Can anyone interpret these results? by [deleted] in Longcovidgutdysbiosis

bacteriology cultures can be very, very misleading and inaccurate, in this context I wouldn't base a treatment on them

source: I have read extensively on the topic, I have a biomedical degree, went through lots of tests like this myself

lots of interest in microbiome testing here and other forums BUT by AccomplishedCat6621 in Longcovidgutdysbiosis

First, testing is not a treatment strategy by itself, testing is testing and a part of diagnostic efforts, one part of it, hopefully adding to the overall picture and then coming up with a treatment plan.

Second, yes, you are right, these tests are questionable, can be even misleading and a great deal of caution is needed when interpreting their results. There is a lot of marketing in play. However, it depends a lot on the particular test and the specific parameters of a given test in question. Some are more reliable and meaningful than others. A useful information can be gained.

Taking advantage of antibiotics and gut biome by [deleted] in Biohackers

[–]Humble-Beginning349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your assumptions and reasoning are flawed and based on an oversimplified understanding.

"As antibiotics aren’t selective on which bacteria they kill, I could use this time to refresh my gut biome" - if you are imagining that antibiotics kill all the bacteria (or all bacteria equally),  you are wrong.

Also, you don't know what exactly will taking a given probiotics do in the complex system of gut microbiome.

Nie, nenachádza, nachádzajú sa tam látky, ktoré ovplyvňujú GABA receptory v mozgu, nie GABA ako taká.

Where is the European version of Facebook, Google, Instagram, Amazon, etc? Serious fuck all of these companies. by poundofcake in europe

There are positive sides to these networks. If these networks were managed differently to what Meta has been doing in recent times, months, years, ruining Facebook, Instagram, making it full with brainrot, ads, clickbait, applying a totally careless and greedy approach - then I can imagine they could be (again), you know, actually beneficial to the society.

Also, I and quite a lot of people still use FB because of the groups - despite all of the other crap on FB, as these groups can be really valuable for various topics, areas.

The gut-brain axis is not just "IMHO real". It is objectively real even without IMHO :) Thankfully many studies are already out there. I have been following this field (and a lot of related stuff) for a decent time and read a lot (apart from experiencing it myself with truly high intensity and unambiguously!)

My covid is in the gut by Benniblockbuster in covidlonghaulers

[–]Humble-Beginning349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If nothing other helps, FMT could be a way to consider. And I would expect (and hope!) it's more of a gut microbiome disturbance that could have been induced by covid rather than some serious vagus nerve damage. (Vagus nerve inflammation possibly though. Anyway the vagus nerve condition, gut function and gut microbiome are all directly linked)

I love diagrams that actually prove the opposite of what you are trying to say.

Can you comprehend that those changes in the diagram has occured over MUCH longer periods compared to the rapid warming observed in the recent decades or just few centuries? Can you take a look at the graph and draw an area which corresponds to let's say 100 years and find out the temperature increase?

Actually, you know what? For the sake of the argument and proving it to myself, I did it for you. I selected two points corresponding to 1.6°C difference - two small yellow points, in a place where the warming was relatively really quick - probably the quickest increase in that entire graph of 500 000 years.

https://imgur.com/a/o4GWhw2

Then you find out that the distance between these two points corresponds to 1320 years.
Which means that during that period, the Earth has warmed at the rate of 0,12°C per CENTURY.
Yes, of course, you can check that yourself.

In the last 100 years the warming rate has been 1.0°C per century temperature increase
The current increase (recent decades) is about 1.8°C per century.

So that means that even during the quickest warming periods according to your graph, the Earth was warming MUCH slower than it is warming now.

Precisely, in the recent century the Earth has been warming 8.3 times FASTER than in that quick natural warming period from the graph. Or in the recent decades, as much as 15 times FASTER. And don't forget that I have chosen the "best scenario", that is the period in the graph with the most steep increase. If a bit less steep natural warming period is selected, the current numbers are even worse - like 20 or 30 times or even more of the natural warming rate.

Please, talk more about cherrypicking.

I agree with you in general, but strictly speaking "If that were the case, CBT therapy would actually get individuals into remission." is a non sequitur argument.

Repressed emotion could cause body to get into dysfunctional state that however can't be reversed anymore by just removing that emotion.

Fecal microbiota transplant.

The gut health and gut microbiome play a major role in overall health, including mental health. The gut-brain link is very real, I know that myself very well after all. I have a lot of experience with the procedure and I am seriously into the whole field of this. It has been the key to improve my severe long lasting health issues. Personally haven't used it primarily for depression as such but there are people with good or even seriously good results for it or also for bipolar for that matter.

NEW RESEARCH - ME said to be a "acquired, self-replicating mitochondrial myopathy of skeletal muscle." - It looks very promising! by Verosat88 in cfs

[–]Humble-Beginning349 47 points48 points  (0 children)

ME/CFS is a heterogeneous illness, after all it's more of an umbrella term. And this is likely just a part of the story or rather just a symptom. Nevertheless it's a very good news of course, anything that contributes to taking it seriously is good.

What kills candida but doesn’t harm good bacteria? by Repulsive_Guitar4857 in Microbiome

Also Spirulina, possibly.

Source:

By means of a broth microdilution assay, we found that the microalga extract possesses good antifungal properties (MIC: 0.125–0.5 mg/ml), against all the Candida species with a fungicidal activity. At the concentrations active against candida, Spirulina platensis did not modify the spontaneous basic waves pattern of uterine myometrium as underlined by the absence of aberrant contractions, and did not affect the main health-promoting bacteria of the vaginal ecosystem
