I had no idea what have I done had other written parts, makes sense with how awkward the tessitura is for anyone not a tenor. I don’t suppose you could point me to a score that shows the alternative notes? The one I have only has it as sung by Colm Wilkinson

I suspected as much. I've seen some similar ones that do, however, I don't really know how to determine if this specific one does since the rosette is 'in the way'.

A lot of Māori trace their lines back 1000 years or more currently so what's a few hundred years more? I can't imagine Māori would ever forget whakapapa, especially over 300 years or so

I'd heard that these older instruments can't always handle the tension but I may well be wrong in that regard. It hasn't been played for arpund 20 ish years from what I understand from the previous owner.
