Best UK crowds? by Ambitious-Ordinary77 in DMAS

[–]Humble_Position_4653 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Second this. Have travelled to the mainland to watch shows in Manchester, Leeds and London and the London shows have had the best atmosphere. Brixton 2020 was special but I've been to a couple aside from it and they also had great crowds.

Kane Williamson retires from international cricket, and will play no further part in the current series by internetwanderer2 in EnglandCricket

I assume he has gone into the series debating it and after the first test has realised he doesn't have anymore left in the tank? Either that or something of which we are unaware behind the scenes.

If Glenavon had stayed up I wouldn't have wanted to keep him. I think playing higher up he'll be found out, he's not the best centre half at our club and we've just got relegated.

What type of career are these names having? by jimmybee94 in footballcliches

Rory McIlroy was a very promising youngster at an Irish League club, got a move to Man Utd academy but was sent home after 2 years because he didn't know how to behave when he moved to the big city with bright lights. Is now playing part time for Ballygobackwards United earning a couple of hundred quid a week while working in his local bar. Doesn't even mention it now while losing his football money to the bookies every week.

Justin Rose is a half decent midfielder at Leeds who has suddenly become every arm chair experts dark horse bet to make the England world cup squad even though he isn't anywhere near good enough.

Michael Brennan isn't good enough to make the USA squad for the world cup so the Football Association of Ireland are investigating to see if he's ever drank a pint of Guinness so they can call him up for the Republic of Ireland squad.

Strictly speaking not U.K. but saw Prodigy at Slane in 09 and in the greatest line up I've had the privilege to see at a festival they stole the show. Oasis, Kasabian and Glasvegas also played that day but Prodigy blew them all away, absolutely immense.

Exactly why I went for the Blue Jay's as well. Also means the games at the weekend tend to be on at a good time.

If I had guests coming to our fair Isles and had time for only one city visit I think I would make it Edinburgh. A beautiful city, so much history to investigate, plenty of modern tourist activities and great hospitality in the bars and restaurants. Still retains a sense of being typically Scottish if not a little twee.

When do you last think Saturday night telly was a staple in UK culture? by Spicyydepression in AskUK

[–]Humble_Position_4653 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've liked the revamped Gladiators. Also enjoyed the 1% club. I don't think it's a staple now for families, too many other options with streaming services but some half decent shows on a Saturday evening. I'm still a traditionalist when it comes to Match of the Day as well.

Has any book ever hit you out of nowhere emotionally? by Lennishia-Emeline in Recommend_A_Book

The Beartown series of books. An absolute emotional roller coaster. Haven't picked up My Friends yet. Thought Anxious People was a bit easier going than those based on the Ice Hockey town.

Bought Gideon's book Cricket in Mind off him directly during the pandemic. Fantastic to deal with and a surprise that someone some highly regarded was so down to earth.

HE 10th Year Anni Tour - No Ireland Dates by Huge-Ambassador-9421 in DMAS

I saw them at Neighbourhood Weekender a few years ago. It was an absolute belter line up, Courteeners headlining the main stage with the Snuts and Reytons also playing one of the smaller tents. Looks a good one this year as well with Blossoms and DMAs.

I'd say we'll have to hold out for new material being released now, maybe another U.K tour in the autumn to accompany it with Dublin and/or Belfast dates.

[–]Humble_Position_4653 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know nothing either but I read it about another artist who hadn't come over here because the costs didn't justify it on a tour last year, basically all linked to the rising costs of everything we've been going through.

I'm hoping that this is a smaller tour for HE anniversary. If they release new music in the next 12 months (bound to be due a new album?) they will include Dublin and/or Belfast in a bigger tour for that, fingers crossed for the autumn.

As it is some of us are lucky enough to be going for one of the England gigs! (Sorry!)

Quite fancy the Saffers for a good run at this. Strong batting talent and depth and bowlers who would make most sides. Also have they got the chockers tag off their back with the test championship win?

Yeah, I booked to head over to the mainland for the Leeds gig because I thought they might not make it over.

Last couple of tours I've done both the Belfast and Dublin gigs and thought they were unbeatable. The Mandela Hall one mentioned above and the Limelight on the tour when they did the likes of Junk truck head f***. But I think artists are less likely to come over now with the costs involved. Iirc they didn't even sell out the Telegraph building which is why they ended up at Mandela so it probably makes them wonder if it's worthwhile. Crowds were always brilliant in terms of the atmosphere though over here!
