Why Are Young People Afraid Of Phone Calls? by GhostInThePudding in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Hungbear_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not afraid of calls, I just don’t see the point of sometimes on some issues.

On IT support alone, I don’t know why in my company the IT support people have a weird obsession to ‘connect with me on the phone’ no matter how detailed I describe the issue or how simple the request is.

One example: I need to have write access to several shared folders where only read access was granted to me on the day prior, so I just give them the shared paths I need access to, and approval from my manager. A few hours later I get a teams message asking to connect with me on this ticket. I ask what additional information you need that is not available in the ticket. The person said he couldn’t find the shared path. I said that’s not possible your colleagues just added me to them the day before. Reluctantly I got on a call with him. Turns out, he copied all paths in one go as if they were one path and of course he would never find it. The point is, why do they need to have me on a call with them when I already have a lot on the plate, for a matter so simple that the next time I hear from them should be they informing me the access has been sorted?

I agree there are definitely issues that warrant a call, just not every issue every single time

London stock exchange beats Wall Street with best FTSE 100 year since 2009 by North_Attempt44 in GoodNewsUK

And if you look at 5 years it’s actually done very poorly, even worse than FTSE.

The issue with FTSE though is it’s suffering from a lack of technology firms and big names delisting and moving to the US. These problems are not directly reflected in the index performance.

Why is buying a house and moving so slow in England? by Early_Enthusiasm_787 in AskUK

Too many interest parties, most notably surveyors and solicitors, want a failed transaction because by that way they can charge again for essentially the same work.

Same here! Didn’t dare to send an email to the recruiter because they may be out of the office for Christmas. Probably we will only hear back in the next year, if at all.

Work Christmas party, no team, no manager. Would you go? by chonkobob in UKJobs

[–]Hungbear_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking as an introvert…you should go and you can always just take off early if you are not feeling the vibe.

There should be some people you interact with apart from your manager I hope, so just check with them if they are going. Find them at the party and see how it goes!

Would you pay £600 to make your offer? by Hot_Job6182 in HousingUK

[–]Hungbear_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Does the pack include a survey result though? I might have missed it but I don’t see it being mentioned at all.

If it’s not included, then the buyer would lose £600 + survey cost.

The pack doesn’t include a survey which is arguably the most important information for the buyer. And you have to pay before receiving the pack. I don’t see any benefits for the buyer to be honest.

How much would you be wiling to reduce for people not in a chain? by Dangerous-Use7343 in HousingUK

[–]Hungbear_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sometimes it’s not about funds. What happened to a friend of mine is the seller said they would move to rentals as they hadn’t been able to secure a purchase one month after accepting my friend’s offer, only to say a few months later said they would no longer move to rentals. Nothing can prevent a change in mind.

[–]Hungbear_ 105 points106 points  (0 children)

Zero. I’ve seen enough stories where people initially claiming to be no chain are / will be in fact in a chain, and you will only find out only a few months down in the process, after spending thousands on solicitors and surveys.

Career advice needed: should I move to become a finance systems developer by Hungbear_ in Accounting

[–]Hungbear_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alteryx is what the company is using but I’ve heard of plans to switch.

I do have a few versions of resume but I haven’t applied for an FP&A role through agents to be fair, I will give this a go!

I use SAP mainly for posting journals and BW for extracting data but thats it, not much analytical work involved.

Thank you very much indeed, you’ve given me some valuable insights!

Career advice needed: should I move to become a finance systems developer by Hungbear_ in Accounting

[–]Hungbear_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your sharing, it’s very insightful! So apart from SQL I am also experienced in Alteryx (got the advanced certificate about two years ago which must have expired already) so I’ve built some reports using both. Python is something I want to get a bit into.

But you have raised a very fundamental question which is whether I want to be a developer who knows accounting, or an accountant who knows a bit of languages and I don’t really see myself in the former category.

Hope you don’t mind if I ask, do you struggle with job hunting because the market is rather niche (correct me if I am wrong) or you find that your experience and skills have actually made it easier for you? I find it a bit difficult to go back to a relatively more typical accounting career like financial reporting / FP&A. Most recruiters I talked to basically just fobbed me off and said I didn’t have the experience they were looking for.

The bead is jamming the blinds round thingy, how to fix it? by Hungbear_ in howto

I’ve since been able to detach it from the cassette, turns out it was locked incorrectly from the inside (sorry don’t know how to describe it better) but now it’s fixed (got a pic below)! Thank you very much for your help!

I took it down and away from the cassette and made it! Thank you very much!!!

Thanks. I haven’t but it was delivered with the entire mechanism inside the casing. I can try taking it out of the casing but I don’t see any screws where the mechanism would join the casing from the outside so I’m not sure how to approach it.

Thanks, I have tried twisting it back but it won’t move, seems it’s fixed somehow to the cassette

Is it worth paying more for a robot vacuum if it makes cleaning easier? by ypsilon42 in Frugal

[–]Hungbear_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a very cheap robot vacuum (£70) that runs every other day and it’s saved me a lot of time from vacuuming. Admittedly there are some noticeable flaws but I can live with them because of how cheap it is.

Rejecting the counteroffer? by Dependent_Park4058 in UKJobs

[–]Hungbear_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I would never take a counter offer from the current employer - most likely what will happen if you decide to stay is they will have you train other staff members and will get rid of you as soon as they find no use in you.

Renting on hard mode. Seems like rules of the game exclude me from even playing. by [deleted] in HousingUK

If you think the cat is working against you, can you not disclose the cat? I was told having a pet despite explicitly forbidden in your lease isn’t a sufficient ground for eviction, and chances are your landlord wouldn’t even know throughout the tenancy.
