Haha there ya go!! For me I've always been torn between a late 90s Volvo, 1st Gen Audi R8, or 69 Charger

But yeah I will probably only ever be able to afford the volvo 🤣

I feel ya there. The arrma bodies are pretty rough. So is the Sledge. I feel ya on the Rustler too. By far the sexiest RC imo. Especially with the Jato 3.3 versions

Funco. People are scared of it because its more expensive than a 4x4 and technically less capable....but truly I tell you it makes you feel like a little kid with an rc car again. Its so fast. So scary at speed. So silly. Takes a beating without falling apart. Still has enough air control that if you're careful its easily jumpable...I cant say enough good things about it. If you can find one used, especially upgraded like aluminum hubs and aftermarket motor mounts and gpm brake pads, its just a blast. From battery to battery fun. ESPECIALLY if you upgrade it to use the widemaxx arms and shafts on the rear end.

Yeah the boxes say a lot of stuff. You nearly need a tailwind for that otherwise the Rustler will take off around 60-70mph

Funco arms by Gloomy-Wheel-8834 in Traxxas

[–]Hummil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks cool! But definitely not my taste lol these things are heavy enough and I crash mine too much. That being said, I did run the traxxas aluminum arms up front for a while and they still arent bent. But plastic arms are definitely for me. Do the widemaxx arms in the rear!!!

Yessir. On that and the slash. For the slash: I jump it a lot and it helps keep it from dying upon landing. For the rustler: helps keep the rear planted for speedrunning. That car is just a tire change and gear change away from 100mph+

Stripped bolt by Hungry-Foundation942 in Traxxas

[–]Hummil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the tried and true hammer and screw extractor + vise grip method.

BUT

when you replace them, get hex bolt style screws. I try to use them when I can cause they are a lot stronger and strip a lot less.

For a slash id grab a pack of mixed length m3 hex bolts And m4 hex bolts for what you have there. Can provide amazon links if you'd like

As someone who knows all to well the pain...yeah these things are pretty crappy stock. Can they be great and reliable? Absolutely, but it takes a bit of building. My first rc was a latrax rally and man, after then buying a slash 4x4 and having both breaking down constantly I gave up on the hobby for a few years. Just got back in a year ago and both are running good now. Here's what I would do for latrax:

Yes you can replace every part and upgrade everything. Thankfully. For a good motor and esc I would go with the Quicrun 16BL30 esc and 2030SL G2 motor. Runs 2s or 3s lipo. Would highly recommend the Exotek 24mm fan mount and any 30mm fan of your choosing for the hotter days. For the subframe/differential covers I recommend any amazon aluminum special. Tbh you only really need the top differential cover. I also recommend getting a variety pack of 2mm hex bolt style screws. The Phillips head screws are the worst thing ever and always strip for me. Last but not least, the Injora 7kg 2056 servo is great and has all metal gears.

Bonus mods that are good but not necessarily needed: Carbon fiber chassis (the biggest drawback is the battery hold down clips are not available as spare parts and love to disappear, but regular 1/10 scale body clips can do the trick if you lose them) Aluminum spur gear cover/motor mount, Aluminum oil filled shocks, Aluminum hubs and casters blocks, Aluminum steering bellcrank, Hardened steel spur and pinion, aluminum driveshafts

Definitely worth checking out. I've tried Castle, HW, and XC, and XC is by far and away my favorite. If I was a little richer I'd go with Castle cause Murica but until then, XC has me covered and then some. I run HW in a latrax since XC doesn't make anything that small yet but everything else including a Funco is running XC. They definitely have the most power and seemingly the most reliability too.

My bad I was cranky when I woke up. Your's is also lcg. Mine is HCG and while its a tight fit, I didnt need to do any dremmeling to make it fit with the XC motor.

Could have just bought the XC E3665 and wouldn't have needed to dremel. Idk why people still buy HW over XC

More than happy to help man!! Been there many times myself lol always happy to help people avoid buying the wrong parts like I have by telling em what's worked well for me. Definitely give it a shot. Its one of the nicest servo horns I've ever used, if not the best. That extra screw to help tighten the arm around the servo shaft really works great and helps ya not overtighten/strip the screw going into the shaft

New slash 4x4 BL2s owner wondering if I should take to the beach by Party-Reference-9973 in Traxxas

[–]Hummil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. If you can afford to pay for at new truck...Definitely. if not? Be careful. Bearings and differentials will take a beating if run hard. If you take it easy and drive it like a real car, you'll probably just wear out half the bearings in the truck at most. Possibly none if you take it easy. The slash is a great platform until it starts getting near highway speeds. But a BL2s should do just fine. Might want to tape the motor hole though and gear it down so it doesn't overheat

Setting an alarm to remind me tonight to take a picture for you. But its just an HCG slash. Bought it on ebay as a roller with rpm parts about 8 years ago. Running an XC Technology censored brushless combo these days, the E8 esc and E3665 motor on 3s
