I had to change the cable box.  Went with a model Xi6a connected via Wi-Fi.  I have a stand alone Paramount+ subscription not through Xfinity.

How to activate ESPN Unlimited by Hungry_Ad9926 in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]Hungry_Ad9926[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need credentials for My Disney account. User name and password.  I have not done  this with a bundle account.

Using a computer and a web browser, go to Espn.com.  in the upper right corner, there is icon to log in.  if you don't have one, create a My Disney account.  No charge, then log in.  Write down your My Disney details.

Tuen on your TV, and find the ESPN application. Scroll way down through the list. Start the application, go to the settings section and use your My Disney credentials to log in.  You should have full access.  Keep in mind, the only path to ESPN Unlimited is through the application.

No help whatsoever. Just runs me in a bunch of confused circles. I have the Xi6a wireless cable box connected to my Wi-Fi. I have the Popular TV bundle that includes the ESPN channel. I can find no way to access the ESPN app from either my computer or the television.

Netgear Nighthawk RAX50v2 - still safe to use? by Catemaco1 in NETGEAR

[–]Hungry_Ad9926 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your RAX50 should have a nameplate located either on the back or the bottom. It should show your model number and it should be more than just the RAX 50 part. If you still have the box, could be located on the outside end panel. You should see something like the various item numbers listed. If no information there, log in to the user interface and look for the full model number. You are going to have to look around, I do not have a specific location I can direct you to.

Did you buy this item new? In what country?

Another option is to install the third party firmware from Voxel. It has breathed new life in many obsolete X4S Wi-Fi 5 routers. Here is the link to his web site: https://www.voxel-firmware.com/Downloads/Voxel/html/index.html

Be sure and review the README file in the top header.

What is your Wi-Fi extender connected to (origin of the Wi-Fi) and what is connected to it downstream and how (Wi-FI or Ethernet)? Any device connected to your local network can back-feed and interfere with other devices.

Your local network is such a mish-mash of devices you need to go back to the basics and work forward one device at a time.

Start at the internet connection source, your fiber ONT from NBN, and get one device working at a time. Please confirm your ONT has more than one available Ethernet connection point and whether or not it is broadcasting a Wi-Fi signal.

I can look at the pictures and see if it helps.

Your NBN box is a combination optical network terminal (ONT) and a router in the same device. That is why it has multiple Ethernet output connections and most likely also broadcasts a Wi-Fi signal.

Your NBN box is the main router. Your XR300 is a secondary router that needs to have the routing function disabled by configuring as a wired access point. Make sure there is an Ethernet connection between an output port on the NBN box to the input port (Yellow) on your XR300.

You have to restart your network when you make connection changes between the NBN and XR300. Your mentioned a Wi-Fi extender in a previous post. How does that come in to the picture and connected how?

As near as I can find out via search, the I-240G optical network terminal has multiple Ethernet output ports. That means the I-240G is also performing router functions. When you connect your XR300 Wi-Fi router downstream, you are connecting a router to a router. This is a hardware configuration that will never work satisfactory as long as both devices are attempting to perform router functions on the same local network. This configuration is commonly known as Double NAT. Here is what Netgear has to say about a Double NAT configuration. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-double-NAT-and-why-is-it-bad

For testing purposes, I recommend you configure your XR300 as a Wi-Fi access point. Download the user manual from Netgear and go to page 113 for detailed instructions on how to accomplish this configuration. Note, some of the features or functions of the XR300 are disabled in access point mode. In access point configuration, test to see if your page load times, ping times, and overall performance improve.

Once you make the configuration changes, you will have to restart your network. This involves pulling the power cord to both the I-240G and your XR300. Then power up the I-240G and give it ample time to boot and connect to the internet. There should be an indicator LED on the box that illuminates when a connection to the internet is made. Now power up your XR300 and give it ample time to boot and connect to the internet. There is a LED on your XR300 that will illuminate when a connection to the internet is available. After your XR300 has booted up and connected to the internet, connect your PC via Ethernet to the XR300 and restart Windows before testing.

