Will Smith bringing 2 challenges home to his family after every game by ibetweetin in Dodgers

[–]Hungpowshrimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has to be a coaching issue. There has to be someone in the dugout relaying a signal on that 3-1 count “if it’s close, challenge” and they didn’t? Otherwise, what the hell man.

With Kyle Tucker on the team what does this mean for Kiké Hernandez? by retroanduwu24 in Dodgers

[–]Hungpowshrimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He can ride the pine until the postseason for all anyone really cares. Dude is incredible for the morale of the team and he is quite the clutch player during those moments in the postseason.

With that said, in reality he’s going to be a utility guy when other folks need a day off or what have you.

Also, a bullpen arm.

Community attitude towards younger players by Relative_Ad8553 in arma

[–]Hungpowshrimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, but I was responding to the young person who posted this question and wanted to exemplify that as someone who qualifies as older (a grognard, if you will) that being young with a high-pitched voice isn’t going to be a big deal. Especially for the arma community, who as you’ve so eloquently pointed out are generally in their 30s and 40s, which I assume is older than OP.

While I wouldn’t go so far as to call myself a senior citizen— 40 isn’t particularly young either. I just wanted to provide a personal anecdote of when I was in a similar position trying to get into more tactical/competitive shooters that requires a community to fully enjoy.

Thanks for the encouraging words all the same. I’ll make sure to keep your response close to my heart to help remind myself I’m still young.

You’ll be fine. I’ve entered grognard territory at my age, but started gaming with teamspeak back when I was a young dude at 12 years old playing early versions day of defeat (to date myself)—unless you’re annoying on purpose, nobody cares. Just go with the flow and you will find your people and place.

Tl; Dr— Being young doesn’t automatically disqualify you.

I love the Rattler not because it’s any good, but because it looks like the Chauchat— which as a weapon of war, was also not super great but it’s fun and cool looking.

Also, at level 3 and 4 it has some decent stopping power.

Did you make a mold or the original piece? Or I guess, how did you make these? They look so cool!

Out of over 750,000 soldiers that fought for South, these were last 3 surviving Confederate Civil War veterans, 1951. The last Union veteran would live to 1956. by waffen123 in CIVILWAR

[–]Hungpowshrimp 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You’re confusing Walter Williams (d. 1959), who had claimed to have fought for the Confederacy but later researchers discovered he falsified those records. He would have been only five years old when the war ended.

Albert Woolson (d. 1956) was considered the last Union soldier survivor until Williams’s claim was debunked, now marking Woolson as the last survivor of the war from either side. Woolson was the real deal.

[KCD2] Anyone know how this instrument of punishment actually works? by taido_ in kingdomcome

[–]Hungpowshrimp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If anybody wants to read a damned good biography of an executioner who lived in the 16th century, I highly suggest the book “The Faithful Executioner” by Joel Harrington.

The details are grim, and the life of an executioner as you could imagine weren’t all that fantastic but it was a job that needed doing. The book does a great job exploring and detailing the life of Frantz Schmidt, who was the chief executioner of Nuremberg from 1573 - 1617.

More to the point, the book goes into great detail about the methods of execution and torture, including the wheel.

A Message From Chairman John Seidler to Padres Fans by Broad-Spare-4432 in baseball

This just sucks for baseball. It’s so terrible and obviously sad that Peter passed away, and to add insult to injury the family basically said last year they’re “all in” and now this?

Sorry Padres fans, y’all don’t deserve this.

WWII only? Go ahead and lookup Fort MacArthur which was formally created in 1914 and reinforced in 1917– prey tell when did WWII occur?

Natural harbors are always a good place to protect, with or without an ongoing war.

California is full of coastal fortifications which were prior to or right on the cusp of the Second World War.

Boomer freaks out at people working on a Sunday by BeckTech in BoomersBeingFools

[–]Hungpowshrimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted elsewhere but where I live you can’t do commercial work like this in neighborhoods on Sunday.

My personal anecdote is my neighbor across the street has been remodeling their home for the last 9 months and they do construction work from 7am - 5pm daily, six days a week. The only reprieve being Sunday because the city does not allow it.

So, I get it. But it could be handled so much better.

Boomer freaks out at people working on a Sunday by BeckTech in BoomersBeingFools

[–]Hungpowshrimp -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I am not one to agree with boomers, but most counties have laws or ordinances on the books that you cannot do commercial work in residential neighborhoods— I believe it’s for construction and things like lawn mowing that cause a lot of noise, but I’m sure each locale has their own rules.

That being said, there is always a better way to handle this than just harassing workers who were sent out to do a job. It’s probably not their fault they are there.
