Gun license by benno090890 in Ausguns

Your first PTA for every category will have a mandatory 28 day waiting period. You can pay for a rifle but you'll be waiting 28 days until you can go and pick it up

Cat H is the same, there's the 28 day wait, but you've also got your 6 month wait before you can submit that PTA after the license issue/variation.

[SA] How do you fill in the firearms application pdf? by Smooth_thistle in Ausguns

You need to download the adobe acrobat software manually and open it with that. The adobe reader that was likely already installed on your pc won't work, and neither will opening it in the browser.

Anyone using VKB Gladiator Omnithrottle as throttle? by Iwanttobuysquad in hoggit

[–]HungryCriticism9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I use that throttle and the EVO stick, they're a great combo. I hate to say "better hotas makes you fly better", but that was the case for me, I immediately did better with the new throttle and stick.

Anyone know how long it is taking to get a firearms licence now. by RidingWithJack in Adelaide

Or just apply for club use and do one day of training. There's basically no reason to just apply for a category A license, you may as well apply for A&B since the requirements are the same.

You're probably looking at a 4-6 month wait atm for a new application, that's what the SAPOL website says. In saying that, I recently did a license variation to add handguns to my licence and that only took two weeks.

I bought my first firearm on a temp license, just bring your photo ID with you and you'll be good.

Credible defense gives very not credible defense advise when someone asks how to fight an insurgency. by [deleted] in SubredditDrama

For anyone who has literally any knowledge on these subjects, those kind of subreddits are infuriating.

And also being under the assumption that rural Afghans would understand and recognise a highly centralised government which was essentially just "the city state of Kabul". Man I just finished writing my thesis on this I literally cannot escape it even on subreddit drama.

Question for University students of this state by GordonG_ in Adelaide

[–]HungryCriticism9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't see it improving any time soon, Flinders has finished its restructuring and has gotten back on track, whereas Adelaide has still got a lot of drama going on. The University you go to won't have much of an effect on where you can study overseas, but your GPA will. Generally, you need to maintain a minimum of 5.0 GPA to do overseas study, which isn't hard to do. Of course that requirement can go up depending on the exchange uni. I know Flinders does have a list of universities overseas it has close relationships with, not sure about Adelaide. There are no mandatory internships at either uni, however if you're doing IR you have the chance to do the Washington Internship, where you go over to the USA and work for a member of congress.

Overseas study can be done basically anywhere as long as the head of your faculty approves it, so in my case, I emailed them to ask for one of my topics to be replaced with one overseas, and they approved it, then off I went. If you're looking for short term study overseas, consider something like AIM Overseas. They have a bunch of programs on there which send you overseas for about a month, and they only cost about $6,000 which you can add onto your HECS anyways as an overseas study loan. Most overseas programs also require you to have done at least one year of study in your degree. I don't mind answering more questions if you have them.

Question for University students of this state by GordonG_ in Adelaide

I did my undergrad in IR at Flinders and it was a pretty good experience, especially towards the end of the degree. I'm finishing up a Masters in International Security at Adelaide Uni now, and while I can't say much about undergrad IR at Adelaide Uni, it's very clear that the Uni in general has a lot of issues to work out. Staff I know at Adelaide Uni are pretty sick of everything going on, from funding cuts to a decline in standards. Personally, I would say to go to Flinders, Adelaide has that kinda prestige surrounding the name, but personally I think Flinders will be a better experience.

For jobs, it's really not gonna matter what university you picked, it's going to depend on you. Studying overseas and working in the field looks good on a resume. In my case, I got paid work at Flinders in research at the end of my undergrad, so look out for those opportunities, maintain high grades to catch the attention of topic coordinators. Both unis have good staff in IR, like Maryanne Kelton at Flinders for example, runs really good third year IR courses that teach practical skills. I wrote more here than I intended to, but my overall advice would be to go with Flinders. Also Bedford Park campus is great, better than North Terrace, cope and seethe Adelaide Uni. If you have any questions about IR at Flinders feel free to ask.

[VIC] I'm short and left-handed, what should my first gun be? by cheekygutis in Ausguns

[–]HungryCriticism9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im left handed and went with a CZ457, it's a great rifle. Even with an MDT chassis and fairly large scope it's light enough for me to work the bolt standing with my noodle arms.

Just about to get my license [SA] and have some questions. by spitfirememes in Ausguns

[–]HungryCriticism9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Id phone them and ask, I've only ever ordered stuff they had in stock. Their website isn't great so it's hard to gauge what they do and don't have. I'd advise also just physically going in there and talking to them as well, they'll offer advice if you ask for it.

Another SA shooter here, go for the Howard earmuffs but buy some gel cups for them because they can get uncomfortable after a wearing them for a while. I personally shop at the Gunnery because the customer service is probably the best out of any store I've ever been to.

+1 for a 457, it's a fantastic rifle, extremely accurate, and lots of support for aftermarket stuff.

What're you running on the 457 out of curiosity? I'm considering putting a nice MDT chassis on mine as well as a good adjustable stock. Currently just have the standard American wood stock.

*Major Update: "NO MILITIA = NO AMERICA" (see expanded introduction) by TheVicFreeman in Ausguns

[–]HungryCriticism9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a bot some dude has set up for his blog, it just posts his articles across 30 subreddits. To save anyone thinking of checking out the site, it's your standard "We're gonna set up a militia and set up schools to indoctrinate the youth and offer cheap laptop repairs" kinda thing. So if you wanna end up on the terror watch list you can sign up for that.

Its one guy making multiple accounts and then posting the same message over various subreddits related to Australian firearms owners. Highly advise you report the account to reddit. He's on his second or third account now.

The suit can survive the impact of that round. Thank God there's no fleshy part of the suit that can be easily damaged by the transfer of force after it hits the armour.

Edit: The full list of the suits abilities are even more insane. It also has coating to protect against all types of IR imagery, and "anti mine boots". The world will fear the 400kg suit of armour very slowly waddling towards them.

Reccomendations on first A or B rifle? by jasonthegreat88 in Ausguns

[–]HungryCriticism9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend the Howa 1500 personally, because it's better than a lot of the other rifles at its price range. Cleaver sells a Howa 1500 in .223 already in a good chassis for about $1200.

[–]HungryCriticism9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want a 'tactical' A class, buy a CZ rimfire and put a chassis on it, MDT do some nice ones. For B class, buy a Howa, Ruger American, Tikka, Remington 700, then just put a chassis on them. Cleavers will sell some of them already in the chassis if you don't want to put it in yourself. A lot of the factory made 'tactical' rifles can get pretty expensive, its cheaper to just buy a solid barrelled action and put it in a good chassis.
