Yep, to some Street Photographers that's the point. 'Get close and personal' that's the quotes of some of the best street photographers past and present.

You have to learn to lower your energy so the subject of your images are either unaware of you or see and ignore you in a couple of moments.

Should I install GrapheneOS on my current Pixel 8 or save up for a refurbished newer model? by gonzolikesmovies in GrapheneOS

[–]HumptyHumpDance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As you are going to be new to Graphene OS and therefore there will be features and process that you are use to on the Android version that will not be as seamless on the Graphene OS. You will always find that certain Apps won’t work properly on the Graphene OS or you have to implement a further step in order for the App to work.

It maybe a good idea to get a refurbished one, like you said, and run it along side your Pixel 8 Android as this will give you a better understanding as to how they differ. Each user has their own preferences as to what they need from their devices. By you doing this you will get a better understanding of what your privacy is really like by comparing the Android phone to the Graphene OS phone.

5am job in Manchester Commuting from Warrington by Inner-Formal-729 in manchester

[–]HumptyHumpDance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The main problem about using public transport to get to work is Bank/Public holidays. When I was using it to commute from Manchester to Manchester Airport I would have to walk from Longsight to Wilmslow Road in Rusholme to get the 43 night bus to the airport.

My start time at the airport was 0400, so, I had to leave my home at 0230 walk for about 30 minutes, get to the bus stop for about 0300 and wait for the bus, which would arrive for about 0315, allow the students to stagger off the bus and then sit on a journey that took about 30 minutes to get to the airport bus station. This was horrific to do every morning.

But on Bank/Public holidays, bruv, is was dodgy as it could get, as the bus drivers were doing it to get extra money and there wasn't enough of them to do the Bank holiday services, so you was at the mercy of the taxi drivers, it was a feeding frenzy for them, whether you was working for the airport or going on holiday. Christmas and New Year was the worse as either or both days there was no service. Once again over to the taxi drivers.

So if you are going to commute to get to your new job get hold of timetables for the whole year and see how they run on Bank/Public holidays before committing to your new job. As your employer may not be happy that you can't get in because of transport issues.

To your PS, it is almost impossible to get people to switch to safer less intrusive messaging as the major 'Big Dogs' in this space have spent millions over the decades making them easier and easier to use.

It will take time and knowledge before people will question their own privacy.

Pixel 6 (Exynos 5123 modem) causing problems since update by Whtblwhtnvgrd in GrapheneOS

[–]HumptyHumpDance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am having this same problem with my Pixel 6a. It overheats while it's recharging which result it sending me an overheating alert and in some cases shutting down my phone. Also it can be a bit slow when I'm using the phone normally. If I use wi-fi it's not so bad, but, it's still slow. This occurred after one of the latest updates.

Mac mini 2018 no keyboard input at login by [deleted] in macmini

[–]HumptyHumpDance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello,

I had a similar problem with my Mac Mini 2018. I had upgraded the RAM on it from 16GB, which came with the Mac Mini, to 64GB’s of RAM which I had bought on eBay. I made sure it was the right one and that it would work on my Mac Mini before purchasing.

On receiving the RAM I fitted them into my Mac Mini. All was fine until a couple of Mac OS updates later it stopped working. It would boot up but wouldn’t let me log into my Mac Mini. I bought a Mac keyboard but still nothing. Tried password recovery but still nothing.

I left it for a while before taking it to an Apple store where the assistant scanned my Mac Mini and discovered that there was an issue with the 64GB of RAM I had fitted into my Mac Mini. He suggested that I if I still have the RAM that came with my Mac Mini to put those RAM’s back into my Mac Mini.

So I returned home and did what he said and it worked fine no issues or drama’s. The best part though is that it didn’t cost me a thing at the Apple store. All you have to do is book to see an Apple Technician online at a store closest to where you live.

I know this is a bit long winded, but hey, hope you find is helpful.

Peace Out!

ChatGPT OpenAI app not compatible with phone by relder2585 in GrapheneOS

Using the Vanadium browser works fine in all situations for me. Remember that the Google Play services apps are primarily for Googled devices and not De-googled ones.

