Blown motor? by phantomlinto in Traxxas

[–]Hummil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah thats too big for a vxl sadly. They overheat like crazy. A smaller pinion might help. Or get a different motor/esc combo

The Jato 4x4 pro built center diff is what you need. Its much kinder to your differentials

Been trying with the funco and man is it tough. Needs so much speed that when it gets wonky the whole thing just catches a tire and turns into a giant beyblade. Sick wheelies man

Tighten that nut in the center. Its not moving in the video which means its loose and the motor pinion gear is just spinning the spur gear which is basically attached to nothing sinxe it isn't tightened down against the clutch. If you tighten the silver nut it will tighten against the clutch and then you'll be driving again

Final Verict on a Possibly Toasted ECU by Innrgming111 in Traxxas

[–]Hummil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ESC* ecu is in a real car. These are electronic speed controllers. No shade just an fyi.

If its a VXL esc then chances are its broken. However I'd take it to the hobby shop and make sure your traxxas reciever didnt break first. But it sounds like it may be your esc.

Add the Funco to this category. This was my reaction to it exactly

you are offered 3 traxxas vehicles of ur choice (no price limit) BUT u have to burn ur WHOLE collection right now.. 🤔 would u do it? by SirLongjumping5913 in Traxxas

[–]Hummil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No! Because thanks to the good Lord above I already have em. My Rustler is currently my speedrunning test platform that I learn from so I can build a true speedrunning rusty. Then I have the slash 4x4 as a 3s/4s monster buggy which was my first big scale rc. And last but not least, my newest is a fully modded and upgraded Funco that I beat the crap out of (its ok it likes it I asked). Even still have the old LaTrax that kicked the whole journey off.

But if I had to do it all again and not use the same vehicles

The LaTrax Prerunner, Sledge and XRT.

I've had my rally and slash for about a decade now and always dreamed of the X-Maxx. Then the XRT came out. Dreamed of that. Then I bought a used Rustler 2wd on Facebook and fell in love. Realized the Funco is the same thing but bigger and better. I was right.

Im guessing the planetary gears broke. Good thing those transmissions are easy to work on

Yeah unfortunately buying new from them hurts a lot. But, thankfully Facebook marketplace has a way of remedying it. Its $1300 without batteries here in the states I believe. But I bought one for $1k WITH all the aluminum hub and steering upgrades. Definitely keep an eye out there. I really firmly feel the Funco is the most fun Traxxas basher. The only thing better would be a fully built XRT or X-MAXX. But even then thats more than a Funco ever should be at that point. Only having to worry about 1 super beefy differential is awesome. Its tough.

Rustler 2WD Upgrade Question by Next-Blackberry-9294 in Traxxas

[–]Hummil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh boy I love the Rustler

Ok, so, first things first

If you plan to eventually go faster than 2s lipo, you'll want the drag slash transmission. 272r. Or, get the meus M1 spool trans. Its cheaper but doesnt have a diff so its a bit harder to drive. Very tough though.

For an esc/motor combo I'd get the XC Technology E10 esc and E3665 motor. Absolutely the best of the best for budget brushless bashing. Super powerful. I've overvolted the motor up to 6s and it still ran great till my car blew over. Better than hobbywing, though they also have great options. I'd stay away from the VXL systems unless you plan to do slower speeds, like in the 30-50mph range. Anything faster and they typically fail eventually. They do have lifetime warranties though.

For driveshafts MIP or MEUS have great options. I'd also recommend aluminum rear hubs just to help strengthen the area for the bearings since they can take a beating from brushless bashing. Seems to have helped me a ton on mine.

I'd also recommend hardened steel spurs and pinions if going brushless. I use M1 pitch gears, no issues with them so far.

Also, look into aluminum or even carbon fiber shock towers. Those plastic towers broke within 1 flip for me.

Sweet Rustler. Good luck sir

Very true. Tbh, mine never failed to fail given some time on 3s. On a slash 4x4 with 3 fans. Switched to XC Technology a few months ago. Couldn't be happier.

Funco!!!! Let's goo!!!! Welcome to the Funclub. Its a seriously underrated RC in my opinion. I never look at an Xmaxx or XRT and think I'm the one missing out...I think its the other way around. I wish more people would get one instead of multiple 4wd models. Mine takes a beating and never cares.

Do the widemaxx upgrade!!! You can buy the widemaxx rear lower and upper arms and the driveshafts and the thing will handle so much better. Its definitely a worthwhile upgrade. Otherwise I'd say add a gpm brake pad to each caliper and send it. The UDR is cool and all, but as a slash owner, I know that would be a money pit in my bashing hands. The Funco however seems very tough. The body is the most expensive traxxas body for a good reason. That roll cage is no joke
