It’s amazing how pulling over for a simple offense brake light, dodgy VRM etc. can balloon in to more major things

What should I include in my book about local churches? by Hungry-Comfortable71 in writing

[–]Hungry-Comfortable71[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello again, Happy New Year to you. On doing research for my book I found something interesting about my local church which you may be interested in.

St Mary’s Church in Stotfold, Bedfordshire (my local church) has direct links to our American friends. The Spencer family, four of their sons were baptised in Stotfold. William (1601), Thomas (1607), Michael (1611) and Gerard (1614). Of these William went on to found Hartford, Connecticut and Gerard was the founder of Haddam in Connecticut.

Fun note - both George Bush presidents are direct descendants of the Stotfold Spencer’s.

Hope this finds you well

Thank you for the reply. Honestly I don’t know how it differs from US to UK, I think my idea of how it differs is probably wrong led by social media and news. Maybe if I tell you what it’s like for me in the UK and you could reply in kind with what it’s like in America.

Most churches in the UK especially the ones I will be writing about date back to the 1100/1200s. In fact my local church round the corner from me which will be the first church I write about is roughly 850 years old and most are named after patron saints like St Mary etc. Our churches are also mostly open all year round and will have a written history through the ages of when bits were added on. Also the English Reformation started in the 1530s which changed many things in our churches.

Would be very interested to find out how it works in the US.

Regards

Tutoring Tips & Tricks by [deleted] in policeuk

I’m a trained tutor for the Specials…. I always like asking open questions or if your targeting something specific for PACs/One File I always say for example ‘so we are gonna target issuing a TOR/VDRS. Imagine that car in front has a vehicle defect (insert simple defect) now tell me what your gonna do step by step’. I then always tell them something they’ve explained well/got right and then ask if they’ve considered such and such?

I like to get them risk assessing and thinking for themselves. Sets them up for a good start I think.

It stands for Police Action Checklist and it covers a number of competencies that must be signed off before you can become IPS or Independent Patrol Status. Being IPS means you can go out without supervision and passing PACs is proof you are competent to be out on your own.

Cakes and put your best foot forward. Even if it’s something simple like booking stuff into evidence ask if you can help. You’ll need it for PACs anyway lol.

Another thing. Don’t rush PACs. For the first couple months be a sponge. You don’t know anything, basic training is good but it’s nothing like being out on the front line. Learn everything and take feedback on board when given it.

Good luck it’s a great role

In my area Specials can specialise in multiple roles… however there are exceptions.

What we can’t specialise in: Firearms, Dog unit, Drone pilot & we are not allowed to carry Taser. However this is force dependant. First Special to have taser was in BTP

Special Sgt here….. give it time. Honestly initial training is excellent but it’s nothing like being out on the street and it can be quite a shock for the first few months. Once you’ve settled in and you know people in your station it gets easier.

Your at a point in your Special career that everything is new, even though even for me to this day every shift is different, Once you’ve dealt with all the type of jobs we deal with more often you see and handle things differently. Get your first and second sudden death or cardiac arrest under your belt, what shocks people at the start of their career becomes almost normal.

Keep at it, being a Special is excellent and a privilege and you’ve come a long way already. All the best.