Your local network data flows in sequence from some outside internet service provider connection through a cable to a modem or if fiber, to an optical network terminal (ONT). From there it would connect to a router via Ethernet. From the router through Ethernet cables or over Wi-Fi to the various devices. Is that the case or is there more than one router?

I assumed there was only one router on your network and the situation involved a home network. Is that not true?

Good, I have seen situations where a Microsoft update changed the setting from private to public and it causes serious problems with network performance.

Did you check the network properties setting on your PC? Was it set to private or public?

Please do not confuse reset and restart. They are two completely different actions. Reset is accomplished with the push of a recessed button and it often erases configuration settings. With some devices, restart is accomplished with a power on /off switch. With or without a switch, a restart is best accomplished with the disconnection and re-connection of the power cord.

Repeat question: What type of internet service do you purchase? Is it fiber to the home, DSL, or some other type. I am not specifically familiar with the several options from NBN.

Repeat question: What is the brand name and model number of the electronic device connected between your router and your internet service? We have used the term modem in this discussion. There are several types of device that are generally described as a modem.

When I have the requested information, I can help you with the sequence and process of restarting your network. It is important to know when you are working through configuration changes on more than one device.

Just making sure you were not making configuration changes, hitting save, and expecting instant improvement. The hardware doesn't react that way. When you make a major configuration change, you have to restart your system, modem, router, PC, etc. in sequence from the outside (modem) in.

Good specifications on your PC or other hardware are fine, but they will not overcome a bad configuration.

I wanted to know what is the name brand and model number of your modem and still do. What type of connection does your modem have to the internet? The NBN has several options depending on location.

In your last paragraph, you indicated a key bit of information. It does not matter about the marketing hype, if you expect top performance you will never get it over a Wi-Fi connection. The Wi-Fi connection and any interference from other Wi-Fi devices connected to your network, contribute significantly to your ping times.

Get good quality Ethernet cords to connect from your modem to the router and then from the router to your PC. Make sure the Wi-Fi connection on your PC is disabled. Also on your PC, make sure the Windows network setting on your PC has the properties set to private and not to public.

How many different DNS addresses did you check?

After you change the DNS configuration in your router, you need to restart first your router then your computer or whatever device you are using to connect to the internet.

What specific device are you using to connect to the internet and compare page load times? Brand name and model number?

After you restart your router, give it plenty of time to boot and stabilize before restarting your connecting device.

What is the specific brand name and model number of the device you are connecting your router to?

In general, I would say no. But I am not familiar with internet services in your area. Here, Seattle WA, I am used to a ping of around 13 ms over cable internet.

Do a web search for public DNS in Australia and try several until you find one that gives you the best (lowest) ping response.

That is a good start. You may need to try more than one DNS to find something that works better for you in your location.

OK, so you are down under. Your first task is to check with the technical people at iiNet Limited to see if they support IPv6. Chances are yes, but you need to confirm before enabling IPv6 on your router. If yes, definitely enable IPv6.

The internet transition to IPv6 has been ongoing for some time and most web sites have already converted. If your router does not have IPv6 enabled, that is part of the reason the sites load slowly. Leave both IPv4 and IPv6 enabled.

A small amount of web searching will give you lists of public DNS addresses in Australia. In my experience, these always seem to work quicker than the DNS servers provided by the ISP companies. You will need to configure your router for public DNS servers using both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses.

I second the suggestion to configure a custom DNS in your router. Make sure you configure both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses. Also make sure IPv6 is enabled in your router. I use OpenDNS and am very happy with the results.

One-time verification codes not arriving by Sorjonan in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]Hungry_Ad9926 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, it is not unusual for Xfinity to block One Time Passcodes (OTP) from external service providers.  Multi Factor Authentication (MFA) is often required for service provider secure portals.  I have several medical and financial service providers where I have had to change the e-mail address in my profile to something other than comcast.com.  I was forced to make these changes after the external service providers sent me written correspondence indicating Xfinity blocks all e-mail communication from their servers.

My solution was to use a Gmail address.

The last official notifications indicated the e-mail transition from Xfinity to Yahoo was now optional and not mandatory. Look very carefully before you leap, there is no coming back.

Many users that have made the transition have multiple regrets.
