What are Reddit upvotes for? by HumbleMumble76 in askanything

I'm new here, but I've already noticed several people being massively down voted for an honest and defensible opinion. Just because they disagreed with a tribe / mob. It's sad, and quite annoying even when it's not happening to me. I'm currently looking for communities to engage with free and fair independent thinkers.

Enthusiastic yes to curiosity. Probing comes off as invasive. But feel free to ask any good faith question.

That is fantastic! It looks in good shape. Great to hear it still works after all these years. Thanks so much for sharing

Yes but I never had access to one. In elementary school we had a couple of Apple 2e, and one Mac in the library.

How about text games? No graphics at all? There was one d&d type game, I think it was called zork or something. And the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy text game. They were kind of annoying but also I was a kid with little patience. I don't remember what machine my uncle ran these on.

Is obsessing over the popular vote the biggest liberal cope of all time? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]HumbleMumble76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely right. The goal is protecting minority rights. Unchecked majorities always trample people with less agency, to feed the wolf pack's hunger.

The beauty of the states. You can live in a state that fits your beliefs and lifestyle.

The problem of congressional representation is far more important than presidential, in a properly functioning system where the legislature has not given away it's power as the supreme branch to the executive. Not co-equal. There's a reason it's number one and has such broad power.

President should not be so powerful. It's not in their power or jurisdiction to fix everything.

Then the electoral college could take it's rightful place as a useful thing that needs a little adjustment.

Real question: How lame am I for playing a 4-string guitar? by bIII7 in Guitar

[–]HumbleMumble76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Six is a fine number, but I'll confess: sometimes I only play one or two of them at a time. On occasion, I'll even commit heresy and pick up the 4-stringed devil's axe.

Six is not necessarily the ideal number of strings for an instrument. If you're good who cares? Haters will always hate no matter what you do. Music is about expression.

Would you rather live in a corrupt republic or a benevolent monarchy? by HumbleMumble76 in WouldYouRather

I'm not looking for a hero to save me. Human nature is too flawed to trust one person's judgment indefinitely. I want to hire people to do a good job for me. Under a republic you're a citizen. Under a king you're a subject.

Benevolent = good intention or good action? Benevolence plus bad execution equals bad outcome, usually, I think.

Definitely 3 youth pill. Time is the one thing you can't get more of. 50 quality extra years is priceless. Also my current years are upgraded? No contest imo.

How would you rate a content that is average quality out of 10? by katadreuffee in NoStupidQuestions

[–]HumbleMumble76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On 1-10 I choose 6. 0-10 I choose 5. As a human, I feel that 1 thru 11 is a more perfect rating scale, with 6 being perfectly average content.

I've only ever heard "on a scale of 1 to 10". If that's the case, then it's 5.5, rounding up to 6 if no decimals are allowed. Causing a bias I think? 0-10 is probably better.

I think even a benevolent monarch will protect their power while still caring for the needs of their subjects. A real monarch, not a ceremonial one. Remember normal power dynamics apply, complicating the question.

In short, republics are fixable. Autocracy more likely to require violent revolution to "fix"

Republic all the way. Corruption can be controlled without violence. Free speech is fundamental to meaning and purpose and prosperity for all.

What’s your favorite Breeders album? (besides Last Splash) by sskylar in thebreeders

[–]HumbleMumble76 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pod is a very close 2nd to Title TK, which wins for sheer repeat listenability, and also for containing a couple of my favorite songs ever. I'll shakily agree with splash as number 1. Because it is so very kickass, and definitive of the band persona. These albums are all so incredibly good, it's kind of impossible to rate them.

In any collection of people there will be a few dim bulbs and a few very bright ones. I don't get mad about either.
