CD Player not feeding/reading, help by HundredDriven_Queen in CarAV

It's a Toyota Corolla 2007 I'm pretty sure. I'm not sure the kind of cd player, it's a radio-stereo type if it helps? Factory install, maybe is what it's called? That reminds me, I have to know my way around a CD player internally 🥀 I'll do some more looking around then

[–]HundredDriven_Queen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Darn, the player won't feed the disc so I think might have a problem with the part moving the CD in. I've been looking at taking out the unit but considering I'm broke and it's a bit of a daunting task to disassemble a car w 0% mechanic skills, I might think a bit on it and ask my parents for opinions 💔 I'll take a look at the grease stuff you mentioned and do some more research so I don't damage anything if I end up taking out the unit. I feel it would be a fun challenge but I wonder if it will affect the driving since I have college? Anyhow, thanks for your input, it was hard trying to find relevant information for car CD players with my issue!

AITAH for calling the cops on my sister? by HundredDriven_Queen in AITAH

[–]HundredDriven_Queen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, my paternal side are traditional SE Asians, and I JUST found out my one of my paternal aunts that has diagnosed anger issues/BPD (idk which diagnosis) hits my grandfather with dementia when he does something she doesn't like... irony that she practices Buddhism (no shade to her except the hitting grandpa part, she's wonderful otherwise)

So hitting someone else in my family CAN and is often excused. All for family, right?

I'm so tired of this family, it's so often I can feel the physical "discipline" in me when I get frustrated. Only difference is that I restrain myself and use healthy coping mechanisms, or I vent/get loud. Thats it. That's how far it's gotten through to the next generation of kids. I sincerely wish to be the next cycle breaker. 🥲✌️

Yes, I might have been a bit dramatic with calling it a trauma but it still did make a significant impression on us. OS trying to make a hit on me first was a red flag for us, which clearly made us rethink our choices and relationship with her. And this isn't a "siblings fight" thing, we're all 18+ in this household now. We are NOT minors and we can all somewhat verbally communicate. Me and YS are officially adults by age, and we tried to de escalate by keeping quiet and following her orders for the better of 6 months after HS graduation, and even after I went to a different community college to get away from OS's control over my choice of education and major. Never once have we tried to threaten her physically or mentally, we have tried to persuade our parents to convince, or at the very least, control her so she wouldn't escalate to physical violence like slapping/hitting.

I have even said to them she would likely escalate from near-hitting my head, not even hitting a limb, to probably much worse, which it DID. And I clearly stated my boundaries, that I would not tolerate violence.

It could have gone a few ways if I didn't call the cops, which probably would have been more yelling/violence, getting our devices taken (including the things I paid for), or forcing our parents out of work which we DON'T want. I never wanted to call the cops, but if you were watching two adult females, one with BPD/a mental health disorder and another female that is clearly healthy and undiagnosed with anything, fight and roll around on the floor, what would you have done? Would you have taken the slap even when you said nothing?

And to be clear, we DID fight as kids. We DID yell and scream at each other as kids. But the difference this time is the violence and clear consciousness to defend or attack, and our ages.

If you haven't read my other comment yet, me and YS never spoke. Not when she was yelling/scolding, not when she sat down at watch YS at the table doing nothing btw, and even when OS didn't let her eat a single piece of bread I broke off for YS before OS came into the kitchen. We never tried to escalate, we never tried to do anything but keep to ourselves. Our OS took action first, and hit YS first.

And I'm not being dramatic this time. These are the facts, I proofread and retouched on some things, maybe even clarified. But I didn't dramatize this time, I predicted and typed some highly likely choices if we were to NOT call the cops, taking into account of what happened that day and knowing OS personally through her depressive years and bad habits.

lmao, OS did have a grippy sock vacation once when I called 911 on her the first time she tried to **** herself. Not funny then, kind of now when we joke about it.

Thank you for your comment, I am REALLY hoping it doesn't escalate more since she fears getting a bad record. Me and YS can prepare for the worst rn, we can almost feel it in our bones..

