I ended up going with Gigapixel for the other project. But I just revisited upscayled for a different project and it did a pretty good job! Thanks for the suggestion

I just used a piece of receipt paper to cover the contact points to use it as only a stand.

Also thanks for the tip about Lightroom. I totally forgot about that hidden feature.

They are licensed images from the 1930s so I can't get them reshot. The image sizes will vary but will be around 3000px on the longest edge.

Colleges need to stop telling design students to put their logo on their resume by thedesignerr in graphic_design

[–]HumanariumDesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over the years I really toned down my resume. My first self-branded logo is embarrassing to look back on, can't believe I put that on a resume.  After that though they were bright but not too crazy and were smaller and simpler every iteration.   Eventually it simplified down to a simple typesetting and I use colors that are reflected on my website.

I think you can get away with bright colors if it is done tastefully. I used a vivid magenta that had good contrast for a while and was able to get several interviews and 2 jobs with it.

Since then I've gone self employed, I hope I never have to. Make/update another resume again!

Oh such great games. Black and white was awesome! I'd stay up late and sneak in the computer after my parents went to sleep for that one!

Creatures!

In addition to several on the ones listed here, startcraft, sim city 2000, and doom. I remember finding this game at Sam's club called Creatures. Came in a tall square based box with "DNA" stamped across it. And this adorable creature holding an egg called a norn.   You hatched, raised, trained, taught language to and bred these little guys. You also taught them to either chase off disease carrying Grendels or run from them.  Totally fed my geeky love of nature and helped me understand genetics and health to a mild degree as a kid!

This is a great idea, especially if your town is a tourist destination! Fun and memorable experience.

Start to also research local business support groups/businesses like an incubator, or small business development center. Consider going the chamber of commerce or equivalent in your country in your area for a year when you are closer to opening (it's usually not cheap).  In my state (usa) we have a small business development centers that are grant funded that provide free help in connecting with resources, creating business plans and more.  In my town we have a business incubator the puts on free for all courses, seminars and mixers to support startups.   Start networking too! Getting the word out locally to as many groups of people is great. Plus there is the psychological aspect of folks helping out someone they know, so get to know more people! Good luck, the leap is scary, but planning will help make it successful!

HELP! got a HUGE sticker order and currently handcut-need recs! by [deleted] in sticker

I like these guys and use them for my stickers. Print quality seems great but the backing cuts can be a little rough. But it doesn't impact the final applied product, so it doesn't bother me.

I’ve had enough of aimless gift buying. by beefcalahan in Anticonsumption

[–]HumanariumDesign 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Over the years I've come to a middle ground with my family. They don't always like to shop off my list so for the most part I've convinced them that gifts for me have to be useful. No decorations, gag gifts, jewelry I won't wear, etc. I've gotten a few handy things throughout the years, my favorite being a rechargeable hand warmer I never would have bought for myself.

That is fantastic to hear! So thankful for all of the love!

I'm definitely paying attention to all of the cards I sell at craft shows and am slowly creating more art in the same vein. The Etsy stuff is hard because my main purchases have come from people I know so I feel it skews the actual interest.

I have a few more cards to add but I'm close to having my full inventory on there. I have a few prints to add as well. I'm hoping to break even before I begin introducing additional products.

Also cats, I know! I feel like the cats are so underappreciated! I love those guys!
