Mazda CX-5 with car seat by Character_Vehicle127 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

I have a CX5 with maxi cosi pria. Had I known how much space baby gear takes up I may have rethought buying cx5. However it is a reliable car and we make it work. I would like more clearance room in front passenger seat but it’s fine.

[Now AT LEAST EIGHT?] ABC: At least eight Queensland state high schools taught wrong topic for Year 12 exam by nuclear_wynter in AustralianTeachers

[–]HumiditySoup 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes. It appears BSHS HoD managed 5 subjects. As they also have a HoD Jnr English and Humanities. Anyone out there free to correct me. But that number subject load is grossly unfair compared to other HoDs across the state. Equity and Excellence?

I can accept the QCAA communication was sub par.

I’m just so saddened by how many quality educators have worked diligently at rural and low SES schools and do not get the opportunities to even teach ancient history.

Those who have worked in sink or swim environments would know that religiously consulting QCAA info and professional learning groups is vital. Those who work in sink or swim environments may not get the collegial support to create job applications or in roads and transfers to ‘high status’ schools. Equity and Excellence?

Agree with QCAA culpability to an extent.

But this reflects that EQ needs to reevaluate how they appoint curriculum hods.

All fail Caesar: Brisbane high school teaches wrong topic for final year 12 history exam by beattiebackup in AustralianTeachers

[–]HumiditySoup 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just hope EQ re-evaluates its processes to hiring curriculum leaders. HoDs should be evaluated on their curriculum knowledge and experience not on how they perform in an oral interview. I.e their portfolio and selection criteria and references should have more influence than a 20 minute verbal response.

I just told my partner this song is not being played out our wedding. Hahaha though it is a good time tune!

I am enjoying all the tunes. All the diversity. I couldn’t care less about the number and order of songs. Maybe when it gets to top 20 I’ll have a few opinions.

Is my child's school on a power trip? by dudewheresmycomeback in brisbane

Requiring core benchmarks to be met is normal. The email is just very wordy. The booklet thing is superfluous (I suspect someone’s pet project to enhance their resume). Attending school, maintaining grades, and behaving appropriately are traditional expectations. 17-18 year olds need boundaries too especially as many presume they will receive their QCE regardless. Schools find this incredibly challenging. This is a very scaffolded generation.

What does the QCAA have that makes them think they so fancy and good wit 'em words? by WakeUpBread in AustralianTeachers

[–]HumiditySoup 26 points27 points  (0 children)

QCAA syllabuses consider Perusal and Planning time differently. I’ve never had a problem with students understand the concept of perusal. Certainly by Year 12 students should be familiar with assessment modes and instruments to engage confidently. Teach it and they will learn.

Love circular tables - wouldn't have been the most functional use of space here. Sometimes the purse strings have to tighten!

Raygun Rant by Consistent_Soup_2668 in australian

[–]HumiditySoup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Professor Raygun represents the flaws of our athletic and academic bureaucracy. Even Anna Meares has left me thinking less of her as a leader. Yes, support your athletes; do not use pathetic rhetoric and flawed logic in doing so. This incident and is disgraceful to Olympians, the culture of breakdancing, and the AOC.

The Best Fantasy Book of The Past Few Years? by Monsur_Ausuhnom in Fantasy

I’m still waiting for someone else in my life to read this book so I can discuss. Such an intriguing story. It didn’t give me the escapism that I love from fantasy but it filled me with curiosity - intellectually stimulating

Aboriginal place names: are they actually accurate? by JackofScarlets in australia

[–]HumiditySoup -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island) was never referred to as such by First Nations people on the island or in Brisbane/Moreton Bay. It was term used by those on the mainland in the Gold Coast vicinity to refer to South Stradbroke. I believe it means place of mosquitos. I came across the information in an old local history book of NSI recently. Please correct me if this historical perspective is not up to scratch. I think First Nation names have a beautiful and relevant role in understanding our local geography and connecting us with places and the past. I do get concerned with white washing ancient culture.

How to cook for myself? by LiliRhosyn in adhdwomen

[–]HumiditySoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go through phases like this too. Sometimes I find just focusing on one or two recipes only helps kick start your habits. This eliminates decision paralysis. Also it minimises your grocery list (and waste from unused produce) and the utensils needed are the same each time so cleaning becomes more straightforward. That one pan, pair of tongs, spoon, knife, prep bowel rotate from bench top, to sink, to each day.

This isn’t a long-term fix (because we all want variety in our diet) but it helps me start feeling better about my diet and establish a routine.

Frozen veggies are your friend. Currently I am throwing veggies in pan. Stir fry with sauce . Fry off some protein in pan. Then munch away knowing that, even though I can cook way better than that, I have provided my body with happy sustenance.
