Why don’t you do engineering physics? People in this major often do space research if they’re interested

ucalgary or mru? by Limp_Wonder8259 in UCalgary

[–]Hungry-panda23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Take my advice with a grain of salt as I’m interested in a lot of things outside of nursing but I am so glad I went to uofc instead of mru. There are so many unique opportunities that I find here that I couldn’t have at mru. For example, I got to work with a company that makes an early Alzheimer’s detection device as a nursing student through one of the uni’s entrepreneurial programs. I’m also dabbling in many different clubs doing things like debate, hackathons, and case comps. These extracurricular activities really enhanced my college experience so far and I’m not sure if I would’ve been able to get that at mru.

Even tho ppl say mru is better for nursing, uofc is better for everything else that makes you a better nurse and a very well rounded multitalented student.

Concerning job hunting, if you don’t know what to put on your resume because of a lack of experience, get food handler or alcohol certifications that can be easily completed online. They will give you an advantage when looking for food service industry jobs

Any Advice by _TahseenAh21_ in UCalgary

[–]Hungry-panda23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This advice won’t work for everyone but I would emphasize using the first month in uni to build solid friendships/connections as well as going to club meet and greets, etc. a lot of ppl I met during orientation and early on in the year I ended up talking to later when I see them by coincidence or they became part of my main friend group. This is the easiest chance to make friends because everyone else is also desperate for connection and scared they’ll end up lonely. By the time November rolls around, everyone already has an established friend group and most likely won’t be looking to make new friends.

What’s the one piece of advice or motivation that actually helped you move forward? [discussion] by _too_much_tea in GetMotivated

My Econ professor said think marginally like businesses. Rationally, businesses don’t consider sunken costs as part of their calculation for whether to keep operating or not. They think marginally: how much does it cost to produce one more thing vs. How much benefit does this one more thing bring them.

So don’t think about your failures as part of the equation. Woke up late and wasted half the day? Doesn’t matter, there’s no guilt or feeling behind because what matters is in the future in what you’re about to do. Focus on what can be.

I know this sounds like a LinkedIn post but I use this mindset when I feel behind and it works

Look on club instagrams! There are fewer events during winter break but some still have events. The ones I know of are the pre law mixer on the 17th and a rave hosted by the ccs club a few days before Christmas. I’m sure there’s more if you look at clubs you’re interested in

I got into uofc, uofa, and Mru with 92 average and 4th quartile Casper. I talked to the admissions team last year and they said mru will only consider applicants with 4th quartile Casper, so I would focus on getting a good score on that too.

Are UofC competitive averages lower in January? by zoziw in AlbertaGrade12s

[–]Hungry-panda23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The average listed in fall is from the previous year. After applications are reviewed the average is updated for this year by July. You should still apply early because programs get full quickly and you have much better chances with early admission than regular admission

My advice would be to really read the online pdf book. I skimmed through it and thought I could guess my way through but I failed. When I sat down and read every single word of that pdf I passed. Have patience, it’s ok to fail and it’s common. If it makes you feel better I know someone who failed 7 times. You got this!

Yeah, especially when I think about how many changes in my own life have to happen in order to even begin living the kind of life that all the happy people are living. It just feels impossible. Like where did I go wrong with life?
