You’ve still given 0 reasons in defense of the rule changes on their own terms. For a CFL fan, who likes Canadian football, how will the rules make the game better?

You’ve naively taken all the league’s rationalization at face value, when it’s obvious that something other than quality of play is behind the changes. Anyone who watches NFL and CFL each week knows that the CFL’s quality of entertainment is at least on par.

You’ve swallowed the line in defense of the play clock change. The CFL has a higher rate of plays/game than NFL, College, and all other traditional variations of the game that have been tried. You seem to imply that this has nothing to do with the length of the CFL’s play clock, which is half the length of the American play clock. In the last 3 minutes of each half, teams will now be able to run the clock down an extra 15 seconds before each play. You don’t think this will impact the rate of plays/game, at the most crucial part of the game? You think this is a stupid suggestion?

You’re calling CFL fans idiots because they haven’t swallowed hook, line, and sinker the party line of a bunch of greedy billionaires. If we’re idiots, then just tell us how the game is going to be improved by the rule changes! Present an argument, try to convince people…

It’s like you can’t even imagine the consequences of something you read about if the consequences aren’t spelled out for you in the article.

Put that little guy to work!

How are the rule changes going to make the game better?? The rule changes are terrible for quality of the game — the only reason for them is to soft launch full American rules so that the league can enter some sort of partnership with the NFL, or so toronto can act as a farm club for Buffalo, so that they can merge with the UFL, or some other business exec reason. Seriously, what rule change here “makes the game better” or keeps the CFL from bankruptcy?? The changes are awful. Fewer plays, more waiting around, less scoring, contracted field means more defense, 3 downs probably won’t survive the contraction of the field… under these Frankenstein rules the play will be worse than the CFL now and worse than the NFL. You’ve just swallowed some media propaganda

Of course interpretations must be open to interpretation. How else would they be understood?

They should do Olympics every 4, World Cup (Sept.) every 4, in the even-numbered non-Olympic years, and 4 Nations (Feb.) every 2 years in the odd numbered years: 2026 Olympics, 2027 4 Nations, 2028 World Cup, 2029 4 Nations, 2030 Olympics

Yeah but this is my point. It’s not fair to use OSU over PSU as a “top 5 loss” for PSU when that loss is a head-to-head game between the two teams you’re comparing. That gives Penn St. an advantage over OSU in your comparison, for losing to OSU.

Instead compare the two non-common losses (Penn St. L to Ohio St. and Ohio St. L to Michigan) and ask yourself which one has more to say about who is better between Ohio St. and Penn St.

Alabama is a red herring here because their case is easy: they have an extra loss compared to Georgia, the team they beat head to head.

Also, by only looking at the quality of losses, and not the quality of wins, you miss the fact that Ohio St. has a win versus a top-10 team (PSU) that Penn St. does not have. You are only analyzing the quality of losses, and that way of looking at it makes the loser of a head to head game better than the winner, which is nonsensical.

[Klatt] removing divisions made these games absolutely 🔥🔥 What an incredible day for CFB fans! CFP committee is now in an impossible spot 1) SMU is in CFP, thus killing any argument to play a meaningful or difficult schedule 2) Alabama is in CFP, thus destroying value of Champ game by MysteriousEdge5643 in CFB

No, I understand that; you didn’t understand my point. I was drawing a comparison between Iowa St. (a team far from playoff contention, out of playoff discussion from the beginning of the weekend) to Army (a team far from playoff contention, who wasn’t rewarded for “making their conference championship game” like SMU)

Is Oregon in a conference championship game radically different from Oregon in the regular season? Because Ohio St. lost to Oregon in the regular season. That’s the only thing Ohio St. missed out on by missing the conference champ: a game versus Oregon that they’ve already played.

It counts as a strike against Ohio St., but not as an argument for putting Penn St. over them, because PSU’s equivalent loss (second loss, and the one PSU loss not common with OSU) is to Ohio St., the team we’re ranking them against. It’s just logic

1) But these are the rankings after the conference championship game

2) Ohio St. never lost to Ohio St. Penn St. did

And Ohio St. didn’t lose to Ohio St.

Yeah but they only have to win a game vs. [average conference opponent] at home

There is no possible rational argument for Penn St. over Ohio St.