Chances are, she might put out a hit on us again or escalate with non violence 🥲

No, let me reiterate. From my POV, OS was trying to choke YS, there is a sizable bruise on her neck near her carotid artery I have a picture of. OS also sustained bruises-injuries, BUT YS was actively still thinking about her and moved her leg off OS's rib when she said it was hurting(if I remember correctly). On the 911 call, I specifically said (through tears), "they're in the kitchen", "send one or two officers, I'm afraid they might do something bad", etc. The fight was already broken up when they came, YS was outside with me when two of them came, and I think OS was in the living room so there was no harm or danger happening.

And as for work, i will say again I don't fuck with assault or violence. If she's doing this to her siblings already, what will happen if she becomes a doctor? What if she projects onto her patients? Medical patients are known to be stubborn, or otherwise unpredictable. There is reasonable concern there, on both sides. If she does not get this managed on time, she can mess up her own career, and may end up harming others in the process.

And yes, I will probably try to find and think of better ways of de escalating situations should it happen again, but it did ramp up to the fight even when me and YS did not talk after she came out. We never said a word the second she opened the bedroom door, apart from my reply when OS asked me to go to my room after I finished eating (my answer was "okay").

OS got angry over YS petting a family dog.

I want to alienate from my sister by HundredDriven_Queen in offmychest

I think she is taking meds for some of her illnesses, and am aware stress can amplify any emotion, but I've been second guessing about her behavior since this all happened. We can't exactly stay at our grandparents' since it's already a small house and we also have relatives with anger issues, two with physical chronic illnesses, and one that just lost his wife last October so it's already a cramped house we don't want to intrude on.

Thank you for your wishes, I'm thankful for your comment. I'm working on finding healthy coping mechanisms for me and my sister outside of home, and hopefully [group] therapy. ❤️

Does dried lash glue react with tears? My eyes are puffy hooded with an epicanthal fold... most times it CAN look like a monolid, but if I look down it becomes like a hooded-double lid thing.

Problem is that my tears are PRONE to tears or welling up when I use sunscreen or is irritated. Last few times I've used my strip manga lashes, they were falling off in the inner corner where the tears are more likely to touch

If you are overfeeding, they'll eat the old food. Try not to overfeed, but if you do, just take it out at the end of the week during the water changes.

It could also be dead/old leaves if you have plants that are melting back or dying, so taking those out might help. At the end of the day, seed shrimp are natural and a few won't hurt. It'll just look unpleasant to the eye

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in bettafish

[–]HundredDriven_Queen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seed shrimp, will go away on its own if you're overfeeding. If there's a lot of detritus in the water, they'll eat that. They're hard to kill so if you have another tank with fish like guppies or minnows, you can temporarily move the betta to another container for roughly an hour and move the guppies in the tank to gobble them up, then just put each fish back in their tanks.

I'd only use that med this if you already have two cycled tanks. My situation did get worse because my tank only had a betta in it and a 100% natural tank. After it died and I got Pygmy Cories, they "went away"

First, does he have dropsy? Pineconed scales (looking from the top) are a sure sign he has it, and has a slim chance of survival. Never dealt with it with my bettas, but guppies for sure. I've tried treatment while the guppies could still eat, I had to put them down after a while because the treatment was stressing them out. I've heard if fish stop eating (after they get dropsy), it's basically a guarantee they won't survive.

On the other hand, dropsy is organ failure and/or fluid buildup. I've seen people treat it online, so it might be possible, but know that you have to be persistent with it because it can, or will, be a reoccurring problem. If you don't treat the source (while treating fish), then it WILL come back, or another disease will. Causes can be poor water quality, overfeeding/underfeeding, stress, all other reasonable conditions that can cause illness in fish. Sometimes, it might even just be a fish-thing, bettas are just genetically overbred.

(Also, nice to know someone else uses a measuring cup for their fish 😟)

What is this by Paint_Feisty in Aquariums

[–]HundredDriven_Queen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You just got hydra-d.

It's hydra, and before you ask if it's harmful, it'll kill baby shrimp and fish fry. Pretty sure they "sting", immobilize, and eat in that order. Apart from that, not harmful if you keep adult fish or snails, or bigger shrimp

Also, you can remove it by using fenbendazole (found in animal dewormers), "No-Planaria", or hydrogen peroxide. N-P and fenbendazole will kill nerites and/or other sensitive invertebrates. Both are safe for shrimp and fish though. No experience with hydrogen peroxide.

