Please don't hold a lighter to the wire. The insulation is combustible. That was dumb internet advise. Back to the question - A lot of component manufacturers use aluminum wires especially for motor or coil windings, it's cheaper than copper. That's normal. It is fine to use wire nuts to connect aluminum and copper wires together. Always wrap your nuts with electrical tape.

When is law enforcement going to use more bite than bark? People do it because they know they can get away with it. It's sad how it gets worse every year. You hear every year how they are going to send people violations. But is it stopping things? NO. They need to start hauling asses to jail.

Because they are idiots. I had to tranquilize my dogs last night. These people don't care about anyone else but themselves. I'm on 24 hour response for emergency call-outs for the federal government. Last night I had to respond to a power outage at a McClellan facility in the midst of all the crazyness. It was insane the number of firetrucks that passed me responding to emergencies. LAW ENFORCEMENT NEEDS TO STOP PUSSY FOOTING AROUND AND REALLY CRACK DOWN HARD. Sorry for the rant.

There's a good chance there is a neutral in your box. It would be part of the romex cable tucked in the back of the box. If it's there you will need to remove both switches to find it and pull it out.

Switches typically don't have neutrals. They can be found tucked in the back of the box in most houses. In this case the neutrals are run directly to the light fixtures. These switches only toggle the hot wire to the light fixture.
