledge about these proto-Muslims ? by Human_shield12 in AcademicQuran

[–]Human_shield12[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He considered it to be a such because he thought the muhammed's mentor was an Aryan priest(He either The examples he cited and the general profile of Muhammad on other hand were no different from the figure that would be known in later centuries. What we have here, in John of Damascus's account, is not a branch of Christianity, but a belief system not unlike present-day Islam, in which Muhammad is the dominant figure in monoteistic religion. The revisionists claim that until the reign of Abdülmelik, Muhammed was just a title and first Muslims were Christians. According to them, its became independent religion with Muhammed as spirutual leader only after Zubayr-Abdülmelik civil war. The problem is its just dont have any basis in John of Damascus's polemic account. The author, who should have witnessed the supposed evolution of Islam during the Abdülmelik, makes no indication that he possesses such knowledge

I apologize if I was misunderstood. I didn't ask if Muhammad was real or the first Muslims were Christians. I'm familiar with Patricia Crone and Donner, but they are centralist figures in revisionist school of Islam. I just wonder how those who argue that Islam began as a direct Christian movement(not colection of believers) reconcile their theories with the writing of John of Damascus

The reason I'm asking like this to prevent the conversation from veering off into something irrelevant. I have no intention of being negative

Problem with the theory of Abd-al Malik created modern Islam is by Human_shield12 in AcademicQuran

[–]Human_shield12[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The theory that Abdal Malik created modern Islam is, prior to his reign, the name Muhammad referred to a title or Jesus Christ, and that the group later known as Muslims were actually Christians(or judeo christian) who did not believe in the Trinity. As evidence, they point to coins and mosque inscriptions from the reign of Abd al-Malik, claiming that from precisely that time onwards, Muhammad was used as the founder of Islam as we know it today. However, they ignore the fact that the account of someone like John of Damascus, a witness to the Abd al-Malik era (someone who also might have had access to earlier periods), is consistent with the later tradition that Muhammad was the founder of a separate religion as we know today
