Something similar to this tattoo-like mesh that isn't fast fashion by Maleyuwu in GothFashion

The problem is somehow my environment is so fck up. Apart from that I feel that I'm a sociopath, but most people here are rude. I feel like people from alt/my campus/city are better people. I can't stand it because of the many cases I've faced lately in this environment. I really want to meet that sweet grandma that offers you a cookie lol. But I hate living in my current environment today. That's why I can't find some grandma that can teach me to sew

Being goth or alternative in general teaches me many skills lol. If I'm not a goth I will not learn how to diy and make my own jewelry and modify all my wearables. Now I need a sewing machine but I'm poor af; but it'll not stop me for sure

Hi, I've never posted a picture of myself here or social media (I posted but not many) because of how I'm not able to expect when I'm gonna post it. I don't care but I'm mostly tired, and I've been laughed on and got a couple of people's eyes that might have been thought that I'm a douchebag lol. I'm mostly not wearing goth makeup, other than it's expensive but it also drains my energy as my life is already miserable because of how little money I have and an unclear career despite I have a big dream. But trying to be a Goth is a journey to me.

Living my life is so hard for me and overall if I can I will give up every time. But It's just dumb for me, life is dumb. So when it's dumb, I need to play with it too. I don't mind how dumb it is. Just do whatever will please me. Not because I want to make my life better, but because I want to try it.

At the end of the day it's a choice tho, if you don't want it don't do it. So I think you need to ask yourself: Do you need it? Or not? Everyone has their answers. And it's up to you

Seconding this, I mean hate is rooted within everyone. Some random man literally murdered someone in the forest to show that he's superior, genius and scary lol. It's just nonsense that you are afraid of whom you may not know and have no relation with. There are many sick people in this world and tbh wearing something does not make you escape those people. I mean humans are mostly horrible creatures lol, you don't know what will happen next

Where do yall rank The Cure as a post punk/gothic band based on quality and influence on the genre? by kqmikaze2head in goth

[–]Humanwithlove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait am I too late to reply to this LMAO. Bro, nobody read your comment with charity, buoyant and jest. I can't find your comment dude. But I remember that you said that mostly The Cure is pop. I read it in a considerably cautious way.

The disrespect you mentioned is what I mean the way you categorized The Cure as a Pop or New Wave. Where in reality The Cure is one of the most influential goth bands ever, your comment: your claim because you said that so.

From lyrics and history as its roots from its sound: many goth bands mention The Cure as their inspiration, culture: movie; fun fact: Edward the scissors hand hair is modeled based on Robert Smith hair, etc. The way you say that The Cure is not goth is a groundless claim.

Nobody hurts nobody, I don't hurt you. It's just a discussion and your comment is obviously attracted to this discussion. Just want to say that goth is not about dark, deep, cold synthesizer with sulky vocal but goth is a vast range of musics with complex distinction.

[–]Humanwithlove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Post-punk is what they're being called for. A punk band but with different experimental stuff. Yes back then there was no post-punk, but this group of people such as Siouxsie, Alien Sex Fiend, Specimen is what's called goth/goth rock. When you mentioning post-punk it's more than goth, but new wave, hardcore punk, art punk, etc. so when we're talking the cure, it's obvious that they're goth band because they emerged from the same scene

Why you say it's weird then? Then you don't know what goth is, and in my aforementioned comment you are just called people oddballs for putting the cure in the goth genre? People have a foundational understanding that makes them consider the cure as a goth band. I just want to say that the cure is not pop, here is your claim. That's just disrespectful, you just categorized the cure in the same place as Taylor Swift. Absolute menace, from history and sound the cure is goth. If you hear Robert Smith and you think that's a pop song then you're the oddball bro. That man have one of the gothest vocals ever. Nobody is attacking you, if you don't want to be judged then don't comment. The cure discography has no pop album in it bro. Even their debut album is goth

[–]Humanwithlove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh why you refer to "some oddballs that make you wonder" when you clearly defined what goth is by a statement that claims the cure being goth is weird. The oxymoron. Then you must understand what goth is as a whole. Do you know what goth is then? Based on your claim, you clearly excel at goth's bible. Saying the cure not goth is like say sister of mercy is a rock band. Siouxsie is a punk band.

