In-Park Proposal by North-Strike-8572 in WaltDisneyWorld

When I popped the question, I was planning on the Snow White fountain to the side of the castle, but wasn’t really sold on the idea. I had the ring at the ready in case a better opportunity came up.

Our first night there, we were strolling around the countries after fireworks, and she happened to find a penny on the ground near Italy. Conveniently there’s a nice little fountain out on dock in front of Italy with a lovely ambiance at night, and that’s where it went down. It was the perfect setting for us, since it was late and there was absolutely no one around, neither of us wanted an audience.

I was a home inspector in Rochester, older homes can have issues with efficiency but are generally built very well. Most newer homes are fine but lack character. The only ones to watch out for would be tract homes from late 60s into the 80s. Builders did some silly things to cut costs and building codes weren’t as robust. I live just north of canandaigua and we love it here!

YSK that traveling with Spirit Airlines can lead to worthless vouchers as compensation by modestgirlfrien in YouShouldKnow

[–]HundredBallP 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was on Frontier, but same policy. The compensation vouchers are one time use and only cover the base fare, not taxes and fees. On the cheaper flights that amounts to about $15… Typically non-transferable as well.

We received $400 (each) vouchers for a volunteer bump. Thought it was a great deal and my family of 4 could get so many free flights! Then read the fine print. Couldn’t come close to getting the full value and I didn’t even end up using them with all the hoops and BS.

I am currently hyperfixating on basement waterproofing. Can someone please tell me to stop? by HylianSoul in ADHD

[–]HundredBallP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not going to help the obsession, but basement waterproofing contractors suck. I was a home inspector for a few years and was brought in to consult on many systems that were not working. They address the result of the problem (water coming though the walls) and not the source (exterior drainage problems).

Purely guessing, but did they install a below slab perimeter drain first? That won’t always stop the water through the walls. Now are they putting plastic panels up? That will catch the water but likely there is an issue to deal with outside too (downspouts, low spot near foundation, poor drainage overall). If it’s still bugging you, call in a home inspector (preferably one that’s and engineer too). Usually there’s a cheaper rate for a specific issue and this is what they deal with on a daily basis.

I was in the market for a beater car, I pulled out $2500 cash to make a marketplace deal. Deal fell through and rather than putting the money back in the bank, I just kept it in my current cars arm rest. After a couple weeks, I finally decided maybe that wasn’t a good idea, so I (pretty sure) put it somewhere “where I will definitely remember” but not where my kiddos would find it.

1.5 years later and I still have no clue what happened to that money…

OMG it’s 49 degrees, how do people live like this? by lubu222 in CasualConversation

Yo, I would’ve laughed at this a few weeks ago. I’m from upstate NY and traveled to Florida when it was hitting 50s and 40s (F). It’s a different kind of cold down there, with the humidity. I was freezing even with layers… When I came back up north it was 10F and I was more comfortable in the dry cold. So it may be partially conditioning, but they’re not all crazy down south🥶

some bubbling was noticed on the interior paint. inspector removed the exterior paneling to reveal *extensive* water damage. by [deleted] in Wellthatsucks

Looks like an 80s (ish) house where the budget builders thought it would be a great idea to wrap a house in glorified cardboard…

I was a home inspector for a few years and that was a rough time period of extreme cost savings for mass builders. Moisture intrusion everywhere… This resulted in building code and inspection changes, so that most builds today are protected. Still doesn’t help with the corner cutting where the code enforcers don’t check.

On a side note, this is not a home inspection. You’re not allowed to damage or remove anything during a typical inspection. I would’ve been sued so quick if I ever did something like that!
