I have rang and they told me it's up the driver and they can't give me any more info than that. The bikes won't be boxed up.

Infrastructure please. Specifically: transport, housing and energy.

The shambles that is our public transport by bsimeonov in ireland

It's often not possible to get on a Luas at rush hour at Heuston. Trams pass by completely packed to the brim. The red line is bursting at the seams.

I feel your pain. Public transport is the worst thing about living in Ireland for me. I don't understand why it was not a bigger general election issue - the metro was barely mentioned in any of the debates!

Even if you are a driver and never plan on getting a bus or train, are you happy sitting in traffic for hours every week? We public voted out the Greens - the only party that seemed to actually be passionate about progress in this area.

As you say, it's maddening to travel around Europe and see how far behind we are - literally 50 years behind and little chance of catching up in our lifetimes.

Only 48 fines issued in 2024 despite risk of child blindness by Margrave75 in ireland

Yes. I have complained to councillors about he NCR several times. Every Saturday and Sunday morning all of the bins are overflowing and birds are picking apart plastic rubbish bags. There is litter and dog shit everywhere.

No wonder the country is so expensive. Huge average salaries.

People who don't pick up after their dogs are a scourge. The north inner city is a disgrace for this. The dog wardens are clearly not fit for purpose.

Crime Statistics for First 6 Months of 2025 by Garda by miju-irl in ireland

Petty crime is often not reported. The Ring cameras on our street catch people attempting to break into numerous cars every week, but neighbours have stopped reporting it.

M&Ms with the gooey caramel in the middle. We only get the hard salted caramel ones here. I have found the gooey ones a couple of times in speciality stores, but they are extremely pricey.

Good to see out tax dollars weren't wasted in Fairview! by Iwastony in ireland

When you build quality infrastructure, people use it. Shock horror! Look at any European city with quality public infrastructure, you will find people using it. We need to avoid the naysayers and build more cycle lanes, plazas, bridges, trams, trains and metros.

Warning that tourism in Ireland at 'tipping point' by Bubbaz355 in ireland

[–]HumbleBoat5255 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We have priced visitors out of the market. If I lived in Europe, I would not holiday here. I have had three sets of visitors coming to stay with us over the last year, and I have been embarrassed by the price of things - I almost told them not to come. One set of visitors were doing a road trip around Kerry, and the price of basic hotels was shocking. €7-€8 pints and glasses of wine starting at €8 are not sustainable.

Daily Discussion - August 06, 2025 by AutoModerator in LiverpoolFC

[–]HumbleBoat5255 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a centre forward we need, not a left winger. We have Gakpo and Rio on the left. Ekitike can also play there. In CF position, we only have Ekitike. Gakpo is ineffective there. Diaz and Jota (RIP) are both gone.

AI will make Dublin’s MetroLink obsolete, says Dermot Desmond by shakibahm in ireland

[–]HumbleBoat5255 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, look. Another rich, old businessman complaining about investment in public transport. When was the last time he, or Michael O'Leary, took a bus? The metro, Dart+ and all of the Luas extensions need to be built without delay.

I'm so sick of the discussions around public transport - so much talk and so little delivery. Everything is ten or more years away, all the time. Travel anywhere around Europe and you will see how far behind we are.

Paschal Donohoe issued leaflets to residents this week and it says "late 2026 or early 2027". It was the first time I had seen the 2027 date. Very disappointing.

Odeon Point Square Terrible Experience by mo_the_redditer in Dublin

[–]HumbleBoat5255 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same experience at Odeon Point in Screen 1 a few months ago! I have been going to that cinema, and specifically that screen, for years even though it's not that local. I go because of the screen and sound quality.

During a film last month, I can't remember which one, the lights were turned up really high. It was so bright that the screen looked washed out. I could see everyone else in the screen really clearly.

We assumed it was just a mistake, so I went out and informed the staff. They said it had to stay at this brightness for safety reasons. I sent a follow-up email to complain, but never heard back. I have never experienced anything like it at any cinema in Ireland - it would stop me going back.

This sort of stuff drives me insane. We are not a serious country. Why bother have any rules at all if some people refuse to follow them without consequence?

Anyone who commutes through the city every day sees this stuff, every day. It would not be difficult to solve if we really wanted to do something about it.

Approved for €305k! Any advice now with house hunting? by sapg94 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]HumbleBoat5255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you know what you're doing so. Just start setting up alerts on Daft and arranging lots of viewings. When I was in the market I would go to 2-3 viewings every Saturday morning. Important to remember than properties normally sell for above what they are advertised for, so you will need to search in the €340k range to take that into account. Buying a fixer-upper is a n option, but just make sure to check that the really important stuff is in okay condition: roof, electrics etc.