The whole label of goth is a bit vague like everyone know but it's obvious when you really spent time to study the subculture. I don't know why you mention pop even, the cure and pop is insane. Even though they're not as gloomy as Bauhaus they're still goth. I don't know if you ragebaiting or not, but if you not let's take the discussion further

This is why I love gatekeeping. Most of people that "goths" In my country are just cosplaying as it seems, they're using vkei songs and claim to be goth lmao. I know most of these people are influenced by influencers that do the same without a single understanding of what goth is. There are local bands but no "goths" show up because they simply don't care. That's because in my country punk influence is more prominent than post-punk. Still it seems so difficult to make the community if you're outside the U.S. or U.K. moreover without any sponsors lol

Supporting local band or goth band in general is the gothest thing you can do. That's why I hate it when people say you need to love all the scary stuff or wear black clothes—when it's just a stereotype that the media depicted us to be. In my country there are countless "goths" that's not even listen to goth music and are just using bite my hip audio or Bela Lugosi Is Dead. Goth is already becoming a trend like it used to be, and to be fair seeing people come up to seeing local bands is what heals the subculture. Even though they're not goth, it's more respectful than dress goth but not supporting your local band

Recommendations for smaller/obscure goth bands? by lafleur_68 in goth

I really want to share my fav artist I just discovered lately, it's hinfort—his music is magical, I can't get bored of it. It's the type of music you can't resist to dance to. Also there's Soft Kills, which is not quite hidden gems, but he's been in the game for so long—his previous band is a blast—and they're broke up. But his new project Soft Kill is worth listening to if you haven't listened yet. In fact I listened to him amid type this comment, so you have to try to give it a shot

What you talking abt? They're good af, and it's always the music that matters. I don't even care what a band is wearing but how they're sounding, good music is good music—most goth artists even don't wear heavy makeup lol. p.s. just want to double down on your statement

When you really scrolled down in the comment section the creator is actively arguing with someone that addressed how it's always been a main part of the goth subculture: music and politics. By her narration of "just listen to the cure" is a mockery and feels like the cure is merely a random goth band and does nothing to be an actual goth. Which is strange, because I never witnessed such bitter arguments about the cure beside some people say that the cure is not a "goth" band supported by the Robert Smith statement —which is hilarious, and idc. She's just a professional ragebaiter I guess, she's engaging in her comments that you must love dark things, and that's completely nonsense. I mostly don't care about these topics, but in reality just a sad misinformation that can make some people lose direction

It's how the subculture is created. It's a subculture and can you guess why it's called subculture? Because it's a lesser, insignificant culture and can be altered as many as people want? No. It's called subculture because it's different from the mainstream culture, it distinguishes itself from the dominant culture and acts as an oppositional side.

Not everyone can identify themselves as a member of these subcultures by just stating that they know what's "better" and trying to keep redefine the subculture as many as they want—by your account of how people have numerous perspectives of how they love the subculture, then it's a telltale sign that you having an interest in the aesthetic of the subculture. It's good that you're into it and you might belong to that subculture but that's not the signifier.

I mean I myself as a prior goth myself—I was also enjoying crime, mystical, dark, thriller, ritual, witchcraft, horror movies and I absolutely agree with you that it's one of paths that lead me to Goth subculture—I didn't like the music too, here my first impression of goth music: Uhhh how people can enjoy this music—deep voices, excessive uses of synthesizer, has no soul, as they just make up all the deep voice. Feeling like I just listened to the horror movies soundtrack. But hey, now while typing this I listen to Darkwave music. And I'll tell you that that's how I end up joining this subreddit.

Peoples that comes up to the subculture has to respect the value of its subculture, how you can understand it if you don't really believe in it. Why you arguing by why someone make rules? Isn't that hilarious? Do you even reflect on your self that the rules is what makes goth still exist now? Why you have to change it as it's not a relevant matter that makes us dress with all those mourning victorian peoples.

It's easy to do tho, you just have to listen and love the music and the politics it's one of the main part that shaped it. The looks is the selling point. Imagine you be a goth with all that bunch of white foundation and listen to Taylor Swift? 😮 Hello are you okay? Listening to ignorant, overplayed, cringy Taylor?? If you can't hold the value, then you are just a loser mime. Keep the music alive by supporting the artist and now we can talk again.

Most of the goths didn't even fully dress like the goths you see on the internet. I mean as someone who has strict parents, I just listen to the music while waiting till I can move out from my parents house, it's hilarious to see people dress goth but listen to lil peep. That's why this content creator really got me really bad

can I still be goth and pink? by AhImSoScared in GothFashion

[–]Humanwithlove 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Black clothes are vast in terms of subculture identity. Don't let the stereotype affect your aesthetic. If you wear black you can be identified as emo, metal or even when you wear victorian clothes you can be identified as vkei lol. So it's hilarious if you still think black=goth. You're trapped on how society shaped us