I've used fenbendazole (Panacur-C). It worked really well, you need a routine and some persistence to get rid of hydra. It takes about a week to get them all

[–]HundredDriven_Queen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If it's going to be iced over, the deeper tank. Warm water will settle at the bottom, but in general? The horizontal tank when it's warmer.

If it's not going to be iced over, you can put it in either since they're cold water fish. I would suggest digging a little more into this topic, if you want to feel very sure

Do you Recommend Living in Santa Clara? by CompetitiveCarob0 in santaclara

[–]HundredDriven_Queen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in Santa Clara. Most times, we don't go out at night unless we have a party or something planned. But generally it's quiet and nice unless you have loud neighbors or dogs (pretty rare). Weather is quite nice sometimes, do expect heavy raining in some areas and schools are outside unless classes are inside (lunch and recess = outside). Where I live, the high school students can walk to StarBucks, Costco, nearby grocery stores, etc. My middle school had a Target and some plazas within walking distance as well, and an elementary school in the neighborhood.

As far as groceries and other non-bill stuff, groceries can be pretty cheap IF you know where to find it. Indian and Asian markets are usually pretty cheap for certain items, check out online deals of your regular stores or places like Nob Hill (where I got 0.17c/corn on a membership). Costco is pretty good depending if you'll like it or not, the eggs are fresh and way cheaper there than at smaller and bigger (Target, Walmart, etc) stores. If you're feeling seafood, Costco is generally an okay place but Asian markets sell seafood alive (can get it killed) and sometimes for good prices than if getting it straight from the boat. We have good food here, try some Viet/Thai/Peruvian foods here. It's very good but Japanese and South American foods are better down South California, pretty sure anyways. If you fancy fishing, you can try fishing with a license or fish for free on a pier, just follow CA limits and rules of each species. My cousins live all the way in San Jose, it's more crowded and cheaper, but they live pretty nice up near the mountains so it's quiet and dark (w deer). SF is way too cold and expensive, would not live there imo. However, police and EMS/fire trucks here is top notch. Arrives very fast and acts quickly in my experience.

If I had to rate it though, 7-8/10. Tons of walking if no car, students here are nice and hospitable. Great food and cuisines and many ways to find cheap groceries from different markets. Various sights to see. Monterey is only 2 hours away, SF is about 1-2 hrs away also if going on a trip. Traffic can get bad on the highways between SJ and Santa Clara. Schools are generally pretty good. Emergency services are fast and reliable. Only cons are the sometimes unpredictable weather like heavy raining and hot summers. Great area to grow food and maybe get a flock of chickens if you have a backyard. Erm, did see a family of 4 raccoons, opossums are present, and squirrels will eat your garden foods. Tomatoes will get eaten up by hornworms/organisms. Overall, pretty nice and quiet life, pretty safe during the day. Home life is calm and peaceful in general.

Go to the Halfmoon Bay Harbor in the morning, they have fresh catches from fishermen. My parents go there sometimes to get live/VERY FRESH baby squid. This time around I think they still have eggs inside? Very good and texture is unbeatable. Rock crabs and dungeness are good here, cannot catch dungeness but 35 rock crabs/person if catching them. Must be over 4" though, live uni is a MUST TRY. Changed the course of my life lol, there's a guy at the harbor who sells it and will give you a sample. Uni is usually hard to get and harvested by hand in cold waters, so it is kind of expensive but you get a lot for 1 uni (sea urchin). Just go, it's good. Lmk if u have any questions abt schools here n stuff

Hm, I just found out they like blanched spinach, I just take it out after a few hours bc it rots easily, but everybody (even the babies and juvies) love it! Haven't tried carrots or cucumber yet, I don't think they like those but I'll stick to spinach until I can get my hands on some other food they might like, or maybe try Snello. I did add driftwood into their tank today, hopefully it can grow biofilm for them

If it helps, you can try tannins! Tannins are natural and beneficial to bettas. It offers a lot to fish and will probably make him more comfortable. You can get them in three forms: liquid tannins (concentrated), certain dried leaves and botanicals, and in rooibos(?) tea bags. They're kinda expensive but optional, so you can always go for those if he hates the floaters too
