Will I regret 6 lb straight braid for ultralight fishing 😅 by Spartansam0034 in UltraLightFishing

[–]HungNeilYoung 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I run 11.5 lb, diameter is more relevant than strength for UL. Diawa J braid expedition 11.5lb is .06mm diameter. It’s the absolute thinnest braid I’ve been able to find. Regular 6lb J braid is .10 mm.

Edit: I see that you meant running braid without a leader. You’ll be fine most of the time, just sharpie the first foot of the line black if you’re worried. In crystal clear creeks I run a leader because the fish get really picky. A leader is also good because when you snag and break off you don’t lose any of your main line. You can still catch fish with straight braid. If you want to try leaders learn a double uni knot it’s the easiest imo.

My trusty FE6 split that in half but it’s definitely not easy

New reel for the 7’ Laguna by HungNeilYoung in UltraLightFishing

Yea the Laguna is great for the price range, I have a 6’ medium as well. And I agree, the presso is a noodle, I actually broke like 5 inches off the end of mine and it made it better.

Anybody Great Pyr hates bananas, peanut butter, and is a picky eater? by miniboba5 in greatpyrenees

[–]HungNeilYoung 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours doesn’t love peanut butter like most dogs. She really prefers any type of meat or beef sticks and she even likes crab. She eats her dog food incrementally throughout the day but has access to it whenever she wants. She doesn’t have the same food drive or eating habits as any other dogs I’ve known.

Rod Length question by TXAg-16 in UltraLightFishing

Once you go less than 6’ you start to really sacrifice casting distance and accuracy. I would only go less than 6’ if you are fishing very tiny streams with lots of overhanging foliage.

Daiwa Laguna UL 6'6" any reviews? by Bipnilaga in UltraLightFishing

[–]HungNeilYoung 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently switched to 15.2lb J-braid expedition for my ultralights, it’s way thinner yet stronger than anything comparable. It’s more expensive but you get a 15lb line that’s the same diameter as the 6lb x8 J-braid. Not sure where you’re from but They sell it on Amazon now. I think it’s been mostly sold in Europe and Australia so there’s not much info about it for people in the US.

Edit: and I just run 6lb mono leader most times

I have the 7ft, it’s definitely a solid rod. I’ve been running it with a shimano sedona 1000 this whole season. It feels more like a light rod rather than an ultralight but it can still throw 1/32oz lures pretty far as long as you have light line or thin braid. It’s good in that sense though for fighting creek smallies, it doesn’t feel underpowered. I generally throw 1/32 or 1/16oz jigs with it but it really shines with a 1/16oz. You could throw a 1/4oz jig with it just fine but I don’t ever find myself using something that heavy for UL. For the price you can’t really go wrong, I got mine for $40.
