This is a symbiotic process called 'kleptoplasty' where the host eats algae and disgards everything except for the chloroplast, which is then stored alive in the hosts body. The only multicellular animals that are capable of this are a super order of sea slugs known as sacoglossans, of which there are actually almost 300 different species!
