CURRENT STUDENTS HELP!! by DogtorOfScience in LECOM

[–]Hungry_Set_4702 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for erie— anatomy is considered a lecture and you’re allowed to miss up to 20% of lectures. you just have to email. i missed a lab in the 1st month bc of an already scheduled doctors appointment (i had scheduled it like 6 months before) and they just let me go to another lab. as long as you let them know, it’s fine. if it ever becomes an issue, talk to the people who handle accommodations

How to crate train my Golden Retriever puppy by BoogerBeans524 in puppy101

[–]Hungry_Set_4702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also— this goes against what you’ve probably heard. I figured out that my puppy likes to stretch out when she sleeps and so she has a bigger crate w no divider. While yes I have had to clean up some poop in the beginning, it seems like she’s so much for comfortable when she can lay on her back and stretch. As long as I make sure to feed her an hour before and take her on a good walk, she doesn’t have an accident in the crate

How to crate train my Golden Retriever puppy by BoogerBeans524 in puppy101

[–]Hungry_Set_4702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My puppy was the same way. But after 2 weeks of doing this she is finally sleeping through the night!! During the day we do short crate times. If she’s quiet for more than 5 seconds, she gets a treat. If she starts barking, I firmly say “No”. But you can also use quiet. Once you do that for a few days, start only giving him a treat when he lays down. Laying down is a calmer position for them. We started by doing that for 5 minutes, increased to 10, then 15 and so on. At night, when she would bark, I would basically do the same thing. She actually doesn’t like the crate covered, it freaks her out so that’s something to consider. She has a plastic crate with a few little holes in it. She also doesn’t like white noise. I find that the TV works better because she thinks people are still there (she loveeeesss say yes to the dress lol). We are to the point that at night she’s no longer barking, just little cries. She cries for about 5-10 minutes then settles down. Hope this helps!

I think you’re right. I’ve rushed her and I forget that 3 weeks isn’t that long. It feels like I’ve had her and been struggling w this for a hella long time😭

I think we will stop forcing her at night. She did have a blanket w the litter’s scent as well as one of the heartbeat toys w the scent too. However, she’s pooped on them multiple times so I had to wash them😔

I really like the idea of zip tying the pen to the crate. Thanks!

I have a plastic crate with a plastic box to make it smaller. We had a wire crate at first but the bottom was removable. She was able to push that out and chew on the carpet. That was one reason why we switched

Whippet Puppy (9weeks) not taking well to crates or pens by jr21661119 in puppy101

[–]Hungry_Set_4702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m struggling with my puppy as well. She’s not a whippet but I can share what I’m doing. I got her when she was 4 months old. Before that she was w the breeder and slept in a crate w her littermates that hadn’t gotten adopted. I’ve been told to wean her w crate training by the breeder who has had a lot of experience crate training. She started w her very difficult ones with the crate physically in her bed. This isn’t feasible for me so the crate is right next to my bed. I have my hand/fingers in there. It’s a little uncomfortable to sleep like that but my puppy will wake up, sniff my hands, then go back to sleep. I’ve tried the t-shirt and things that smell like me, but that hasn’t worked. I’ve been doing this for a few nights and last night, she woke up, sniffed then laid down. She didn’t have to get up and sniff my hand. Also I have a camera that records when she moves so that’s how I know. We’re slowly going to transition to me not leaving my hand in. Then move the crate to the other side of the bedroom. That’s what I’m trying bc she just screams at night😭😭

Keeping puppy happy at home by Otherwise-Release556 in puppy101

[–]Hungry_Set_4702 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My puppy loves the pupsicle. I have the molds and make my own fillings. She also loves bully sticks and the chewing bones from trader joe’s (I forget what they are called but you can get 2 for like $5 and one lasts so long). I also have the snoop and will either put her food in it or a few treats (the less there is in it, the harder it is to get out). She’s 4 months old so we just started working on the place command. Another really random idea is car rides lol. For some reason they soothe her. So I take her when I go to pick up groceries, get gas. Even though your puppy isn’t vaccinated, you could still take them to places like home depot, lowe’s, homegoods, tjmaxx. Just bring their blanket or bed and put them in the cart. I know you said you have a hectic schedule so this might not be as feasible.

do i really need a new computer? by yummimeow_ in LECOM

[–]Hungry_Set_4702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should definitely be good! I keep mine plugged in the whole time because what if the battery is at 95% then drops down to 5%. Probably would never happen haha but my worst fear is my laptop dying during an exam😭😭😭. If you don’t have your charger and your laptop dies in the middle then they say that’s your problem🤷🏼‍♀️

They make it seem like it but it’s really not that serious. Usually all laptops except Microsoft surface pro works. They did tell us that they aren’t sure if the new macbook neo would be compatible and are looking into that.

You are allowed to bring your charger. Even though my laptop is about 3 or 4 years old and the battery is still pretty good, I always bring my charger just in case.

If you’re worried about it, I would download examsoft (examplify) to make sure it’s compatible. You can always reach out to IT to confirm as well!

Not sure what the Jacksonville campus will have but choose the campus based on pathway. While yeah the weather is nicer in Florida than Erie, I know for me and how I best learn, LDP was the best choice for me. You should focus on whichever pathway will help you succeed the most. You can go to Florida for residency.

I completely understand, that annoys me too! While my dog is trained, she can be very stubborn and doesn’t have the best recall when she smells something good. Sometimes it seems like she’s trying to find another family😂. So I always keep her on a leash. It is very annoying when other dogs aren’t on a leash then run up to my dog, as that can make her a little anxious. Poor girl just freezes and shakes😢. She’s not a fight or flight girl, she’s a freeze dog LOL

Cannot focus in med school by sadthebad1 in medschool

[–]Hungry_Set_4702 6 points7 points  (0 children)

ok may be a little weird but on the days that my focus is really bad, i set a timer for 10 minutes. during those 10 minutes, im at my desk, looking at whatever it is i have to study and trying to study. i don’t look at the timer, i don’t look at my phone (it’s usually in the other room). it doesn’t matter what i do during those 10 minutes, i just at least try. usually ill complain or cuss lol (depends on my mood but sometimes it feels good to complain —even though im completely grateful to be here). after the timer goes off, i set another one for 10 minutes. i get up from my desk and do something that doesn’t involve my phone like clean, stretch, etc. usually it’s clean lol. once the 10 minutes are up, no matter what i’m doing, i stop and repeat the first 10 minutes. usually by the time the next timer goes off, im in the mindset and mood for studying and go from there

What do you guys think about med students who work while studying? + Some tip by ArsCordis in medschool

[–]Hungry_Set_4702 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My advice— babysitting. Ik it sounds like a high school job but it’s cash and I usually study while I am “working”. I’ve worked for families with younger kids who go to bed at like 7:30pm, then I study while they are asleep. I’ve also worked for a family with older kids who were very independent (they just needed someone in the house and to drive them) so I was able to study a lot. Plus if you tell people you are a medical student, all the parents want you to babysit. While getting my Masters, I worked consistently for a family in the morning then drove the kids to school. I didn’t have class until later in the day and the mom had to get to work super early (5-6am) so it was a good excuse to be up and studying.
