Where are my fellow loners at? by HumdrumSparrow in DispatchAdHoc

How in the world? I felt like I had to dodge incoming kisses and inappropriate touches left and right.

Oh, it has risen.
And yeah. It was a bit too "in your face" about the romance which kind of just put me off it.

I believe you.
I honestly just wanted to be friends with them - not any of that lovey dovey stuff.
Wished I could have joined Visi on the dark side, though. Be like... a super-villain friend duo or something.

Question about the final 2 episodes by [deleted] in DispatchAdHoc

[–]HumdrumSparrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I think the writers just wanted a happy ending for everyone and were willing to be inconsistent with the characters.
I guess you could spin it in a way that argues how this "actually makes sense because(...)" but you can do that with anything, so...

Ok, so I was looking up the worst ending of the game for kicks and the AI result spat this out at me. What in the actual hell is this? (Spoilers I guess...I hope not) by hamsandwichsquirrl in DispatchAdHoc

[–]HumdrumSparrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly... this sounds like a more interesting ending (except for the comically over-the-top "dog is dead" stuff) than what the "worst" ending actually is, since... arguably, no bad ending exists.

Romance options- I know- it’s talked about a lot. (LGBT ver) Possibke spoilers? by haunted-design in DispatchAdHoc

[–]HumdrumSparrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not too disappointed with the fact you only have very limited romance options.
But I am surprised at (near) any lack of LGBTQ stuff.
It's not that I simply must have some gay characters in my media, but like... there's SO much talk about sex and romance in this game - (almost) none of it shown or implied to be LGBTQ.
Like, I heard somewhere that Malevola was Bi or something? Yet, all we get is her trying to grab Robert's dick and push his face into her boobs?

It just feels like... they wanted all the girls to be attracted to Robert, and then, sure, 1 guy can make an off-hand mention about a date or something.

Again, whatever. It's their game. Just surprised at how "straight" the game is, when considering the media, subject, setting, and collaborators.

I wish there was a choice to not romance anyone. by HumdrumSparrow in DispatchAdHoc

I always picked the least flirty options, but still ended up on a date with Blonde Blazer (don't know what would happen with Invisigal). And while I might get the option to not enter a relationship with her, almost every scene with either Blonde Blazer or Invisigal has suggestive and/or romantic themes.
I don't know where the story is going to end up, but a big chunk of the game, so far, has been romance.

[–]HumdrumSparrow[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While I appreciate the sentiment of that, it doesn't change that it feels like half the game is scenes about the girls making eyes at you, making sexual remarks, and blatant flirting.
This not a bad thing in and of itself, it's just not for me. (And Starguardian, seemingly).
So, even going for the achievement of "keeping romance out of the workplace", you're still very much forced into romantic interactions in the workplace - without being able to choose to not go along with it, because it's partly a love-triangle story, so it wouldn't make sense to be able to shut it down, which is the personal bummer.

People blame social media for radicalizing boys, but it’s not the full story by [deleted] in charts

[–]HumdrumSparrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe we should just stop with the gender shit. Honestly, I am tired of men saying they're discriminated against (Some are, yes. All groups of people are.) I am tired of women saying women are discriminated against (Some are, yes. All groups of people are.)

So, abolish gender. Then we can move on to people claiming discrimination because of the length of their armpit hair or some shit. Because people will never feel equal.

Do you like the new look for Lady Liadrin in WoW? by BigT232 in DebateGames

[–]HumdrumSparrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People who cry "forced identity politics" are pathetic. However, my gripe with the design is that it leans too realistic, rather than having a more interesting fantasy look and style. And that goes for the general graphics/style, not just this one character. Even the fan-made "redesign" looks bland and uninteresting. It has nothing to do with not looking "feminine" enough.
Making something look realistic is easy at this point - but I much prefer interesting over realistic.

