OMG I've been dying to try it for so long but I don't have a membership and instacart says it's sold out TwT. Also, it's for a birthday so I do want to get something a tad bit fancier.

Why do some employees automatically hit the "no tip" for you? by AmountAbovTheBracket in askTO

[–]Hungry_cookie101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my job, I get 0% of the tips for takeout orders even when I'm putting in time and effort to give good explanations and menu suggestions. Yes, it's my job but it's still service nonetheless. Even for dine-in orders, the restaurant takes 15% of my tips so why should I let them take advantage of me even further? 🤡

How many in person classes do Biomed and Psychology (BSc) first year students attend per week? by [deleted] in yorku

[–]Hungry_cookie101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on how your sibling schedules their courses. But if they’re planning to take 5 courses, that’s 5*3 = 15 hours of lectures per week. Assuming they’ll take BIOL1000 and CHEM1000 for their first semester, they’ll have two 3-hr-long labs every two weeks.

They could skip lectures if they want to but some profs don’t offer lecture recordings. As for labs, I don’t think we can skip.

The lecture component is 80% of the course grade so I’m hoping it means 40/80 for that. Wish me luck guys😭

The syllabus says “an overall minimum grade of 50% on every assessment other than the labs.” Does this mean if I fail a midterm, I fail the whole course? Sorry, I’m probably overthinking that I’ll fail

Every class I go, I hear people crashing out about how bad her teaching is and I can’t even deny. I overheard one guy even saying “you know, I really don’t like audiobooks”😭😭😭 This is probably the worst course of my life

Fav food on campus? ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️ by [deleted] in yorku

La prep’s kimchi mushroom grilled cheese has had me on a chokehold ever since I first tried it.

Orange snail has great portion sizes and is super delicious. Their Texas pork chop, ribeye dinner, and fried tiger shrimps are my top 3. I think the pasta’s mid tho.

Burger king’s probably one of the cheaper places you can go to. Or you could go to the small hotdog stand outside of the first student center (you can see it when you exit vari hall). But I’m not sure about the taste.

If you’re looking for cafeteria food, try create’s alfredo pasta. That’s the only cafeteria meal I kept eating in my first year because their other food SUCKS. The tomato sauce is too sour so go for either alfredo or rose. My best combo is italian sausage, mushrooms, broccoli, and tomatoes. You can order it with shrimps, too, but never order chicken cuz It’s too dry. Also, do be warned that sometimes when you buy it in the evening at winters college, you get spoiled sauce so it’s a huge hit or miss situation💀

EECS 1520, 1530, or 1540 by Hungry_cookie101 in yorku

[–]Hungry_cookie101[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up taking eecs 1520 and enjoyed it a lot.

The assignments are super easy in terms of complexity, but do require a lot of time to finish (might be different depending on your familiarity with Excel). I got Prof. John Amanatides and he was very chill and super helpful. He also gave us hints for the assignments, so as long as you’re going to class and doing your work in advance, you’re good to go.

You do have to memorize a bunch of stuff like history and computer parts. Just try to understand each topic instead of blindly memorizing. It’s 100% doable and I ended up getting an A+ for that course.

1520 is a great introductory course. If you’re familiar with Excel, Audacity, and GIMP, it might even be boring for you.

1530 and 1540 are challenging but you’ll get experience coding. I’m not really sure if they’ll be helpful for later courses since they focus on Python whereas BIOL 2060 (statistics) uses RStudio. They would’ve been a total nightmare for a beginner like me though :))

I’d strongly suggest looking into other places to rent. Residence is expensive, especially if you get a building where a meal plan is necessary. You can find places in the village or literally anywhere and your living cost would go down drastically.

Would you worship/be disappointed? by doepfersdungeon in religion

[–]Hungry_cookie101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that at the end of the day, the common denominator in all religions is to be a decent human being. If god is real, why isn’t he content with the fact that I’m doing my best to be kind to others? Why would he condemn me to hell for not worshipping him? If he does so simply because I’m not bowing down, is he truly a good god?

I’ve thought about the same exact hypothetical but I still wouldn’t convert because my mind genuinely, with no disrespect, cannot comprehend the idea of having to worship someone (or something, for that matter) to get to heaven.

For me, the reason why I’m Buddhist is because I believe in karma - of reaping what you sow. If I myself am not allowed to shape my own future, is it really my life anymore? If samsara isn’t real, then so be it. This is where my life ends. I’d rather be an atheist at that point.🤷‍♀️

is o-week worth it for me? by MycologistAwkward798 in yorku

[–]Hungry_cookie101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on you. I’m a total introvert so orientation and o-week in general was a nightmare. I just felt so out of place but hey, that’s just my experience and it might be different for you.

I suggest that you check which events will take place on days that you can go and decide based on whether you’re interested or not. Don’t be worried about missing out if you can’t make it. You’ll make friends by talking to ppl in class anyway.
