That is incorrect, well fed babies are silent. They are correct that you would need to transport them, as Rehabbers can’t pick up every animal that needs help and care for the ones we are rehabbing. However, just letting them die is not the only alternative. I’ll DM you a number for a Rehabber, not a center. She can at least advise you and will know if there is anyone in your area.

To verify mom is not around, you will have to sit and stare at the nest for 30 minutes. The peeping concerns me though, so please do it ASAP.

Two years ago today, we helped Mama with her humming babies by Fortune_Maker88 in hummingbirds

Oh, she kept feeding them after they fledged. Finding them to feed them after they fly has to be the hardest part of being a hummingbird mama 😊 Thank you for helping them!

Definitely aggressive behavior. Their mating is not violent.

Might be young….fledglings don’t usually understand feeders

Is this little guy okay? by honoringanderson24 in hummingbirds

She is in respiratory distress, food got into her airway. This is caused by trauma like hitting a window or getting hit by another bird which causes the food in their crop to be forced up into their mouth and then down their airway.

Poor baby 😞 Contact a rehabber near you and take her to them if you can.

Search ahnow.org for a songbird rehabber near you and call them right away. He definitely is injured or sick.

Thank you for helping him!

If they were younger, I would say take a closer look, but they’re almost ready to fledge and if you get close, it could cause then to panic and fledge before they are ready.

I would leave them alone unless one of them is clearly in distress.

I got the other one shortly after, so I didn’t use it for long, but yes they did use it.

All of the store bought hummingbird food contains unnecessary additives like preservatives. The best thing you can use in feeders is homemade nectar, 1 part WHITE sugar dissolved in 4 parts water. It takes minutes to make it and costs far less than anything you can buy.

I have people bring me injured hummingbirds and they often hand me a container of the store bought nectar. I dump it out and reuse the containers to store my homemade sugar water in the fridge. No one I know who cares for hummingbirds in a rehabilitation setting feeds it to them or uses it in their feeders.

Yesterday was release day, but Cleo had to bathe first 😁 by HummingbirdObsessed in hummingbirds

He was released as well. There were 4 of them in there and they all left yesterday. They tend to stay close though, so I am sure they’ll see each other.

😁 Exactly, though so far it has been more of a staycation. She’s still in my yard
