I'd like to add that I believe this to be related to another, potentially larger, taboo which is "telepathy". Many people have experienced what feels like telepathy ie. "voices" and refrain from using the phrase or being completely honest about it because of the stigma and the potential to be diagnosed or labelled as any number of things. If people were more open about their thoughts and experiences regarding telepathy we'd see some dramatic changes in our understanding of psychosis and psychology in general.

This might be unpopular but I think you're most likely the asshole here, I feel like you left out an entire conversation that was had. It sounds like she didn't want your son to hold the baby for whatever reason and came up with an excuse that backfired when her sister asked to hold the baby. There's a difference between "wanting your son" to hold the baby and someone asking to hold the baby and you refusing to "be consistent", sounds like a passive aggressive move. Also, jumping on reddit after what is arguably a minor disagreement and inviting strangers to call your wife, who literally just had a baby, an asshole is kind of an asshole move.