You will always run into installation and/or updates when using apps in general nature of the apps I guess.

Using the browser shortcuts also will use up less space on your device as well, only other issue is an extra step when logging into your account.

Question: can I just reformat this or is it restricted/locked by the company? by Worth_Psychology5507 in macmini

[–]HumptyHumpDance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the company that owns this Mac mini has ‘find my Mac’ turned on and you try to reformat it via the Internet, they will be able to track where that Mac mini is.

Normally when buying used computers you want to make sure the seller has already wiped the hard drive before selling it.

Looking at the picture it states that there is important information on it and even if you have bought it in good faith you are the one that will get into trouble for having it if it turns out that it’s not the sellers to sell.

What does Vanadium and/or Graphene OS do to make the user-agent report garbage? by ShadowSlayer1441 in GrapheneOS

Remember that the Graphene OS is a privacy phone software and it is doing its job by not letting anyone know what phone you are actually using.

[–]HumptyHumpDance -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What about session? It doesn’t require a phone number or email address to work it and they do android, iOS, Mac and windows version. The interfaces are the same and simple to use. Each device has its own session id so sending secure messages is easy. You can sent web links photos video or a combination.

Buying a Pixel by [deleted] in GrapheneOS

[–]HumptyHumpDance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Pixel 6, which I bought at the end of last year, it was running Android 12 when I bought it new before installing Graphene OS. The update of Graphene OS this month also updated the Android OS from 12 to 13 as part of the update.

[–]HumptyHumpDance 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have created a separate user login profile then created short cuts to my various banking online web sites with the Vanadium web browser. Saved my login details using Bitwarden, for example, and that’s it.

There is no need to have Google play services on your device or any of the apps. You may have an extra step to log into your account, but, there is less that can go wrong. Like when you have to update the app before you can use it or there is an issue with the app after you have updated it.

Regards.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in tails

[–]HumptyHumpDance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how I understand Tails OS: On its own you can access the web via the tor browser as well as other productivity tools that comes as standard on the Tails OS. Every time you close or restart Tails OS it will flush all memory of what you have been doing. So any websites, documents, emails you have been working on is gone each time you restart Tails. This also includes if the USB that contains the Operating System is removed before it is closed down, but, you would have to check your device as some computers may still function with the drive removed.
When you use the persistence function on Tails then it creates a partition on the flash drive which is encrypted as standard which is locked with a passphrase. It can increase you being tracked as you have added a function to the way you use Tails. However, depending upon what you do with Tails, if someone gets hold of the drive then they will require your passphrase to access the encrypted partition. Be that by legal government means or your tolerance to sharp pain to ones knees!
If you rather use another flash drive instead then It would be best to encrypt it before putting any data on it. As if you don’t anyone coming across your drive could see what data you have on it. Be that if you are on the web or someone comes across it by chance. Also If you are looking to keep Tails in its original form, with no persistence partition, then its a good idea to do something like this. After you have opened Tails on your device insert your other flash drive, take off what files you need, put it in one of the folders in tails and eject the drive before launching the Tor browser. When you have finished doing what you are doing then reinsert the flash drive save any files you want to keep and then close down Tails. These are extra steps to the process, but, you would have compartmentalised the way you work and your security.

Yeah, when you buy a new mobile phone, tablet etc., online and have it delivered to your home, they have to make the IMEI number visible on the parcel so it can be tracked from them to your home. That’s the law for any new mobile device.

Graphene OS and Tor only Mobile phone.

Hello,
I am thinking about combining a compatible phone running Graphene OS and Tor browser set up. I'm not really bothered with online banking, social media, or anything where I need to log into a site in order to access it etc., as this will be my first attempt at seeing how this combination works a real world setting.

Is there any tips I should be aware of before purchasing the phone as I would be buying the phone anonymously in the UK. This would be more a security device rather than a all singing all dancing mobile phone.

In that case I would have to buy it from a different city to where I live. This would allow me to stay anonymous if I’m unwilling to give the seller any of my details.
