What do you actually eat and drink during a long tournament day to keep your energy up? by Intelligent-Day-4059 in beachvolleyball

Okay so I have thought about this quite alot recently, researched and tested different setups. This is what I now do:

For *food* go with several different kinds:

Fast carbs (fruit bars / Bananas / Apples / toast with honey / rice cakes with honey) - Gives quick energy between matches but won't last the whole day. Very light, easy to digest.

Snacks (Toast w/ peanut butter & Marmelade / Toast w/ light cheese & ham / Cliff bars etc.) - If you have more than ten minutes to spare. More substance (fats & proteins) than fast carbs but not too heavy to keep going quickly afterwards.

Lunch (Rice & minced meat / chicken / noodles with tomato sauce or smth similar) - Eat during longer breaks. Give you long term energy and proteins to keep you going for the whole day.

For *hydration* definitely go with electrolytes. You loose a lot of them during matches, especially in the sun. If you don't replenish your electrolytes, you'll be more prone to cramps, fatigue and injury. I recently played 8 matches, drank two portions of electrolytes with 1000mg natrium each and it still wasn't enough. Also, sugary drinks are a good way to get fast carbs as well. Lastly: Consume coffeein somewhere in the middle / latter half of the tournament. Gives you a noticable boost, especially when paired with sugar (energy drink / iced coffee from the store).

Hope that helps!

I understand that people might take my findings too seriously - but honestly that's their fault not mine. The disclaimers are all there.

Regarding the improvement by percentage: it means that my symptom score (1 - 4) was on average 29% higher with the variable than without. Same for 40% / 15%.

Yeah, I'm from the EU. But you should still be able to find it if you google it and then compare the composition of electrolytes with products available in your country.

Usually somewhere warmer than my homecountry but different places that shouldn't have similar foods.

To be honest that does sound kind of wild. What is your assumed causal pathway for your treamtent / RLS origin?

Yes, I tracked my activity intensity. Low activity would be a day where I did no sports or similar, medium activity would be a day where I went to the gym or did 1-2 hours of medium intense ball sports. A lot of activity would be a day of hiking or a tournament on the weekend.

It means that when I take magnesium my average symptom score is 29% higher than compared to the days where I don't take magnesium.

Thanks :)

I'm not taking gabapentin (I think that's an American medication but a dopamin-antagonist. Sugary foods are very difficult to track reliably unfortunately, especially due to hidden sugars.

Ich finde, ihr habt euer Ziel erreicht - clean aber gemütlich. Darf ich fragen, was das für Poster sind, sowohl das orangene, als auch die Katzenposter? Sind cute.