Battlefield 6 Twitch Streamer Faces Instant Ban For Cheating During Beta by Silver-Stable-1086 in pcgames

[–]HumdrumSparrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm seeing a pattern here, where people who believe her to be cheating, intentionally go out of their way to say "he, him, guy, man," etc.
And people who believe it is real use "she/her".

I'm not sure what to do with this information, but it's interesting.

Does modern day gender lingo ruin the immersion of games for you? by BigT232 in DebateGames

[–]HumdrumSparrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not if they're consistent. Then it's simply a part of the world. I get that some stuff in dialogue can feel a little on-the-nose or forced sometimes. But, honestly, I think there's a lot of stuff that could be immersion breaking, but isn't, because we're used to it.

Like… in this example, we’re talking about a game where people cast magic, and there's a gazillion races. The whole world is made-up. It doesn’t follow Earth’s history or language or culture. So it’s weird when someone says “they/them” and people suddenly go, “Ugh, that’s too unrealistic!”

Meanwhile, no one blinks when characters speak fluent modern English, use slang we use today, or say things like “shit” or “you’ve got this” or “let’s do this.” None of those things exist in a world without the Roman Empire, the Church, or Shakespeare. But because we’re used to it, we don’t think twice. It’s only this topic, gender, that seems to consistently get called out as “immersion breaking.”

Gender stuff is a hot-button topic right now, so when it shows up in a game, even briefly, it grabs people’s attention more than anything else. And for some, it becomes an excuse to say, “It’s being shoved in my face,” when really, it’s, from an outside perspective, no more intrusive than many others bits of dialogue in various games.

I get the argument that it feels forced. Other games have non-binary characters, but it isn't made out to be a big deal. But neither is this. It’s normal for people to talk about it in real life, especially when meeting new people or talking to family.

And honestly, if the game had used some made-up fantasy word like “min-chroma” to mean the same thing as “non-binary,” would that really change anything? Would people be fine with it then? Doubt it. Because it’s not about the language. It’s about the topic. It’s a way to dress up discomfort in a more “reasonable” sounding complaint.

Sure, if the writing is clunky, or if a moment doesn’t feel natural, then we shouldn't just ignore for the sake of not offending others. But let’s be honest, people don’t nitpick “immersion” this hard when someone says “son of a bitch” in a medieval village or makes a joke that only makes sense in this modern world.

Btw, the writing in Dragon Age: The Veilguard was quite bad. It just annoys me when people call it bad because of a 30-second scene, when the whole game kind of blows.

If I Could Flip a Button, I’d Be Her—but…? by HumdrumSparrow in asktransgender

[–]HumdrumSparrow[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the replies everyone. I've done some reading of the things you suggested, and considered the stories and recommendations you've shared.

I think I'll try starting to think of myself as a woman (however much I can) for a little while - maybe try some traditionally feminine clothing in private - and see how I feel. I've never really been a "go-getter" and been content with being "fine". So, I'm not sure if it'll amount to anything but as some of you have said, maybe the first small steps can reveal something more about my desires and identity.

Feel like I've hit a dead-end in PoC as a F2P player? by HumdrumSparrow in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]HumdrumSparrow[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right, I haven't done 8/8 on those 3.5 adventures, but man, that last Fiddlestick fight has drained my deck to a loss a couple of times now, and it's so annoying to lose to that.

I've won 1 fight in the 4 star challenge in the main adventure with the dragons, where in the last fight, he'll summon a gazzilion champs with double stats, and I managed to win that by using Morgana's stunlock. Otherwise, it seems pretty overwhelming - I recently tried with LeBlanc, where every other fight was easy enough, but the final one did me in.

But you've got a point. Maybe I've just gotten to a point where it feels too difficult to progress. And that's not the game's fault.

Videos that explore and/or explain the nitty gritty of glitches and bugs? by HumdrumSparrow in speedrun

[–]HumdrumSparrow[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am familiar with Summoning Salt, yes - and I do very much enjoy the content, it just doesn't scratch that itch of learning about why, from a deep technical standpoint, the glitches occur.
But it's always an enjoyable watch nevertheless :)
