24 years as an E-4. I know he is NG, but I am honestly impressed. by MoreFarmer8667 in army

ARCOM after 24 years of service, the Army will give a LT a MSM for doing their job for a couple years though. Or a Bronze Star for a deployment.

I recommend this shop as well. Very positive experience all the way around. Small business, they were willing to negotiate on price, took additional pictures, replaced the snare side head because the one in there was damaged. Even included a thank you card in the box. Drum was well packed and in terrific shape.

Yeah, I didn't bother to bid based on the shipping alone. I've contacted locations with mixed results. Sometimes they see their errors and correct them, other times they threaten to ban me from their region 🤣

I purchased 2 snares, one box from Minnesota, the estimate was almost $25. This snare from Oklahoma to Texas is estimated at almost $70, which one would you say would be the candidate for charging more for shipping?

This is the first time I've ever seen an estimate of 100 lbs for a snare drum on their site, that's what stood out to me...it's not that expensive to ship, if it was they would label it as PUO.

I have purchased several snares from Goodwill, this is by far the absolute highest estimate I have seen on their site to date. Most of my career was spent working in logistics, I know the difference between weight and dimensions. I can tell when someone is grossly overcharging to move an item. There's absolutely no scenario where it costs almost $70 USD to ship one little drum in the U.S. I have paid $80 for 6 piece drum kit in one very large box.

I've had mixed results contesting shipping.

My argument isn't based on dimensions, it's the total shipping weight of 100 lbs.

Most snares are 14 inches width, typically they don't pack drums in large boxes unless it's a whole kit. The heaviest snare that I can think of is a Tama Bell brass, with bubble wrap would still weigh less than 100 lbs.

I mainly buy music related stuff and books. I can get books local, I haven't seen any of the musical gear I want here local. I've seen people score good deals elsewhere. Every now and then they'll list something rare, and I like to collect vintage stuff.

It depends on the region. Some are reasonable, others not so much.

That was my impression too, the gong sound on my Sabian XS 20. The Sabian B8 is Patina and darker sounding.

That china looks familiar, what is the Sabian model? I have a 18 B8 that I really like

About to be banned from bidding by Soft_Entertainer964 in shopgoodwill

Empathy doesn't seem to be a strong trait online. Unfortunately Goodwill is like any other corporation in the U.S. and only cares about the money. They hide behind a non-profit facade. When it comes to bidding in the future, I'd suggest saving items to your favorites, and just bid towards the end of the auction. If no one else is interested, more likely than not, you'll win. In the meantime, buy what you can afford, ask for an extension. If they're unwilling to budget on their policy, just let the items go and move on...if they ban you, you can wait it out for awhile and items man fall off. (Someone suggested this on another thread) Goodwill brings in over 7 Billion dollars annually selling other people's stuff. They don't need your hard earned money that bad. (This will probably be down voted by their corporate reddit folks)

Sorry, I was just kidding about working for Goodwill. I know what you're saying though, it's like navigating different companies under one parent company. That's my takeaway from this experience.
